  1. We are aware of 5-6 other people who have their cases completed at NVC and are waiting for their interview to be scheduled for MTL...knowing how many of us are waiting and how long their cases have been completed would give us at least some idea how big the backlog is...

my fiancee and i are waiting for packet 4!

  2. hi guys :)

a couple of weeks ago my fiancee had his medical (i was there for moral support).

everything seemed to go alright and 48 hours later he got a box with his x-rays, immunizations and a sealed letter for the consulate.

does this mean everything was all okay- his blood tests, x-rays, everything...? how do you know if you've "passed"? i dont want to get to the consulate and hear that we are being denied for a medical reason!!!

  3. Haha she yelled at me too because nothing on my form had changed and apparently I verified the info too quickly for her liking.

To the OP, my full experience with her can be found here. But don't even worry about her. Even if she's the one who ends up reviewing your forms before the interview, just be as polite and diplomatic as possible. When you are asked about the border incident, just be honest about what happened and about the fact that you forgot about it when you filled out the form.

your experience was very informative and interesting! thanks for writing all that out! thank GOD that crazy lady was not the one to interview you. it sounds like you got lucky with your interviewer :)

since i filled out the paperwork, i want to be the one to explain the situation, but i don't know how the consulate feels about sponsors/fiancees yapping away. should i ask to clarify right away or wait until they ask if he's ever been turned away? ugh...

anyway, thanks again for sharing your experience...very helpful!

  4. Oh I had her too, but she didn't do my interview... she was the lady who collects all your docs and checks stuff over. She was downright horrible, she yelled at me because my phone number changed and I hadn't brought a new updated form

haha WHAT? are you kidding me? can you take these people to task for being a-holes or does that reflect badly on your interview. i mean because-hey...nobody deserves abuse!

  5. Oh yes, the infamous dark curly haired tyrant at MTL. I'd heard about her many times here in the Canadian forums, then got the opportunity to witness her temper first hand when I was in the Montreal Consulate. She was putting a man with a heavy accent through the ringer for missing a document that he needed. She is um...different, but most likely you won't even have to meet her since there are a few windows (can't remember the exact number,) you can get called up to, which means your chances of having to deal with her are pretty small.

If no one else suggested it in your previous thread, I would recommend making an InfoPass appointment, and just explain what happened and see what they say.

i live in new york city...i'd like to think i can deal with angries pretty well, but you never know! so thanks for the info. and if i may bug you one more time- can you tell me what an "InfoPass appointment" is? i've never heard of this before.

    thanks in advance!

  6. Angry lady? I'm not really sure I've heard about her... But I supose anyone can be angry if you get them on a bad day! The woman interviewing us was actually quite pleasant. Rigid and serious but still rather pleasant. However the person who was intereviewed by her after us was saying how mean and judgemental she was... So it probably just depends on how hard you make her job that day?

believe me, after our screw up and hearing all this? i plan on being goddamned DELIGHTFUL! lol!

  7. can someone tell me about this woman. i'd like to know what my fiancee and i have to look forward to when we have our interview :(

she was brought up when i asked this question:

"okay guys, here's the deal we may have inadvertently lied on our k-1 paperwork.

the very first time my fiancee visited me (this was like, over 8 years ago) he was sent back at the border because the ins felt he didn't bring enough paper money with him to be in new york for a week (eventhough he had his bank card with him and he was staying with me, therefore not needing a whole lot of money anyhow).

he went home, went to the bank, pulled more money out and came to visit a day later without further incident.

he's never been denied at the border again.

on our paperwork we put he was never denied entrance to the u.s. because, frankly, we pretty much forgot about it because it was nothing to us.

is this going to come back to bite us?

    really. really. worried..."

  8. At the time of the incident, was he "just" turned back, or was he given any piece of paper, and/or is there something stamped in his passport from that date? If so, what does it say?

he had to sit there for a long time answering questions and he vaguely recollects filling out some paperwork. but he was not given any paper and there is nothing stamped in his passport at all (i kind of wish they would stamp his passport when he crosses because it would've made that crazy question about how many times he's visited a whole lot easier)

To me, it sounds like he was denied entry. If it was me, I'd take ANY opportunity at the interview to point it out. It is understandable that you forgot such a minor incident 8 years ago, what is not understandable is tyring to cover up your mistake. They know he was denied entry (I was denied entry and at my interview they knew the date, what I said when I was there, who I was with, documentation I brought with me - they knew it all)

Just point out the error and you will be ok.

    Good luck.

okay we will be certain to do that (i will be at the interview with him, so i will make certain it gets brought up as soon as is possible)

    thanks!

There will definitely be a flag in the database that the Consulate Officer can see, and it will probably come up at his interview. Which Consulate are you with? Hopefully, he doesn't get the angry lady in Montreal. Make sure he lets them know that he had completely forgotten about it and he is truthful about everything. Also make sure he asks them to remove the flag to prevent any future problems he may have when crossing.

    Good luck.

    eeeeeeeeee.

"angry lady in montreal"? montreal is our consulate. oh man...

  9. okay guys, here's the deal we may have inadvertently lied on our k-1 paperwork.

the very first time my fiancee visited me (this was like, over 8 years ago) he was sent back at the border because the ins felt he didn't bring enough paper money with him to be in new york for a week (eventhough he had his bank card with him and he was staying with me, therefore not needing a whole lot of money anyhow).

    really. really. worried... :(

  10. The medical is sealed because it's for the Consulate, not yourself, so I think that's why they probably sealed it. You would think if there was anything wrong they would have spoken to your fiance??? If you are a worry-wart, like most of us are, call them us, and acknowledge receipt of everything and just ask since it's sealed if everything is okay with the medical.

You might want to ask at the Consulate at your interview for a copy of the vaccination or immunization sheet.

The actual medical form is only a few pages long, so that's probably what's in the envelope. Call just to make sure so you're not worrying.

thanks for the advice! will do.

  11. my fiancee and i were just in toronto for his medical. the medical went fine. no glaring problems and 48 hours later he received a box with immunization record, x-ray (which he did not open), and a letter saying "do not open".

does this mean all went well? no problems with the blood tests and the like?

what in the world does that sealed letter say?! it wouldn't say there was a problem, would it? and we'd only find out at the interview?

if this question sounds paranoid, it's because i am totally OCD and crazy lady about the interview and want to make certain everything is as perfect as can be!

    thanks in advance, guys :)

  12. She will need the originals for the interview. If you want to hold on to the originals, then you will should probably consider flying over there to bring them to her for the interview and then flying them back home. I know it is tough to let the originals out of your possession - my now husband had difficulties with that too. It isn't so much not trusting your partner as not trusting the courier or mail system with these precious documents. Still, she will need to have the originals of any documents you submitted with the petition and the Affidavit of Support needs to have original documents so the Consular officials can verify they are not forgeries. Make and keep copies of everything you do send to your fiancee and make sure she has copies of everything you have submitted already. Send them by the most secure means you know regardless of the cost.

Oh, you don't send your passport - send your birth certificate - as proof of your US citizenship.

wait a minute- wait a minute...all i sent in for packet 3 was the ds-230 and the checklist. am i missing something here??!

  13. "The following persons are dependent upon me for support:"

i put "NONE", because i live alone and have no children, but is that the correct answer?

also, question 10...would that be a "NONE" or my fiancee's name?

what i mean is- i put none, but i am the sponsor (i have a co-sponsor)

and as for 10- my fiancee is the only person i've ever started the visa process with. does he count or is it still "NONE"?

  14. we just sent the ds-230 and the checklist back on tuesday and now i'm wondering how long it will take to hear back from montreal and get our interview date.

i got an email from the consulate saying its taking anywhere from 2-5 months to get to the interview, but how long will it take to get notification of this?

i'm asking because it costs so much money. we're both going and we're going to have to start saving up and fast.

    thanks, guys...

  15. He should enter the names of all those who are listed as dependents on his latest income tax return. Mom should be included based on what you have stated regarding her income.

you people are the best! thank you!

i swear to god- i'm such a dizzy broad. if it weren't for the people on this forum i'd never have made it even this far...

if only i could take you all out to lunch to thank you. haha. :star:

  16. YOU are the "sponsor". YOU will always be the sponsor. THEY are co-sponsor. What is THEIR relationship to YOU? "Parent of sponsor/petitioner"

The I-134 is a single person document. Only one of your parents can sponsor, so choose the one with highest income (if they both have income) IF they both have income then the other parent does NOT count in "family size" but any other dependent children WOULD count in family size. Dependent children are any children claimed on the 2008 tax return. IF only one has income then the other counts in the family size along with your fiance. YOU do not count in family size. If they filed a joint return (most likely) then only one person's income counts and needs to be verified (w-2 for that parent and/or 1099s or schedule C) plus employment letter (optional) and/or check stubs. They also need to provide proof they are a US citizen or legal permanent resident (YOU already did that with the petition, they did not)

thank you for the detailed answer!

    one more...

question 8: "The following persons are dependent on me for support"

i am disabled. i do not work, but i go to school full-time and my parents help me with rent, and i am on their insurance until i get married. do they add me to 8?

my mother does not make any income, my father makes well-above the 125% poverty limit for my mother, me, my brother and my fiancee.

who will he add for question 8?

    thank you in advance!

  17. i couldnt find one, but i may just be going crazy...

is there an example form that i can show my parents (who are our co-sponsors) for the affidavit of support they must fill out?

my affidavit answers were different from what i thought they should be (thanks for helping out everyone! no matter how i questioned), so i want to make certain my parents get everything right, as our interview is coming up.

    thanks!

  19. i wonder why they sent us the ds-156k then, if not to fill it out?

    and DIDN'T send the ds-230...

    a mistake?

too many questions and not enough answers, montreal!

they really need to send a step by step guide for easily-confused-people like me. i could have NEVER come this far without everyones help!!!

    so thank you! :star:

yeah im reading over and over that the DS-156K is still required

Montreal sent me a very old outdated DS-230. I printed off extra copies from the web and noticed the version difference (really only that they ask for my email address and rearrange the boxes a bit) .. so i sent in the newer version.

this forum is SO DARN AWESOME i can't even say.. and i only found it this past week! I'm relieved to see that so far i've done everything i need to properly. It seems relatively painless, except for the waiting and being apart. i know im preaching to the choir there..

as long as you send/sent what the checklist tells you to send (the DS-230 and the checklist), you're fine.. i'm still collecting documents from the checklist. birth certificate arrived today. yay!

this forum really is the best! :D good luck to you!

and thanks for your advice. curious, though. do they want both parts of the DS-230? I & II?
