May I remind you that a congressional inquiry is just that...an inquiry. Their liaisons can get the latest status of your case. They cannot force USCIS to make a decision.
IMHO, you should be more patient during this process. You're not the first person who has waited ~ 6 months for an approved petition.

Your feeling helpless and wanting to work is completely normal. Nobody wants to feel useless.
You can look for jobs and see what is available. However, you cannot work without your EAD or green card. It is illegal. Last thing you want to do is violate the rules and conditions set forth by USCIS.
For the time being, waiting is part of the game. It is a necessary evil during this process.
Another way to view this...consider this your extended vacation. Once you are legally working, you will start thinking and planning your next vacation. Take full advantage of this time.

Eating balut, like most delicacies, is an acquired taste.
I tried balut for the first time about 10 years ago. Before then, I had heard horror stories on how disgusting it was. But when I tried it, it wasn't as bad as people were saying. To me, it tasted like a cross between chicken and egg. I tried it at night...so I didn't examine every little thing. But I just tried it for what it was. I think I ate 5 or 6 that very night.
I do agree, though, that balut should be eaten while it's hot. Balut is high in cholesterol. Eating cold fat is no fun. Balut does taste better when drinking alcohol. And no, it's not because eating balut requires a lowered inhibition. It seems like the alcohol balances the richness of the balut (or any polutan like sisig, liempo, dinakdakan, etc).
Most of the stigma surrounding balut is already established even before one tries eating it. I do encourage everyone to try it...at least once. I did, and have no regrets.

No, there are no additional fees for IR-1/CR-1 visas after arriving in U.S. You should receive a temporary I-551 stamp in your passport upon arrival. This will serve a proof of your permanent residence. It is valid for 1 year. You should receive your actual green card in the mail within a few weeks.

Some comments you made are very degrading and humiliating. Other comments just contradict themselves.
I believe much of the problems you are experiencing are the same problems YOU created.
Do you really believe this? Even though she may marry you in the near future, you must remember that she'll always have ties to her parents. She probably holds their advice and opinions with very high esteem and respect. That doesn't mean that her parents "control" her, and neither should you. I'm hoping you would want Gretchen to be a successful, independent woman who is capable of making her own intelligent decisions.
I highly doubt both of these claims.
In general, women don't appreciate being treated like #######. They don't like to have their minds made for them. Instead, they prefer to be treated with love, respect and admiration. Putting these qualities into practice helps improves relationships.
