  1. we are expecting our NOA2 sometime in january.

(hopefully this will go smoothly as neither of us have a job. i am disabled and he was recently laid off {damn crappy economy} but if not- my parents have said they will sign the affadavit of support, so i don't think that will be a problem).

my fiancee lives in ontario so i believe our interview will take place in montreal. great city. i love poutine etc ;) my question is, would it make a difference to the interviewer if we were both there? i'd love to come along to see my fiancee and support him/us!

  2. Hello everyone. I'm going positively insane! For some reason it's WORSE when you file and it's WORSE knowing you have 4 months to wait. Kind of like waiting for water to boil.

    ...But you all know this.

I filed in august and we have not been touched yet. I'm assuming this is not unusual, but it would be really REALLY nice to know our case has been at least LOOKED at!

My questions are (and I'm sorry for all the blathering):

Do people usually get touched after a certain amount of time, or could it happen it any time?

Do the people at the border have a record of our NOA1 in their computer?

    I'm curious.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. They let him through...he's not going to be denied his K-1 visa based on that! Tell him not to lie to Border officials anymore though! See raymaga's post.

The deny, deny, deny posting was said in jest.

your reply definitely put my mind at ease. it did cross my mind that if there was notice of the k-1 in the computer and he lied they probably wouldn't let him cross. but you just never know and i'm a worrier. thank you!

...and for all those that were wondering- he was spanked. summarily.

    ;)

  4. my fiancee just crossed yesterday, but there is a big problem. when he was crossing they asked him all the usual stuff "what he was going for" "how we met" but then they asked "are you engaged?" and the blockhead said "NO" for some reason.

after i told him (under the advice of everybody here) he musn't EVER lie to a border guard.

i just know we're going to be denied. what should we do?

  5. when we are approved, my fiancee will not be flying, rather coming through on a greyhound from s. ontario.

what would be the POEs for him when crossing?

    thanks in advance!

  6. what do you think of newark? i've been toying with the idea of moving to jersey (like, hoboken) for a few years. if the price is right.

I come from Southern Ontario myself so I guess I am not used to the complete urbaness. I love big cities but the city is a little too crowded for me. I'm pretty much over it too. I still like going there though. It has a lot to offer.

oh! where from s. ontario are you? my fiancee lives in dresden.

nyc does have alot to offer, but i'm all about being mellow and settling down. and becoming a homeowner! for godsakes...with the amount of money ive spent on rent here i coudl've been a homeowner 5 times over. it makes you sick to think about!

  7. Your fiancee must show proof that he is returning to Canada. One of the biggest pieces of evidence is a job, since he can truthfully say, yes I intend on returning because work expects me back on this date. I can almost guarantee that the POE will ask where he works and what he does. If he lies and the POE decides it's a good day to follow up on it and your fiancee is lying it could hurt his coming to visit you in the future before he obtains his visa, and it may hurt his chances of getting your visa.

When I went to visit my wife a few weeks ago, it was the first time that I had returned to the US since I was denied admission in Nov 2007. When I traveled to the US I brought my proof of employment, several financial letters proofing where I lived. My proof of employment is my contract letter that states the duration of my job, and since the letter referred to my company and did not state me on there anywhere, I also brought proof of my incorporation with my name as the owner. I would recommend your fiancee just take vacation time and quit his job after he returns to Canada so you'll have proof of his employment. Good luck with that.

his job was only temporary and would end a couple weeks after he returned anyhow. that's the problem. he lives in a very tiny town on southern ontario and there is not much opportunity. but we do plan on doing this legally and i will have him bring the paperwork to show if all else fails and hope they take some pity on us. he has a letter from his dentist (he has to be back to get his wisdom teeth taken out) and a return ticket. so please wish us luck!

  8. haha

Have you always lived in NYC? I've only been to Harlem a couple of times.

I live right next to Newark.

i've lived here for 11 years apart from a couple years i went to art school in portland, oregon. my guy and i plan on moving back out there as soon as we can.

i'm over new york, really. i spent my formative years here sewing my wild oats. i will miss the convenience though. but i can get a pabst blue ribbon for 75 cents on a wednesday in portland. and you can't beat that!

what do you think of newark? i've been toying with the idea of moving to jersey (like, hoboken) for a few years. if the price is right.

  9. Showing ties to Canada is important but will he not have a hard time doing this since he is quitting his job and no longer employed at a place of work in Canada?

Where do you live in NYC bogartnoir?

yeah. it's making us nervous. we have a concert to go to that is like, once in a lifetime so i really hope he can make it.

i live in spanish harlem, thetreble. or SpaHa as the idiot realtors like to call it.

  10. Hi everyone...

My fiancee is going to visit me on Saturday and this is the first time he'll be visiting since we got the NoA1. He is quitting his (temporary) job to come visit for 2 weeks and this is concerning to us.

What do we need to know and what should we expect from the folks at the border when he attempts to cross? Should he immediately show our paperwork and copy of the noa1 or only show if they ask? any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you!

  11. I am going to see my sweetie in November. I am preparing some documents to show my ties to Canada, mortgage, car payments, property deeds, job-letter from employer stating expected return date. I would try and get some proof to show them that he doesn't plan on staying with you. Quitting the job isn't a good start I wouldn't think. They say to drive if you can that way if you get turned away at least your not out the cost of the plane ticket. Good luck!

well the job was temporary and only going to last another couple weeks after anyhow. :\

he is coming by bus, but should he bring all the paperwork i've prepared, and a copy of the noa1? if he has a return ticket would that help as well?

  12. Assuming everything goes as planned and we receive our NoA2 in january, what happens next?

I know there needs to be an interview. do they schedule that for you? Is it directly after getting your NoA2?

An NoA2 is NOT the real approval then? the real approval comes after the interview? Do you know right away or do they take time in considering?

I just want to be extra prepared!!!

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Woot for the 21st of June! We were at home it was very cute, and then he took me out to lunch.

Very simple and very sweet, it was lovely, gave me the huge butterflies feeling lol!

    What about you?

thats so sweet. i love simple and i'm glad it gave you butterflies!

g and i met in 1999 in a chatroom for the cure- our favorite band.

our first time seeing the band together was the 20th, and the 21st on the second night of our shows he proposed to me during a song called 'lovesong'. the singer wrote it for his wife on their wedding day. :)

    it was a perfect moment.

  14. Take some soilace in the fact that you are on the same continent so the possibilities of visits are more possible and cheaper. I wanted to be able to visit for a couple of weeks next month, sadly i dont have a spare 3k lieing around....

i'm sorry. i forget sometimes that people are so far away and can't visit as often as two months (though even two months seems like forever). it's so frustrating, this process. sometimes i think they make it difficult to keep people who are not as hearty as some, apart.

we were engaged on the same day :)

where were you when he asked?
