Well, I'm Mariel and my husband is Vernon...talk about unusual names! I hated my name growing up (even though no one picked on me) but now I LOVE having a unique name! Wouldn't change it for the world. My husband feels the same about his. I was also quite chuffed to find out recently that one of the characters in the new US TV show "Invasion" is named Mariel! It's about time!!!

My best advice: unique names are great...just make sure it's easy to pronounce when someone reads it on paper. I legally changed the spelling of mine when I was 12 because no one could read the whacko-spelling they made up!

As for names I like, my favorite one of all is my sister-in-law's name: Nyree. (pronounced NY-ree). Gorgeous. If it weren't in the family already, I'd want it for one of our future children. I also like the names Zora and Arianna.

What a nice distraction this is from filing immigration papers!!

I love that this topic was started as I am 8 1/2 months pregnant with a boy and my husband and I are having a hard time coming up with a different but not ridiculous sounding name...Although in the beginning it was agreed that if we were having a boy that he would be named after my husband because I absolutely love his name, Sadrian, but of course now his answer is different than before  , men, I tell ya...I have a 4 year old girl named Iyana and I absolutely love her name but I'm stuck when it comes to a boys name...Any more suggestions, anyone?... :help: , Jen

My best friends brothers son has a unique name. They named him Oakley, it's different. I worked with a girl back home named Winter. I think the names Summer and Autum are neat too. Sky is pretty for a girl. I have a little boy who lives a few doors down named Blade. I personally like the name Trey for a boy. Payton is also a pretty name for a girl.

That KILLS me! My sister has a sense of humor!!!

I love my unique name and I always have. My parents almost named me Anna *shudders* Everyone tells me my name is beautiful and I know it. =-)

Is your name Onwa? We had a dog named that. Beautiful dog.

No. Its Kia. I knew a dog named that too (Kia). But its a beautiful name.

I prefer Anna.

My daughter is Anna Naomi. Joel and I have talked about names and we've decided we like russian names such as Alexei and Katarina. We'll see though... :)
