Marriage Certificate -- ok for photocopy?

When we send in our marriage certificate, is it fine to send a black& white (or color) photocopy of the certified document, or do we need to send in the actual certified copy we received from the state?

We actually got few signed copies with an original stamp from our county public records office.. we paid $5 for each and send one of this original copy with AOS... just in case

My understanding is that it is okay, but we also preferred to send an original, just in case. It only cost $10 and we got two copies - one for ourselves and one for the I-485. We sent photocopies of everything else though (passport, visa, I-94, birth certificate...)

We sent in a certified copy too,taking another certified copy to the interview.

Unless specifically asked for the USCIS accepts photocopies of the required documents...

When in doubt the read the instructions, because it may even answer your question specifically.

Instructions to Form I-485

Copies. Unless specifically required that an original document be filed with an application or petition, an ordinary legible photocopy may be submitted. Original documents submitted when not required will remain a part of the record, even if the submission was not required.

A photocopy is all that is required. If throwing away $5 or $10 makes you feel better then no harm. Just bring a certified copy to your interview.
