I'm thinking of places that I've been to bigger events at. We had our wedding reception at a place called Johnny O'Hagans...they have a party room in the basement with a bar. As long as the group spends $750 the room is free...includes a bouncer and a bartender.

What I like about the place is you could mix and mingle a bit more. It's also on Clark St. just down from Wrigley so it would be easy to find.

Another good place is Good Bar, which isn't too far away on Halsted and Diversey. My ex roomie had her birthday party there and it was lovely. I'll look into it.

Rock Bottom Brewery and Kincaids are a few others I have in mind...they are right off L stops so it wouldn't be too difficult for out of towners to find.

JG...it sounds like you might have went to Chen's. I have never been there myself (after living just down the street from there!) How would you rate the food and seating?

Btw...the last post I accidently posted under my husband's account. This is ginger!

We've only lived in the area since spring. So I don't really know where anything is... But I am always game for good food and company... Name the place and the time. We will be in Pakistan from mid November to the first of the year, though.

Goose Island Brewery in that Wrigleyville area might be a better choice... I've attended a group gathering there with no set area to hang out in and the staff reacted quite well to our presence. Hence individual food/drink tabs may be possible.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Is this thing still on?

Goose Island sounds like an excellent choice. I'd think the Lincoln Park location wouldn't be as crowded, and would have better parking options.

(1800 North Clybourn). I belong to a film group that's had our annual holiday party there for the last few years. I think arrive and buy may be an excellent option than insisting people commit to time and money, which are becoming rare commodities. We all lead busy lives.

I think another good option if we wanted an "over the top themed joint" is Ed Debevics at 640 N. Wells

or Billy Goat's (made famous from SNL in the '70s..."Cheesburger, Cheesburger") at 430 N. Michigan Ave at Lower Level

Thursday night (Nov. 6th) might be a better option than Friday night (aka Amateur night in Chicago), and those that are traveling in, would have Friday for sightseeing, or a long weekend for whatever.

Anyway...I think it'd be a hoot to get together, laugh, cry, gab, and gripe.

Take it from me, just pick a date, and location, announce it, then see who can make it. You'll never have a day, time, or place that everyone will agree on. One thing I would also suggest, is that if you can find a place that has a seperate room and oft times they'll give it to you for free, then go for it. It can get quite noisy in a regular restaurant, and if you have a large number of people come, you'll want to get up and mingle.

Looks like the get-together got a little cold. I just hope that if it warms up that Goose Island (I do agree with you there... the one on Clybourn is much nicer than the Wrigleyville location anyway) is agreeable to most. Those Hefewizens... mmm...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Nov is cool. Neil is opening a new store in October so lots of overtime in October.

Just beware the Mag mile shopping spree... one store will be enough to bankrupt anyone.

I'm saving now to do some shopping. Coach, LV, Tiffany, Niketown, Apple........here I come. Most will just be window shopping! :crying:

I just LOVE love love VJ meetups! Count me in!

Jackie

(would adore seeing carlawarla and jomo's girl again!)

Me too, Jackie.

And, we are definately going to be there in November. Right now, it's set for the 5th-10th. As of now, it looks like we are staying in the city too.

So, like Carla said....someone from Chicago has to pick a place and a date for us and the rest will hopefully, fall into place.

My only request is that you keep it somewhere we can get to on the EL or walk to.

So who's picking the date and location :D

I agree something by the EL especially if it's downtown/Mag mile. How about one of the pizza places?
