What do you know about Malaria?

I was admitted via ambulance to ER on Thursday, and all of my tests came back normal.

While problem-solving both with friends in the medical field and researching symptoms of Tropical diseases, I realized one thing - my heart attack that I believed I had suffered was a seizure. Before leaving for Colombia, I didn't get vaccinations and now I have had 2 seizures since Thursday. I will be consulting with my doctor tomorrow about this.

But, does anyone from VJ know anything about Malaria? I believe I contracted the more deadly form, and I will be getting this checked out as soon as I can speak to my primary care Physician. Let me hear from others who have been along the Equator and in the Amazonas, because that's where I've been without carrying my DEET Mosquito repellant (dumb).

my small sister got it when we went to mexico one year

she had high fever of 105 had convulsions because of the fever....treatment is almost as hard on the person as the illness and it never goes away u can have a relapse later on.............her white blood cells were off the chart........that is all i know about it and prolly wont help u much

Wait a minute. You were admitted to the ER, complaining of a possible heart attack, but the ER personnel could not distinguish that from the symptoms of a seizure? I can't imagine that is possible, as the symptoms are quite distinct. Did you undergo any seizure tests...MRI, CAT scan, blood work?

That's usually the thing with malaria its indefinitive...symptoms may vary...what's the result of your platelet count? do you have fever now? how about stomach pains?

Zero fever, no stomach pains. I get this gassy feeling in my chest. Alka Seltzer helps alleviate this sensation. If I get tired, I just lie down, rest for 1/2 hour, then I get up, and I feel better. Not 100% better, but probably 70% better.

I thought I was having seizures, but I never lost consciousness, never bit my tongue. I just trembled violently for about 3-5 minutes - the chills? 15 minutes later, I could walk around my house with just a weak feeling.

I doubt your seizures were caused by malaria.

Do you still have reoccurances from malaria? Did it go away with proper medication?

Most definitely not something to play with or wait around... If you can't get to a PCP now, I'd go back to the ER. I hope that it's not malaria and that you are going to be okay
