We married at UPS store, no witnesses needed, only notorized by a store employee. But your state may vary. We filed with initial secondary evidence of a few pics of us. After you file, you will be able to upload further evidence via your USCIS account. We have been sporadically uploading what we can, such as pics from marriage party with family, comingling stuff, whatever we can, since filing. But honestly, it can be limited what you have. USCIS understand that you're filing after being here for barely any time, it isn't expected that you will have much. As @TBoneTX said, just file ASAP, worry about evidence later. Work on getting state ID/driving license next, although you may not be able to do this before getting your EAD. Some of us, including myself, have had trouble getting things before EAD.

K1 Visa Lagos - Passport expiring
smilingstone replied to Eric Perales's topic in Africa: Sub-Saharan
If you submit the DS-160, the passport number will be locked in. You can't schedule the interview before paying the fee. You can just update it at interview, bringing both new and old passports. -
Estimate time
smilingstone replied to OlamAfruz's topic in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports
Yeah, everyone says to ignore the estimate. Biometrics come quick, EAD can be quick too, but then you are left hanging. Really no saying how long it will take. You'll probably experience the ETA go up too. Mine went from 18 to 32. It may also check off the interview after biometrics, implying it isn't needed, but again, people advise to ignore this as its already been confirmed that all marriage based applications will require interview. -
Continued problems with SSN!
smilingstone replied to smilingstone's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
I can't log in to use online services without going through one of two verification methods. Either ID.me or Login.gov (names might be slightly wrong, but they are the only 2 options to log in). I am able to log in and see a dashboard, but can't do anything there without verifying myself with a valid ID through one of those two sites. I have tired this with both to no avail. But my issue isn't with gaining access to SSA online services. My issue is that I can't gain access to everything else needed here like bank account, credit, etc without my SSN being validated. And I can't validate it because it says there's no record to match my info, whether that's on SSA site, ID.me, Login.gov, banks, credit, etc. They all say invalid, but I camt validate because there's no record match. Do you see the vicious cycle I'm in lol? Because SSA says nothing is wrong to them. The info they tell me on the phone is the same as if I was sat at their desk. It's the same computer screen. SSA have told me that they do not "verify" SSNs. When they are generated for a person, they are automatically valid. The verification is requested by third parties for basically every service here. Banks, credit, insurance, etc. This is not an issue with SSA as I have double checked my name, both maiden and married, address, phone number, etc. The post office is just a verification option, as well as doing it online. But even to verify in person, you need to put in your info online, and when I do it says there's no match. -
I'm once again here asking if anyone has suggestions or advice regarding an SSN not behaving... Long story short, I have had my SSN updated from maiden to married name and trying to do the usual things like get put on husband's bank account and as an joint user on a credit card. Had problems with both coming back saying invalid or unable to be verified. I left it alone until I got my learner's permit/state ID (AL) as I saw you could verify your SSN online with a DL or ID. But even with that now, the online verification comes back with "no records match the information". I called SSA yesterday to ask if they knew anything, they said everything looks good on their side and said I could try going to a post office to verify in person. You need to start this process online, still, to generate a barcode, but I can't get the barcode because it says there's no record of me and my info. I went to the post office today to ask, but they said they need the barcode. So I'm stuck in a loop! Has anyone experienced this? Know what could be causing it? Is it because my DL is a learners permit (that also says FN on it, which hubby says means foreign). I've also read somewhere that having no credit score/record can cause a problem. So would getting a cc in my own name solve this? Just feel like I'm going to encounter the same issue with them not being able to verify me. I'd also note that our residential address differs from our mailing address, but I've tried both addresses and a combination of them and still no joy. Honestly no idea what to do at this point. We aren't able to comingle much of anything because of this, the most we have is a shared credit card (I have my own card, but it's not a joint account because of this).

Yeah, filed 5 months ago, but I've seen people here who filed around the same time go through it all so much quicker. Maybe it's just luck. I know I'm technically within the average still, but it just makes me feel like something is wrong. Maybe being on VJ so much and reading other people's timelines is skewing my expectations.
-
Know this is a long shot as I haven't noticed many VJers in AL, but wondering if there is anyone out there who went through AOS here? If there's anyone, what was your timeline? I know I just need to be patient but my case filing is still sitting at 32 months and it's so disheartening considering the accepted average of 6 to 8... Been here since Jan, married in Feb, filed in April, biometrics in May. Sweet nothing since.

