N400 February 2025 General Provision
OldUser replied to Avuscrm5's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
You may be misreading the tab information. When your interview is scheduled, Step #3 will be checked the same way as step #2 and step #1. -

Did you not file online? Typically you can see documents online. -
Tax Return from Home Country
OldUser replied to RobertHopkins's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
That's what instructions for I-751 say. That's what I provided and got approved. Others got approved evidence for smaller timespan - from GC approval to I-751 filing date. -
N-400 January 2025 Filers
OldUser replied to Carlos&Gen's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
You could have requested combo interview when filing N-400 by uploading your I-751 receipt notice in additional / unsolicited evidence section in your application and writing a short cover letter asking to have a combo interview due to pending I-751. I'd imagine your interview is already scheduled and it would be difficult to change anything. Be prepared to do combo interview (I-751 and N-400). But also your I-751 may get approved before interview or after interview with N-400 waiting for the outcome of I-751. It's hard to predict what exactly would happen. Too many moving parts. Good luck! -
N-400 January 2025 Filers

Combo interview. Yes, spouse needs to come with you, especially because you have I-751 pending. Otherwise IO may not approve the case. You don't have to take kids. If somebody can watch them while you're away, it should be OK. -

N-400 November 2024 Filers
OldUser replied to dc35's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
Depending on the officer and their interpretation of marital union, even a week apart could lead to denial when filing under 3 year rule. Looks like your officer was pretty relaxed about it but maybe had to get additional approval from his boss hence this excuse about slow computer. Let us know how it goes and congrats with the interview! -
In my opinion, this is a recipe for disaster in the long run. All passports and ID docs should ideally have current legal name. I can understand variations in spelling due to alphabet differences. Such as André vs Andre. However, I cannot imagine country A's passport saying John Smith and coutry B's passport saying Fred Johnes. In fact, quite a few countries, for example UK have policies for their dual citizens mandating names should match in all passports. This is really big inconvenience from security standpoint. Dual citizens with different names in different passports should not be surprised if they're asked by authorities to explain such discrepancies when travelling internationally, for example. A person with different identities will always be a subject to additional checks by both governments.

Renouncing US Citizenship
OldUser replied to DJClaire's topic in General Immigration-Related Discussion
Agreed, policits can change over the time, especially if OP has several decades of life ahead. Without more context from OP, the decision to renounce looks rushed, especially if only became a citizen few years ago. Of course, it's solely OP's decision, I was only hoping to inform OP about various aspects of renunciation. @nastra30 and @jostermacedo shared great resources to study. @DJClaire if you end up renouncing, please post your experience here. It may help somebody else in your shoes. VJ community has limited knowledge when it comes to this process. -
N-400 November 2024 Filers
OldUser replied to dc35's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
Marital union is the requirement for naturalization under 3 year rule. If you had things like spouse or you living in different state because of work, travelling for few months outside of the US without spouse, living temporarily at different addresses due to other things - this all can lead to denial of N-400 under 3 year rule. The requirement is you and your spouse living in marital union until oath without breaks. -
N-400 July 2024 Filers
OldUser replied to Elllena's topic in US Citizenship Case Filing and Progress Reports
I believe 7.5 months is the timeline between N-400 is received by USCIS and decision (approval or denial). Oath follows the positive decision and isn't included in timeline. -
That was a mistake. Either you had to study everything and file forms yourself OR you could've hired an immigration lawyer. "Preparers", notarios often harm people's cases by filing things incorrectly or not filing at all. It typically takes 4-8 weeks to get receipt for filed petitions. So let me guess, did you pay with money order instead of personal check? Why? With personal check you can track things. Demand proof of delivery from that preparer. I'm sorry to say, but there's very great chance you got scammed. But you won't know for sure until 4-8 week go by. Did you review paperwork before it was sent? Do you have copies of what all was allegedly submitted? Like, for example, did you include medical exam I-693?

Biometrics may be reused so you don't have to go to appointment. There's 0 chance interview will be waived though. Everybody has to go through it.

Errors in N400 form - Pls help
OldUser replied to SMUSA's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
I'm yet to have my interview. But you can ask people who naturalized under 5 year rule. Also, just read the form itself. Part 5, question 3. It says if not filing based on marriage to US citizen, skip to Part 6. So that means ignoring question 4 etc. -

There must be very few cases approved before 1 year. At least based on all stats publicly available. -
Errors in N400 form - Pls help
OldUser replied to SMUSA's topic in US Citizenship General Discussion
The people on the phone (tier 1) don't know things, they just make up answers. My N-400 completed online also is missing details about my US citizen spouse because I filed under 5 year rule. -
Hi everybody! I started studying the civics test questions and answers. Pretty quickly I got bored of looking at official PDF. So I built a custom GPT in OpenAI. It is supposed to ask you questions from official test. You can either reply by typing or talk using conversations feature. Start test by typing or saying "Ready" Disclaimer #1 This is Generative AI. It can produce some incorrect or inconsistent results. Disclaimer #2 This is the first custom GPT I built. It is work in progress. Disclaimer #3 Questions 20, 23 and 43 are skipped, because they differ for each state and district. Disclaimer #4 Even though it's based on official test, this is not an official study software.
