Hello everyone,

Well, today I was offered a job with a good company and with amazing benefits:

NON-contributory healthcare (Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO - fully comprehensive) for myself and hubby

NON-contributory comprehensive dental and vision plan

6 weeks paid vacation a year plus 4 "summer days" !!!

free lunch every day

free parking

NON-contributory pension scheme (10%)!!

flexi-working after 3 months

free day care for kiddies (don't need it now but you never know !)

The people were really nice and Im sure the job would be interesting, however, I have also been offered another role with a company who has good benefits but not nearly as good as one above has. The thing is, I like the people more at this second job.

Would you take the first job with the great benefits and think that once you get to know everyone it will all be great, or would you take the second job because the people appeared more your "kind of people"? Im in a quandry !! Pls help !

I agree with Jenn. You just have to like the people at your job enough... especially when the benefits are so fantastic. What about the work? Do you think you would enjoy the position at one or the other more? Would it help you reach your goals? What other things can you use to weigh the two positions?

IMO, it doesn't matter who you like *more*. Do you like the people at the first job well enough? Those are some outstanding benefits.

Good point Jenn :)

Congrats Britty!

The people at the one with great benefits are really nice, but the people at the other job just clicked a little better. Both positions are essentially the same. The second one may have the edge in terms of career progression but there is very little difference. Both are international event planning but just within different industries. The second is closer but only by about a 10 minute drive and the second is slightly higher in salary. The first one's benefits outweigh that additional salary however.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I think I am leaning towards the one with better benefits. The fact that I would be allowed to go back to the UK for up to 3 weeks at one time is very desirable. I will sleep on it but I think the benefits are too good to pass up. :)

People come & go. I would go for the benefits, personally.

I agree with this statement!

It's rare to see people stay with one company until retirement anymore. Most employees, unless they are in high-level management positions, are constantly looking for better work with better pay and benefits. So it's almost expected that your coworkers will change at some point.

I'd go with the job that has the outstanding benefits, since those are probably less likely to change in the foreseeable future, as opposed to coworkers leaving the job for a better one. After all, the people who do that aren't letting their friendships at their old job get in the way of attaining greater pay and benefits, are they? Why should you?

Which has the best opportunities for further advancement in the next 2-5 years?

Do you know the company financial status, growth potential, stability, reputation in the industry?

Who is the supervisor at each company and how do you get along with them?

What is their talent management plan in regards to keeping institutional knowledge, training, succession, lay off planning, etc.?

Are the commutes the same?

I also think the people don't matter as much. Far better to have competent, hard working, dependable co-workers than people you view as friends. I try hard to separate family and work life. Some of the worst back stabbers are people you thought were on your side, but had their own motives.

The best thing to do is do an analysis on many different aspects of each position and make a plus and minus list and compare the two.

Do you know the turnaround rate of employees in either of these places?

I would personally stick with benefits..

Once you start working .. you make friends.. find new connections.. .. Knowing when you come home and dont have to worry of the extras... is a big plus...

Good luck and Congrats..

Do you know these people outside of your job interview? People are fake during job interviews...then the honeymoon wears off...hopefully when it does you'll still have amazing benefits. I agree with StevenLaura...people come and go - benefits last forever :)

congrats and good luck.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
