filing but have lost 2 yr green card...can i travel?

Ok question. I lost my green card but instead of paying $600 for a new one I want to just use that $600 to file my removal of conditions (why waste money I don't have?)

 

I need to travel back to the UK next month though and I know I won't have my new green card in time. Is there anything I can do, without having to spend ridiculous amounts of money?

 

I am eligible as of next week to file for removal of conditions and so I plan to do that...

The biggest issue is that in ROC you need to include copy of your 2 year green card.   I would cancel that trip if I were you.

How do you plan on getting back into the US if you don't have the one thing to show that you are a resident here?

The biggest issue is that in ROC you need to include copy of your 2 year green card. ;)

 

I would cancel that trip if I were you.

I will try this, just wanted to see if anyone had any luck with it. I'd hate for them to say well I have to spend another $600 for a new one which would probably not arrive before my renewed one anyway. Just so pointless and a waste of money

Won't work. Stamping the I-551 on the passport requires handing over the expired card, which is lost. Besides, they do not stamp the I-551 on the passport until the extension letter is expiring.

They won't let you board the plane? 

 

Edit. Yep. Just read it. They won't allow you to go back and you'll have to file for replacement card while abroad. 

 

Honestly I'd just cancel :P

Surely, people have lost their green card abroad before no? And if they did, were they just stuck and not allowed to return to the US?

Not sure how long a replacement takes, but if you think you'll be getting the 10 year from ROC anytime soon you should be checking the timelines.  18+ months.  You'll likely complete N400 before you ever see your 10 year card

Look at my edited lost. 

 

They won't let you back and you'll have to file and wait for your replacement card while abroad. That's it.

Really? 18 months?! So... how long does it take for a replacement card? I heard its around the same?
