If you see a young arab guy and an older american woman and they are petitioning for a visa, automatic response by many is Greencard! If you see an older American woman and a younger American guy, most people think "She has to have money!" or something else.

This type of talk is just NOT what VJ is about. Everyone has a right to their opinions but to start picking out people or attacking other relationships is inappropriate and rude. I respect that everyone can have their opinion but not at the expense of another VJ member. Please do not continue this in this thread or others. Love is a wonderful thing that is unique to every relationship. It is wrong to make assumptions or opinions on other peoples relationships like this. Less trollishly, it is often the elephant in the room. There's a reason an age gap, or a language difference, or a cultural difference, or little evidence of relationship, is often a red flag. That doesn't mean that any relationship that has those characteristics is invalid, but it does mean that there are fraudsters out there. (How many of the relationships break up once they're here?)

And that's what families and friends -- I'm not talking about ####### drive-bys -- are worried about. They can't see into your relationship, and they don't know what it's like.

as well? It's really getting old. Let's say it's true, so what. Isn't it as much my right to marry a shallow man from another country as it is to marry one here? Why is it ok to marry for money or looks but not citizenship if both parties are ok with it? Let me clarify though, that is not the case for my relationship but if it was so da #### what.

My SO actually heard it coming from her mom "He probably wants a greencard and is using you for it".. that was until I explained and show her mom it's actually better in a lot of ways over here than there lol... Well, maybe not always but at least in my case it is.. I am pretty well settled over here in the Netherlands and will give up a sh*tload in order to be able to be with my future wifey.. after that we didn't hear it ever again that I might have been using her lol

Oh well, it is understandable in a way, they try to protect people coz what if they are truely in love but the foreign fiance is actually only using the USC? Then it is very sad if they all the sudden break up or something, the USC might be heartbroken and some people just try to protect them from that
