Apostille/Authentication

Still waiting for a i-130 approval but im looking at "Supporting Documents" with NVC for the future.

i already have apostilles, translations, and certifications in some documents (marriage/birth) however i still need to get 4 police certificates.

Since the US is a country belonging in the Hague Convention, do i need to obtain an apostille only OR/AND authentication?

For example i know since im in Colombia now, when i'll obtain a Police Certificate from here i need to obtain an apostille, then translate it and have the translation certified/authenticated (however u name it)

What about from an English Speaking country? ex: New Zealand? Just obtain an apostille for it?

Last but not least : When would you recommend starting to obtaining Police Certificates? I'm 4 months in since received receipt from USCIS. I wouldn't want to be running like crazy when the time comes but i also don't want to spend money twice on Police Certificates and all that comes along since they expire after a year, but yet, i've got 4 countries!!

Unless you were requested to have apostilles and certifications, they aren't necessary.  They verify things behind the scenes to some degree and then check the originals at the interview. 

 

The police clearances are good for six months, but the date you receive your interview letter should be three months in advance.  That's the best time to start.  You can check the process in the meantime.  My husband's country (Honduras) had a tricky police clearance in that the courthouse gives a police clearance for employment but the one needed for the visa was from another agency.  Find out as much as you can from each country what all is needed.  Rather than travel, we got an attorney to procure it for $100.

Seconding that unless specifically requested to do so, no Apostille is necessary as any part of the spouse visa process.

Even if we are talking about the Marriage Certificate, because I have the original one from my country: Cuba, but no Apostille...

My case is also in Colombia, if you ask for a translation and, when you being asked if is for using it outside of Colombia, they are going  to say that needs to be legalized (Apostille) But it's because they'll charge you more obviously, which is their goal, to get legalized and apostille online and charge more in the service.

Try to translate it for yourself if you have enough knowledge of English language, that´s why I´m currently doing , and having prepared them for NVC stage!

Re-Reading again what @pushbrk says is true, at NVC website is never mentioned apostille at any stage! After re-reading again thousands of times seems to be like this!

My question is that if in the case of Cuba and the "very special relationship" that they have with U.S if is not required an Apostille, because Cuba issuing the document REQUIRES apostille for using it abroad!

This is all a headache haha and we got our marriage certificate apostilled and translated since we got married in mexico(they said u needed it)

i just have a not so good lawyer to be honest, but nothing we can do, she's paid and im here in colombia and husband on a big ship for deployment!

So you dont have any documents apostilled as per now? also my birth certificate is apostilled(from italy)

Yes i know about Honduras, lived in Roatan for a year, but luckily before the age of 16 so i dont need a PC, because i remember my parents running around like crazy for documents there!

Well, I´m going to get, just in case, and to be sure that there will be no problem  at the time of the interview.
In the case of Birth Certification, that is already ready but without apostille because it does not carry it.
The marriage certificate as the primary proof of the union, if I am going to apostille and the police and criminal records that are both issued in a single document, in Cuba it is mandatory to apostille, so it is mandatory.

Honduras probably isn't one scintilla more efficient than when you lived there.  Nothing can be done online. 

 

The good news is the apostille is superfluous, but doesn't hurt anything.  Just don't bother with the extra step on any future documents when you have the choice.

i bet, i find things complicated in Colombia too! I lived in 7 countries and gosh Colombia is so far the most complicated one and it pisses me off lol but oh well, we'll all be together with our spouse at the end

And you seem like u know stuff, would u recommend to look at processing times in VJ or USCIS??
