My wife is suffering from a acne crisis, any advice would help!

We're dealing with an issue here, as all women are conscientious about their appearence, my wife is having more than an adjustment issue, she is having a hard time adjusting to this new acne appearence.

I feel really bad for her, and I wish that there was something that I could do. I suffered from severe acne as a teenager, but I grew out of it. Her facial skin appearence was fine when she was in the philippines, but as soon as she got here in Florida, pimples started showing up slowly and increasing over time and now it has gotten severe to the point where she doesn't want to go out in the public and I really feel bad for her. I've tried almost everything from astringents to moisturizers to proactive, and none of them are working. We've even tried internal medicines and nothing appears to work. I've purchased a product called Maxipill from ebay that I'm assuming most filipinas use, has anyone out there experienced the same problem or know someone that has experienced this, any solution, advice or suggestion would be useful, Thanks!

Unfortunately, our skin adjusts to the climates that are our natural environments. It takes a while to adjust to new.

I started breaking out prior to the wedding....due to stress. I've actually been using that Proactive. It does work great. A bit costly....but I've seriously tried everything else...and it works. For a 2 month supply..it was about $70.00

Tell her to keep her chin up....and appearance isn't everything. Just make sure you stand by her....and tell her she is still beautiful to you...no matter if she says "no I'm not" or "you're just saying that"....we as women still like to hear it.

My brother was here recently, and he suffers adult acne and rosacea. We stumbled upon a beauty regime called ZENMED (google it for the website). He is back in the UK now but I had to send him more as he says it really works. Its about $70 for a month's worth but he says its worth every penny. Might be worth a look ?

See a dermatologist rather than speculate................it could be stress related, adjusting to a new life/culture is not easy.

Also, did she use that skin bleaching ####### when she was in the Philippines and not using it here?

it's probably from combination of factors, environment/hormones/stress etc.. Has she seen a dermatologist? Has she tried oral antibiotics? There is a variety of other topical things she can try...but alot of these need prescription..also she should get a proper medical check up..just to rule out any underlying medical problems that might be causing it...eg get her thyroid hormones checked..and some other stuff.Best is to go to good dermatologist first...if not done so already..

ps also try dietary changes, drink lots more fresh juices...be wary of these herbal or over the counter stuff...it may work for some but cause problems for others, plus alot of these herbal remedies may have unknown longterm side effects..

My 20-year-old daughter, who had beautiful skin throughout her teenage years, recently started getting bad acne and saw a dermatologist.

He diagnosed her with acne boils and prescribed Tetracycline for a couple of months. Her skin has improved significantly. You should probably take your wife to see a Dermatologist and see if they can find something to help her out. A woman with bad skin always feels self conscious, so it will be worth the time and effort.

Best wishs.

Ditto that! Stop the topical treatments. They are probably doing more harm than good, especially if you are using multiple products as experiments.

My advice is to just try some diet changes, with lots of fruits and juices, and lots of water. If that doesn't seem to do much in 3/4 weeks, see a dermatologist for advice.

Dairy products can be your skins worst enemy.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I think it's something in the water, I started having a terrible acne since I've been here. Maybe it's a conspiracy to make us spend money on acne products.

I'd go see a dermatologist.

It's quite possible it's a change in her diet. Studies have shown that other cultures who eat lots of fish, grains, and fruits and vegetables tend to develop conditions like acne when they adopt a more Westernized diet (high fat, high salt, milk).

(The Clear Skin Diet is a good, science-y look at all the possible reasons for bad skin, if anyone is interested).

I would suggest looking at the changes in her diet. If she is no longer eating something she typically did, or is eating something she never was before, it can certainly contribute. A blood screening for deficiencies in minerals could also be beneficial as it could point out what she's missing. My skin became disgusting in September, and it took until December for me to realize I have a zinc deficiency and that's how my body chooses to show it.

Or it could be stress, or hard water. Unfortunately the options are endless!
