My sister lost her 25yr old son to suicide 3 weeks ago and wants to design herself a tattoo in his memory

She has a picture of what she wants with a few changes

If there is anyone who thinks they can help please email on lynnyellis@bigpond and I will forward the picture and her ideas

A tribute tattoo is a very good idea for those that like tattoos. But I would suggest letting a little more time pass before she gets one. Right now the pain she is going through is likely clouding her thoughts.

That being said a simple photo-realistic face of her son with some special motto that they shared would be nice. This sort of thing is a very personal decision and only she knows what is right for her.

Fina a decent and talented tattooist and I'm sure they could design a tasteful portrait tattoo from a photo.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'd call around to different tattoo artists first and see how much experience they have and what they specialize in. A good artist will work and find a design your sister likes. I love watching LA Ink and have seen the most amazing tattoos. My brother had an awesome tattoo of his daughter when she died that is identical to her hospital pic. Maybe some things that your nephew was interested in, a picture, sports, etc could be Incorporated into something. I have a friend that got a tattoo about 3 years ago when her son died. She had took a handful of pictures to a tattoo artist here and told him she wasn't sure about a design and to design something for her. What he came up with I thought was cool. He took a little something from each picture and make puzzle pieces. I think there's about 12 puzzle pieces, but the pieces are not put together. Her interpretation of the tattoo is that her life will never be "put together" now that her son is not here with her. Maybe I can talk her into sending me a pic so I can send to you.

I'm sorry for the loss of your nephew. (F) I remember how heartbroken I was when my niece died. Will you be getting a tattoo too?

Excellent advice. I agree with Gary.

May God comfort you.

So sorry for your loss.. such a tragedy..

But I agree with the others that it is the job and role of the tattoo artist to help design a tattoo.. they will want input into the process, because after all it is their name being recognized with the piece.. so they will want to make sure it's something they are comfortable drawing, and will look good on one's body in 20-40 years etc. A great tattoo artist can really give some great ideas as to what will look good in ink..

If the tattoo artist makes your sister in anyway uncomfortable, or she doesn't agree with his/her design, no loss, just go onto the next artist. It may take some work to find the right fit but it is her body, her memorial and it is forever.. it's well worth doing some research and going to shops to see the work of the artist as well..

A friend of mine did just this for her Dad. It was just a small butterfly. She has never regretted that decision.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I am always interested in new tats. I am now thinking of a portrait of my Father. He died when I was nine and there hasn't been a day in the past 49 years that I haven't thought about him.
