Both families HAVE suffered, and will continue to suffer. I feel bad for the Browns' loss of their son. No matter who was at fault, his parents probably loved him unequivocally and without reservation. A family is torn, and that plain sucks.
OTOH, Darren Wilson acted in the line of duty, or at least I am able to draw that conclusion due to the grand jury decision. Killing a person is never an easy thing to live with, and it will haunt him for the rest of his life. He probably lies awake at night, replaying the situation over and over, wishing it had ended differently.
Unfortunately there will probably be more stupidity by folks who don't have any stake in the game other than to run amok and cause more mayhem. But both families HAVE suffered and both will CONTINUE to suffer for a while longer. May peace be upon both sides.

To the OP, the motivations are as varied as the people who find spouses/lovers in other countries. Yes, this gets asked all the time on VJ, there are probably hundreds of threads on the topic; some in the Philippine forum, if you care to search for them. Speaking for myself, I wasn't interested in a relationship when I met my wife. I was going thru a divorce, and the thought of getting serious with women was the farthest thing from my mind. But after meeting this one, and talking to her several times, I sensed an honesty in her that I found enticing and refreshing. Took us several months to decide to be together, as she had just been cheated on a few months before I met her, but eventually we worked things out.
To add to the fray, there is a pheromonic attraction to this one that I never had before. Kinda scoffed at the "chemical attraction" stuff I read about, but now I am a believer.
Foreign women are no better nor any worse than American women. Looks aside (darker or lighter skin, facial structure, etc,), all women are bat shite crazy at some point or another, and one must simply be willing to put up with that to remain married for long. And in all fairness, men can be total douches, and far too few of them give women the faithfulness and monogaminity that most women seem to desire.

Because I am against this temporary protection from deportation, a lot of Filipinos said that we legals are being selfish and egocentric. I am so pissed off because we are the ones who went about it the lawful way, and yet we are the bad people? Suddenly, the law-breaking illegals are the victims? Legals/US Citizens pay for the benefits the illegals enjoy but do not deserve, yet we are the evil ones. They all cry that they are poor and starving. I get that, but EVERYONE has a sad story to tell. Just because someone is poor, that doesn't mean that what is wrong and unlawful can be considered right. They can keep calling me unfaithful to my country. I don't care. All I know is that it is the LAW and that I am not taking whats not mine.

Gonna go out on a limb here and guess.... probably because a J1 visa is not for spouses nor fiances, but education or work? Probably. Try changing J-1 to K-1 and see if the option appears.

I started this with the best interests of the forum in mind. Otherwise there will be 300 different threads discussing the same thing. Now we just have a handful. I think NB started with the "Official" threads a while back, I just copied him. I think you should report him.

Agreed. My husband and I are most likely about to get an interview for our removal of conditions, and I will most likely have to take a leave of absence from my PhD, which I have been commuting to so we don't go into debt. And the government sits there saying that everything must be done to keep families together, and to help students who are high achievers struggling for a better life.
I guess that doesn't apply to my family, and my education.

For over ten years, the official immigration website showed a local office address in Fairbanks at the Airport when it did not exist. Desperate people went to the airport from bush Alaska by expensive airfare, just hoping to meet a live person to help them. We drove 40 miles. There is no office there, it has been closed for over ten years and the room immigration lists at the airport does not exist. The airport manager decided their policy would be to send people to the customs office on the other side of the airport.
So for over ten years people like us went looking for a nonexistent room, gave up and went to the manager, were sent to customs, who informed us they had nothing to do with immigration and were sick of people asking them about it. You have to ring a buzzer. They raise a metal door. Then they tell every one of us the same thing. How could this go on for over ten years?
So these people, people like us, end up staying overnight in hotels and trying to meet with their congressional representatives just to get a phone number for a person. We have done four 900 mile round trips to Anchorage for fingerprints alone. Because two of those were trips in vain because their own equipment and personnel could not take prints the FBI would accept. Yet, they won't allow the FBI to take the prints.
My wife couldn't get a social security card for two years because this office was so incredibly incompetent. Oh yes, and a trip to the USA cancelled and re-scheduled. I had to come here without her.
After those idiots took her fingerprints wrong TWICE, there was no apology, no acknowledgement how all that travel with two kids was an imposition. This ####### was patronizing instead - how glad we should be to travel on such a pleasant day. Oh, like you mean a day when we could be enjoying ourselves on our own front porch instead of having to drive over seven hours, stay overnight, and drive back again. Oh boy!
