they get an appraisal from a licensed appraiser - per car.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi,

You mentioned cars, so there is more than one. He can not use one car as an asset for the I-864. He can use the other cars as assets on the I-864. So, one car must be excluded.

The cars listed on the I-864 must be in working conditions. Cars that are dead cannot be used. The current registrations are perfect to prove that are in working conditions.

You can use Kelley Blue Book values. You can only use the equity in the cars. You must subtract out any loans on the cars (i.e., KBB value is $4000 and loan is $3000, then only $1000 can be used as an asset).

I'm not sure Cars qualify as assets - especially if they are his everyday drive to work etc. cars? Those are not typically items that can be sold to provide financial support since they are needed in everyday operations and to get to work to provide the income.

A person only needs one car to get to work. That is why one car can not be used for the I-864.

His 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. cars can be used as assets on the I-864.

He would need to have the cars appraised and if he has a lien on them then the appraisal value minus the lien.

Unless he owns them 100% then it's just the appraised value.

but again, like aaron mentioned, they also need to be registered to him.

Using assets, even real estate, to substitute for income, is an uphill battle and may easily be disallowed by the NVC (or USCIS if submitting to that agency for Adjustment).

This in of itself is unlikely to meet the expedite criteria, you would have to show how this is a hardship to the point that it's necessary that your spouse be here sooner.

I'm not saying don't make the request, there is nothing stopping you from doing so. Just don't be surprised if your request is denied.
