I have to agree. Have been in the trucking industry for 25 years. It cost me one marriage and untold missed life events. Birthdays , weddings and more. Know what your getting into. I don't recommend it for a young couple starting out.

Call the consulate first to see if they will even entertain the idea of a co-sponsor. Then look into the guidelines to see if your brother qualifies. If he is in the military, its 100% of the US poverty level, if he is not, it's 125% of the US poverty level.

Either way works, however in the case of an adjustment of status will need to be prepared to answer questions as to INTENT upon entry to the USA, if the interviewing officer feels that the INTENT when entering the USA WAS to Immigrate, they can just as well deny the adjustment of status.
Also be aware, sometimes at the POE, if the officer feels there is a possible immigrations intent, they can take the person aside and ask a few more questions, sometimes making the visitor sign a form stating there is NO immigrations intent, which can and does get used to deny an adjustment of status.
Best thing if contemplating immigrations, is for US Citizen to file an I-130 for an IR-5 IMMIGRANT visa and do it the correct way.

The letter will not be enough for an expedite, if that is your intention.
I agree with the others; do not send it by itself, it is unlikely to "meet up" with your petition. But if you get an RFE or whenever you send in the next round of paperwork, send it with, if nothing else, it'll go towards bonafides.

I don't carry my GC because the driver's license I carry requires me to show proof of permanent residency before they will issue it. My proof is my GC. My DL is proof that I have a GC. No way am I taking the chance of losing it.

I would venture to say a lot of people, states have driver services facility for 'duplicate license' just for that very reason.!
