N-400 April 2016 Filers

My friend sent her application on 4/25 and has already got interview scheduled on 8/24. (NYC)

I am pretty nervous about my case since I didnt hear anything after FP on 5/18.

Then I googled "N-400 IOE case delayed" and found out this:

People who has filed the new N-400 application form get a receipt-number starting with IOE. (USCIS released the new on on 4/13)

The field offices have been instructed to prioritize NBC applications before scheduling IOE ones.

So this may be the reason why IOE cases dont move forward.

We are all on the same boat, so dont worry and be patient

I don't believe that that is true. I sent my application on 4/18. I live in NYC and have a NBC case number. I have been waiting since 5/19 with no updates. I'm still hoping to get my citizenship before October as that is the deadline for registering to vote in NY. But that hope dwindles with each passing day.

I have no idea why some applicant was given NBC and why some got IOE. mine starts with IOE and it sucks to see no update

Finally. Today I got a text saying my case had been updated. When I logged into my USCIS account I didn't see any new notice. So I went to the Case Status page on USCIS.gov. That's where I saw my case has been updated with this message:

On July 26, 2016, we scheduled an interview for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization , Receipt Number IOExxxxxxxx. We will mail you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice.

Not sure why my text message didn't have that information. But I'm happy that there's finally movement on my case. Now I just need to wait and see what date has been scheduled for my interview. Oh, and maybe I should study!!!

Finally, done with my interview.

Short story: my interview was at 8:30. I arrived to USCIS office at 8:00. the waiting room was packed with people. waited for 45 mins then they called my name. the officer took my to his office and placed me under oath. then he asked me the civics questions and got the first 6 questions right. made me read: When is Columbus day? and had me write: Columbus is in November. then he went through my applications. verified my informations. he asked me about the trips i had since i became a resident. told him only 4 trips which are two of them after i filled the application. he only asked for the dates and wrote them down in my application. he asked me about my job, taxes, and selective services. at the end, he asked me some of the question of the n-400 "not all of them" then he said congratz you you have passed and told me to expect the oath letter next month.

it was a weird experience coz i was so nervous about it and the officer was too cold and not in the mood for jokes. but it went very smooth. I brought all my docs " taxes, bank statements, selective services registration letter, ...etc" but he didn't ask for any of them. he just checked my GC, Passport, and DL.

Such a relief to get it done. Now I'm waiting for the oath letter. Hope it won't take that much in Chicago.

I got the text and email today. My interview has been scheduled. . Now to get the letter in the mail. Hope you guys hear something soon.

I had my interview last week in Boston.

I arrived essentially exactly on time (maybe a few minutes early?). Some of the people there didn't have interviews for a couple of hours though, so that seemed pretty keen. Also, it says not to come more than 30 mins early. The waiting room was pretty much empty though - there were about 15-20 people waiting. One poor guy had not realized his green card had expired until AFTER he'd made an offer on a house. It sounded like it was going to be a bit painful!

I had to wait about 15 mins to be called, and I was the 8th person called back. They asked a couple of people to leave their spouse/support person in the waiting room.

The interview took about 40 minutes, a lot of which was going through the questions about whether I was a communist or a member of any military or had killed anyone or trafficked any people. They were inordinately interested in my speeding ticket (no point, no court appearance, just a fine) from over 10 years ago. That's been the only thing close to a brush with the law I've had!

She asked me:

Which group of people were bought to American as slaves?

Which is the highest court in the land?

Who is the Vice President?

How many amendments to the constitution are there?

Why did the colonist fight the British?

She also refused to look at all my tax returns I'd printed out, and didn't need to see my marriage certificate original (that I'd hunted high and low for!!). She did look at it when I asked her too, but didn't want the tax returns at all. She did ask for birth certificates for both of my (American) children. She also looked through all my old passports and noted all my visas and dates of entry/exit. So glad I kept them all!

At the end she gave me the paper that said I had passed, and to wait a couple of weeks for the letter with the oath ceremony. So close now!!