Renewal for B2 Tourist Visa denied in Mexico City
smilingstone replied to Very_44_EP's topic in Tourist Visas
Potentially. They will see that it is due to expire and she had a recent refusal, so could think that she is trying to get in before it expires to overstay (not saying that is her plan, only that I can see CBP seeing it that way). -
Applying for L-2 visa with offences from 25 years ago
smilingstone replied to Dan Willmott's topic in Work Visas
Remember to also request the Subject Access Report to accompany your ACRO. It is a seperate document. -
How can you say it's a bona fide marriage when everything you have disclosed says otherwise? Do you think it is normal to not only not live with your husband, but to not even know where he lives? If he is homeless, who was paying for all these trips that you are using as evidence of marriage? And who is paying for your motel? I also note that you only mentioned physical abuse when you asked about VAWA and was advised there was no rationale. Do you have evidence of this abuse? Police reports? Witnesses? my thoughts to you is to go back to your home country. You probably had a better life there before all of this.

If it was put in one of four bags, then that narrows it down significantly, no? So shouldn't be hard to find? If the packet wasn't forwarded to USCIS, then you need the I693, and will need to pay for a whole new medical. There's only digital records of things once USCIS scans it in. If they don't have the docs to scan, how are they supposed to know it exists? If you file for AOS without the medical, then there'll be an RFE. I don't know if it would result in automatic rejection. Maybe someone else can confirm that But filing now might actually work in your favour as if she arrived July 5th, Sept 5th (very soon) will be the 90 days of authorized stay on a K1 and beyond Sept 5th she will be out of status and at risk of deportation.
-
Why did she get her packet back? Are you absolutely sure that she did? Normal protocol is for the packet to be taken at POE and they forward it on to USCIS. If the packet is taken and sent to USCIS, the I693 isn't needed as it includes the DS3025, which she should have recieved a copy of. You just write a letter stating the medical was completed with 12 months and include a copy of the DS3025 for reference.

If you filled in your timeline then people would know the country you are interviewing at and could advise. -
Fiance K-1 Visa (August 2025) Thread
smilingstone replied to aRcAng3l's topic in K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures
It'd be helpful if you completed your timeline. -
I don't know what evidence there is to suggest that an EAD is only issued when an i864 is accepted. Other than a T2 officer who many times give incorrect advice. EAD takes on average a few months to recieve. I did my biometrics around 1 month after filing and my EAD was approved and delivered not long after. I'd think if anything factors into EAD approval, it would be your education and employment history. Maybe if you're an experienced professional then they are more keen to get you working than if you aren't. I think it's all just speculation though.

Getting a SSN card after a K1 marriage
smilingstone replied to Mer20250's topic in Social Security Numbers
The K1 expires upon entry, often long before marriage happens. OP, you can get SSN before or after marriage but be aware that if the beneficiary will be changing their name after marriage, they will likely struggle to do this on their SSN before they have received their EAD. -
It's best to include a seperate cover letter for each form that includes who it is addressed too, the applicants full name, A number, a full list of content (the form, itemized supporting docs), etc. You can also sign and date these covers with a wet signature. This will help give USCIS an overview of what's in each application, as well as seperating them.
-
There is no motion to reconsider as the denial was a result of you submitting incorrect/insufficient documents, not USCIS' mistake. Besides, if you have both been previously married, you should both submit divorce documents. Your only options here are to resubmit the I-129F with correct documents, or go the spousal route. People are trying to advise you best they can, but you have repeatedly avoided to answer very relevant questions.
-
I probably felt the same as you when it came to choosing the K1 over the spousal. It felt easier somehow to be apart while being engaged, not married, and saving the marriage for when we were able to be together properly. I hindsight, if we had married way back and done the spousal route, nothing would've changed, we would still be the same people and in the same situation we're in now, only some things would've been easier for me. After going through the K1, I really understand why people say spousal is just better. At the end of the day, you are still committed to each other, so really what difference does it make if you are away 2 years from your husband, or your fiance? They are still the same person and 2 years is 2 years. You need to focus on celebrating with family when you are well clear of the visa finish line. You can't do this in the conventional way, because this is not a conventional relationship. Unfortunately, family will get left out of the celebration because either they can't travel, or you can't travel, so maybe explore who would be able to come to the US once you are there and married, book an Airbnb, stay together, set aside 1 day for his family to come to the house and meet your family to celebrate together. If you book these places months in advance you often pay only a deposit and can get a full refund upto some weeks before the date, meaning it's much safer than planning 2 cross nation parties and travel with entirely different groups of people. Yes, it is hard, but nothing worth having is ever easy to achieve. Good luck!
