McCain campaign defends 'Kill Obama' outburst

Earlier today, Obama remarked on recent outbursts of "Traitor!" "Terrorist!" and "Kill him!" at McCain campaign events. "It's easy to rile up a crowd," Obama said. "Nothing's easier than riling up a crowd by stoking anger and division. But that's not what we need right now in the United States."

In response, McCain senior adviser Nicolle Wallace released this statement, NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports. "Barack Obama's assault on our supporters is insulting and unsurprising ... He fails to understand that people are angry at corrupt practices in Washington and Wall Street."

They don't have much else besides their outbursts. It's clear McCain and his lapdogs have no issues to try and beat Obama on besides trying for personal attacks. The clear sign of a leader is.. avoiding the issues. Well, for McCain at least.

This disillusionment with logical issues, while an economy is sinking, is just what is going to prevent McCain from being President. Even people from his own side are starting to think he's nuts. And hell, as seen already on this thread, so are some of his supporters.

Personal attacks tend not to win over independent voters as it is (they're naturally smarter for not being limited to a single party, so a lot less likely to fall for this #######), and all McCain and Palin have been doing lately is personal attacks upon Obama and every single person he's talked to in his life, and the only people dumb enough to fall for this are those who already are voting Republican. So, he's certainly winning fellow Republicans over quite well! At this rate, it'll just be the most hardcore of Republicans, the most vitriolic Obama haters (probably in the same category as anti-Democrat), or, of course, the racists who wouldn't ever vote for a black man, left.

Hopefully this means more third party votes.

I overheard him having to explain to his dumb supporters in what sounded like some town hall setting (stump speech must've been) that Obama is not a terrorist or socialist. Wonder why he was softening up on his rhetoric while trying to tie Obama to Ayers and the like.

actually the statement from the McCain campaign in the OP was issued prior to McCain defending Obama in a town hall. Just shows the McCain campaign is not very co-ordinated. If the man cannot even organise his own campaign, how could he hope to do anything for the country.

The polls are pretty clear and barring massive GOP vote fraud and disenfranchisement (and there are more than hints they will try), McCain simply can't win. Which makes me wonder if they are trying to incite the crowd for something post-election. It's a sick thought I know, but having seen Republican tactics in the past, I wouldn't put it past them. Karl Rove and a hundred lieutenants of his ilk are the scum of western civilization.

So, McCain supporters chant 'Kill Obama' and that's ok, because they are angry at Washington, and of course Obama represents washington which Obama doesn't understand so suggesting that the McCain campaing are deliberately riling them up is insulting to the folks who chant 'kill Obama'? I don't know how anyone can defend a position that this is this insane, but let's see someone try shall we?

There is never an excuse to display the appalling behaviour the extremists in McCain's campaign portray, and that comment from McCain's senior staff person is totally ludicrous! McCain was on the right track when he tried to stop the lynch mob mentality. The fact that the tried is all in his favour. The fact that he didn't succeed indicates how little respected he is within his own party. With supporters like that, who needs enemies? They are definitely disenfranchising any still undecided voters away from the Republicans.
