The following are real things that have been said to me since I arrived here in the States from the UK. I thought they were funny and worth posting...it's quite strange the concepts or is that misconceptions some people have about us foreignors

Have you ever had a Mcdonalds cheeseburger?

Have you ever eaten barbecue food before?

Have you ever seen snow before!!?? (England right!!!lol)

Do you have malls in England? I quite enjoyed responding that where I lived (Newcastle) there is the largest shopping mall in Europe ;)

Do you get the Rolling Stones in England?

Do you have New Years Eve in England!!!!!!????

And my personal favourite>>>>>>>

Do you celebrate the 4th July in England!!!!!!!?????

:blink::blink::unsure:

You and I were neighbors over there, Lady! btw... I prefer Eldon Square over Metro Centre anyday :)

When I've talked to my friends/coworkers about living in England...I've been asked this question so many times it's not funny. Add this question to the list:

DO THEY CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS?

oh, and a personal funny fave is 'do they celebrate Thanksgiving?':blink:

Our Second Anniversary

I want to succeed in America where, unlike Britain, they do not regard ambition as being the same as eating babies.

The National Rifle Association says that, "Guns don't kill people, people do," but I think the gun helps, you know? I just think just standing there going, "Bang!" That's not going to kill too many people, is it? You'd have to have a really dodgy heart to have that happen.

There's a huge hole in the whole Flood drama, because anything that could float or swim got away scot-free, and it was the idea to wipe out everything, He didn't say, "I will kill everything, except the floating ones and the swimming ones, who will get out due to a loophole."

Do you celebrate the 4th July in England!!!!!!!?????

I've had several ppl ask me if we celebrate the 4th of July in Finland... When I told them no one guy asked me why not and I asked him if Americans celebrate December 6th (Finnish independence day) in return. He looked very puzzled and asked me why they should... My point exactly. One lady also asked me where in the US Finland was located.

I grew up in South Africa and when I went to visit my best friend in Texas I was asked:

Do you live in a mud hut?

How come you are white? I thought only black people lived in Africa.

Do you have roads?

Do you travel to school by zebra? (I replied "no, by Ostrich")

Do you have television?

I have now lived in the UK for 10 years so I sort of call myself British. Moving to the good old South I am sure I will get some interesting questions. A lot of Americans seem to think the rest of the world lives in the dark ages...it's quite sad an worrying really that some of our kids are gonna be educated with the same people who ask these sorts of questions

Which is why me and my husband are planning on moving far, far away from SC as soon as he's out of the military!!! Though i suppose ignorance is everywhere...

hey i am moving to charleston in 4 weekss...we should meet up sometime...

This is a true event that happened to me when I was at the dentist the day before Thanksgiving...

Receptionist: "Well, have a happy holiday this weekend, I bet you will miss all your family back home"

Me: "Oh, thanks, tho we don't really celebrate much"

Receptionist: "Oh, you don't have Thanksgiving in the UK?"

Pause..shall I, shan't I? Yeh, why not..

Me: "Well, we have Thanksgiving on July 4th, actually"

Waiting for the lightbulb to turn on...

Pause..

Receptionist: "Oh gee, it must be funny roastin' turkey in July"

Pause..

Pause..

I had to smile sweetly and walk out

OMG :D So many of these I've experienced too!!!

Loads of people ask if we have 4th July/Thanksgiving. They were truly shocked when I said 'no'. It's like they don't even know their own history!! I've tried to explain 5th November to them, but they don't get it at all.

Also been asked/been said to me:

1) Is London bigger than Omaha?!?!!!!!

2) Do you have sports teams over there? (Mother-in-law asked that one whilst watching the football day after Thanksgiving)

3) Oh, so you can walk to France then!! (after me saying that from parts of the UK France is only about 20 miles away.

4) You must like it, it's English (refering to an 'English Muffin' which of course does not exist in England)

5) Is London always foggy?!! (Apparantly watching too much Sherlock Holmes....I cant say I really remember London being foggy and I lived there my whole life)

6) Why dont you have guns (they truly believe that having one makes you safer?!)

7) Why do you drive on the left? (Well, why do you drive on the right?!!)

8) Do you have Christmas Trees/ get Easter eggs?

9) Do you know who our President is? (Unfortunately yes. But do you know who our Prime Minister is?)

and my favourite, from the same person who asked if London is bigger than Omaha......

10) What's your King's name?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9) :o:o:blink::hehe::o:blink:

Americans are the smartest people in the world.

They can tell you where the nearest Wal-Mart is, and if it's a 24 hour SOOOOPer Wal-Marts, but most can't even point out England on a map. Keep up the good work Yanks!:thumbs::thumbs:
