  1. Interesting. NVC should update their website if that’s the case because this is what it says
  2. You have 6 months to enter the country after your visa is issued. You can book your interview for May and enter the country immediately after your brothers wedding. I would also consider what is more important to me as well.
  3. Was your case approved on November 1st or received on November 1st? They will automatically extend the approval date so there is no need to worry.
  4. The same excuse that USCIS is using applies with the NVC. Backlogs, pandemic, lack of manpower and etc. I assume it is only going to get worse now because they have only moved one day from last week to this week. Last week, they were working on cases that were received by November 7th, today they are only working on cases received by November 8th.
  5. The case creation and processing is based on the day your petition was received. What day was your petition received at NVC? USCIS is taking 6-8 weeks to send petitions to NVC. Whenever your petition was received at NVC is when you will be able to compare your timeline with their processing times. Once you get the case number and invoice ID you will be able to pay the associated fees. My approval date is a some days after yours, and I am still waiting. I assume I won’t have my case number until the end of this month. Hang in there.
  6. Your case number is based on the day it was received. Here is how you can find out the day it was received with your case number using the Julian calendar. I found this in the September NOA2 to NVC post.
  7. They’re saying wait 90+ days for the petition to be received from USCIS. Personally, my fiancé and I have an emergency, so 90 days is absolutely unrealistic giving our current circumstances. I got my local congressman involved to see if the petition was mailed out. They confirmed that it was delivered to the NVC on the first of this month, so about 6 weeks from our approval date. Maybe he can contact USCIS to see if they mailed the petition, yet?
  8. Can you rent your property out so you can make extra income while you’re in the Philippines? It seems like the most logical thing to do to alleviate the financial aspect. As far as expediting your case, I think it is important to focus on which reason you are going to use as the reason for expedite. Based on your statement alone I feel it would be really confusing on what exactly the reason is for your expedite. Medical? Financial? Get clear on that, and it never hurts to try. If the expedite request is not approved, then I go back to my first point about renting the property out and waiting the process out with your fiancé in the Philippines.
  9. This is a great link and shows you who is in network https://www.zocdoc.com/search?filters={}&dr_specialty=153&reason_visit=75&address=Los Angeles%2C CA&offset=0&insurance_carrier=323&insurance_plan=2365&searchQueryGuid=7427cd7b-121b-4c70-b42b-14cce08c992a&component=ListingSearchButton
  10. If you and your wife are interested in traveling, this is not good if you are traveling to areas outside of their coverage area. If one day down the line you are interested in talking to a therapist, expect delays as it goes through a pretty long authorization process. Many other insurers have a nice streamlined process for this, for some reason Kaiser still hasn’t figured this one out, yet. There is a lack of flexibility to see any doctor that you’d like. Huge con in my book! Rapport is important and not all doctors are focused on making the best relationships with their patients. I have followed doctors who left a practice and went to another because of our great relationship. Unfortunately, with Kaiser, if a doctor leaves Kaiser as a whole you will not be able to follow that doctor. Lastly, their healthcare is standardized instead of individualized.
  11. Oh wow! Congratulations! We have the same approval date. I contacted USCIS last Wednesday and they told me that our petition was still pending shipment. So they’re still holding it hostage even though they know we have a family emergency. Ugh! Hopefully, you get your case number in the next couple of weeks.
  12. Hi! Welcome to California! Been living in California all my life and also had Covered CA before while I was between jobs. Also helped and volunteered getting immigrants in Los Angeles signed up for Covered CA. It is similar. Once you sign up, you can choose which plan and price is feasible for you. I chose Blue Cross for $89/ month. The plan I chose was an HMO so I had to stay within the network. If you would like to choose doctors outside of the network, just like in any other state, please select a PPO. Obviously, you need to expect a higher monthly premium. once you have selected a package, they will give you a breakdown of how your benefits work. Call their customer service if you need more information on how this works. They are pretty helpful and now many people who migrate to the states need people to walk them through the process. Their customer service can give you a better breakdown of this, but I have been told the income is based on who will be claimed on the persons income taxes. I would assume the income will be based on just you and your wife’s income. Please check with customer service It’s in your best interest to have any kind of medical insurance until you get one through an employer or your wife’s employer. Open enrollment is open now until January 31st. As long as you have a physical address in CA, get enrolled now so you can make any necessary changes later! If her income is feasible enough for her to survive paying for the both of you on her premium, her best bet is to add you to her insurance I would strongly advise her to stay from Kaiser, but if she wants to enroll with them, you should be able to visit any Kaiser location in CA. I used to have United and it was great! As long as it is a PPO there shouldn’t be any issues. If it is HMO check with the insurer to see if there will be any issues. Pretty sure you can remove someone from your plan at any time. My mom removed my dad from her health insurance when his business was able to start offering insurance to employees and it wasn’t during open enrollment time. I hope this was of some use to you!
  13. I was referring to any other vaccines outside of COVID-19 vaccines. I was not referring to COVID vaccines as I had already sent OP the link to CDC relating to that topic. Sorry thought that was pretty clear as OP seemed to understood what I said.
  14. My love, your case is being expedited. You can expect your daughters case to be moved to the front of the line to be adjudicated. I think this was pretty straightforward.
  15. I’m going to refer you to this link. Has the most up to date requirements for medical exams for COVID-19 https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/panel-physicians/covid-19-technical-instructions.html ALL of these offices where they do these medical exams have horrible reviews about rude staff. However, they are accredited by the US Embassy, so there really is no way to work around it. It’s at the panel physicians discretion if you need said vaccinations.
  16. I reached out to them through the inquiry form and sent an email. My lawyer also reached out using the same tactics and by sending them an expedite request. So we will see what happens.
  17. You can’t really make an expedite without the case number. So we’re basically sitting in limbo hoping that they will get it done this week before thanksgiving. Our lawyer put one in anyway.
  18. No updates for us, yet. We lost our son in august and really want to get to LA before Christmas so we can have a funeral service for him with my family and extended family. We already came to grips that that’s probably not happening. I don’t think it’s the shipping service that they’re using, it’s probably because they don’t ship every week, and they sit in a pile until someone gets to them.
  19. I suggest checking out skyscanner and checking out tickets on Tuesday’s in an incognito window on your browser. I always find flights at a cheaper rate with this hack.
  20. From my understanding you can enter “0” since the beneficiary cannot legally work once they enter in the country. I’ll let one one of the senior VJers confirm that. How much do you intend to provide to your fiancé until they can legally work? Do you intend to give them $100/week? 200? You’re legally responsible for beneficiaries for up to 10 years, so I believe it needs to be listed within that time frame. AGAIN, leaving that to senior VJers. It says to only complete this section if you, yourself are the beneficiary. You are not, you’re the petitioner. Skip to part 5. This form is for you because you are the petitioner. Unless you need an interpreter or preparer, skip and only answer the questions meant for the petitioner.
