How should one respond to the question, "Why do you plan to have a wedding in the United States and not your home country?" What are some possible answers.

1.Faster to obtain visa than spouse visa

2. Requirement for K-1 visa

Are these good responses or no?

Why do you apply for K1 visa instead of IR1/CR1 visa in the first place?

Because I'm engaged and not married.....and based on all the post its takes a longer time to get your spouse in the states with the CR1 visa verses the K-1 visa

You don't have a choice. You are following the immigration law and must marry 90 days after arriving in US. They won't ask that. They may ask why did you go the engage route instead of the married route.

Never ever say "because I wanted them to meet my family first". That screams you not know if you are sure. So stay away from that answer.

Most definitely! Even if they did ask that question "why did you go the engage route instead of the married route?" it would be the same response that it doesn't take as long as the married route

I would say - "K-1 visa gives us 90 days for consideration after the arrival in the US. I would like to live together with my fiance under the same roof and to figure out what kind of person he is on his own territory. That's why I am only planning to marry in the US after living together a couple of months."

You have already submitted the intent to marry within 90 days letter during the I-129F petition.

So you are aware that K1 visa is not for "get know your fiance/fiancee better, wait and see how it goes"

That's not true. K-1 visa IS for getting to know your fiance/e better and for getting married withing 90 days, But - you are not obliged to marry your petitioner. In the letter of intent you only state your intention, not your obligation. Yes, you are supposed to have that intention as the condition of getting that visa, but you are also free not to marry. When you arrive in the US and go through the passport control, you are warned by the immigration officer, that, if you don't marry your petitioner, you must leave the country within 90 days. Nobody tells you: "You MUST get married, otherwise you are breaking the immigration law".

The consul did ask me that question and my answer was " because we wanted to have the wedding in a beautiful place, on a beach in Hawaii". This is just my case though

In the letter of intent you only state your intention, not your obligation. Yes, you are supposed to have that intention as the condition of getting that visa, but you are also free not to marry. The K-1 is not getting to know your finance better! If you want to get to know each other better then go and visit each others countries and spend more time together NOT fill out a K-1 visa.

The K-1 visa is not for getting to know your fiancé. If you do not know your fiancé, or are unsure whether or not to get married, you would never receive the visa. The visa is given with the intent that the beneficiary will conclude a valid marriage in the US within 90 days. It is not given for you to "figure out" if you want to get married.

This response could likely result in denial of the K-1 visa. It proves you do not have a bonafide enough relationship, if you are having doubts about marriage.

They asked me why we are moving to the US and not my husband to the UK. (Despite the stupid UK immigration law which says we have had to live together for 2 years first.. how, if they don't grant a visa first?), I said that moving him to the UK was our original plan but due to changing circumstances with our families and other factors, it was best that I was the one who made the move and my husband wanted to be close to his family as they are older, and my family are young and independent and it would be easier on them, etc.
