one for sorrow

two for joy

three for a girl

four for a boy

5 for silver

six for gold

seven for a secret never to be told.

the maggpie rhyme my mum taught me. even though i know its stupid and untrue i still say good day mister magpie if i see one on its own.

Now, see, I think this is a good omen for me..............my favorite band, the Counting Crows put this rhyme into one of my favorite songs by them.

If I see a male Cardinal (red one) on a St. Louis Cardinals (baseball) game day, I KNOW they will win.

cool i never knew there was a song with it in i will have to check this out! there is a lot more to this rhyme but i can't remember it. i think the only time i perhaps almost fell for it was when i saw four just after my aunt fell pregnant. she went on to have a boy.

another bad habit i have is not saying thank you when i sneeze and someone returns with bless you :innocent: . its from my old uni house mate of three years who used to tell me off for doing it, because its ment be bad luck. so now i have a bad habit not because im superstitious but because i've trained myself not to get a #@#*#ing :bonk:

I don't either because it's a little creepy, but I don't think it's being superstitious.

I don't put my purse on the floor because I was told it means you will lose your money.

If my right hand itches, it means I'll get money.

If my left hand itches, it means I'll lose money.

If I dream with poop, it means I'll get money. This has happened over and over again.

I know they sound stupid but I can't help it.

Diana

I believe in everything you do except the poop dream. Que chistoso !

I don't really have any, but my husband has quite a few:

You can't pour boiling water down the sink because it upsets the jinns in the basement.

If he dreams about teeth, then someone is going to die.

If my shoes are upside down on the floor, he has to turn them right side up or something bad will happen.

If his left eye twitches something bad is going to happen.

He hates it when I whistle...something about bringing bad luck.

I knock wood. I wish on a fallen lash. I'm sure there are other things like that that I do without really believing, but generally, I'm not superstitious.

I love to hear about superstitions, though. Once when I was explaining the meaning of the word, grief, to a classroom full of Greek seventh-graders, I gave the example of a grandparent dying. As soon as I mentioned someone's grandparent dying, the entire class started spitting down the necks of their shirts and knocking on their desktops. It was like they had all practiced it. I couldn't help but laugh, not at their superstition, but at the immediate and universal response.

Greek people also spit on babies to ward off the evil eye. When someone spits on your baby it is a compliment because they are saying that your baby is so beautiful the gods will be jealous. They are protecting your baby from the jealousy of the gods. They don't actually produce spit, they just make a spitting sound with their lips in the direction of the baby's face.

I'll tell you guys something strange...

Oct 28, Justin's first trip to Argentina (when we met) we were at a restaurant. He turns and says "I love you!". As I'm staring at him thinking "WHAT??", a waiter opens a champagne bottle all the way on the other side of the room, and the cork lands on my lap (big omen that you will get married soon)

We were married 1 year later

Other supersticions-

I don't leave my purse on the floor

I knock on wood

I do the salt thing

And whenever I'm expecting something, I don't tell people or think about it to much in fear of Jinxing it

Saludos,

Caro
