Paging @Supernatural who I think went through nearly an identical situation, albeit with far less time knowing his significant other in Ukraine. I believe the conclusion was that you could file the I-485 (Adjustment of Status) after coming on U4U and marrying. I'm not sure, but I think he was pursuing a K-1 at the time the war started. The following is the thread:

Best of luck to you, stay safe wherever you are.

Yeah pretty similar process I’m going through. Since I’m in college and don’t make a ton of money I had my mom sponsor my now wife from Ukraine. After the U4U was approved I went and met her in Poland and brought her back with me. We got married 3 months after she got here. I haven’t sent the i485 yet because I’m waiting for the i693 medical exam still. Should be in about 4 weeks and then I can submit all the paperwork.

  2. Ok so it sounds like I can file the i130/285/765/131/864 all at the same time. I don’t plan on cutting corners I was just curious how it all worked.  We already started filling out some of them.

We already got her a ssn and a drivers permit a while ago so it almost seems like she shouldn’t have been able to get those without filing all these forms first somehow haha.

    Thanks everyone.

  3. So I should file the i130 and i485 now together and when should I do the i765/i131/i864 ?
Also are the i765/i131/i864 even required? Like the i131 is the Application for Travel Document, but she’s already here so what’s the point? And the i765 is the Application for Employment Authorization, but if we are fine living with just my wages is it necessary? And the i864 is Afidavit or Support, but wasn’t that already done when we did the Uniting for Ukraine forms?
Sorry for the maybe dumb questions, but I just want to be sure if what I’m doing. Thanks!

  4. When filling out the I-130 and I-485 should I use my wife’s original last name she came here with or with her new last name (mine). The only document we have with her new last name is the marriage certificate. So should I go and update her social security card and ID card first? And her passport form Ukraine will have her original last name too of course. I’m really overthinking this now and got myself confused. Basically I’m wondering what else all needs to be updated with her new last name before I file these forms with uscis and which last name to use for her on the forms. Thanks!

My beneficiary received the email telling them to create an uscis account to confirm their biographic information. Is it ok if I use one of my own emails to create an account for them, or does it need to be their email that they received the notice from? Since they are in Ukraine I figured if I used their email and phone it will be a total hassle to sign in since you always need the code from your phone to get logged in.

Ok never mind. got it figured out and submitted )
