Actually I had chicken noodle soup for lunch thank you very much! See, I'm trying to do better.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I don't like baby carrots. They're washed in a chemical solution so they taste funny and have a weird texture. I just buy organic carrots, cut them into sticks, then keep them in the fridge in some water. They also have a lot more flavour this way.

 is THAT what they do to those poor defenseless baby carrots?

HOLY.. I wonder why sometimes they are almost "fuzzy" blech.

Yes, it's a preservative. blech

Ewww I think you just turned me off baby carrots I didn't know that.... I'll buy regular ones next time and get out my peeler!

saw this article in the news today may be of interest http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28576976/from/ET/ just from the standpoint of the fattening'ness and dangers of packaged foods and sugars.

Here is an example of how Atkins counts "net carbs" on foods http://www.atkins.com/Program/FourPhases/W...eFoodsList.aspx

Yes, carrotts can be re-introduced in later phases of the plan, but in the early phases, all higher net carb count veggies are omitted. Some people are more sensitive to vegetable sugars than others, and find they can never eat potatoes or starchy veggies, but most can have them occasionally in moderation once they reach the pre-maintenance and maintenance phases.

We're buying an elliptical trainer so that should help me more, then I am going to end my gym membership because its the only machine I use there.

I think elliptical trainers are amazing, 30 minutes on one equals an hour on a treadmill and its lower impact.

I started using sparkpeople.com today and WOW it's AWESOME!

It's so user friendly and quick! I had been using mydailyplate.com previously, but it just doesn't compare!!

It's made me realize that I'm on the right track with my eating, but I'm totally not eating enough protein! Anyways, I can honestly say that it took me 5-10 minutes to enter my food for the day and it was well worth it.

I joined it too, love it! I like how you can enter what you ate and it calculates the cals and fat grams, really cool.

I'm going to totally try this site out.

I've gained like 20 pounds since I moved to Jersey :(

I've been battling with my weight for almost 10 years now...it's so time to change that.

I'm here in Canada visiting, I will be here for another week. Going to go walking each day and what not. I eat well but don't do enough.

I tried weight watchers a few years back and was very successful with that. Maybe I'll try that again.

Congrats to everyone who is changing how they think, act and feel towards food and exercise!!! :)

Let's Keep the Song Going!!!

This seems like an appropriate place to post this (VBG!)!

Twas the month after Christmas

Twas the month after Christmas,

and all through the house,

Nothing would fit me,

not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled,

the chocolate I'd taste

At the holiday parties

had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales

there arose such a number!

When I walked to the store

(less a walk than a lumber),

I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared;

The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese

And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt

And prepared once again to do battle with dirt...

I said to myself, as I only can,

"You can't spend a winter, disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.

Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished

Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.

I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.

I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore...

But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot:

Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Haha.

I started my new regime today!

Okay, I lied. I just had a craving for some Smarties so went digging through my cupboards and found a couple of little Halloween boxes and am now munching on them.

Krikit...just cause you had some candy doesn't mean you can't start your new regime! :P I'm a firm believer in anything in moderation! As long as you're not allergic to it!

Hey Laura, when you get back to NJ hop on messenger and talk to me. I've been on sparkpeople.com faithfully for awhile now and I can help you with it if you want to! It's the most awesome site.

I applaud everyone's efforts! You guys are doing well. You've already made the first step towards being healthier! :)
