Halloween!
in Canada
This is potentially racist, so I apologize in advance... LOLBut 2 friends and I are all dressing up as Mexicans and are going to be Three Amigos... hahaha We picked up sombreros last night, and some poncho making material, and mustaches, and I have some maracas, and we'll drink only mexican related drinks all night... hahha I'm really excited actually. I think it's going to be hilarious. I'm also going to try to get some other accessories to go with... I have a list... LOL
Think this, without the guns.. lol My friend wants to get cap guns, but I think that's a STUPID f'ing idea, especially since we're going to a bar.. and yet, they say we can't have a pinata... okaaaaay.... not sure I follow the logic (I understand pinatas can be dangerous with drunk people... lol but I was just going to have it with a hole precut and pour candy out of it or something. lol)
yes. this is racist. and kind of stupid especially since the three amigos themselves were 3 white guys in mariachi outfits.
ps: us filthy mexicans don't dress like this at all. get into the 21st century. pretty bad.

Yep! Like Sapphire said, the DS 156 and the DS 156k, as well as the support form. Make sure you have two completed copies of the DS 156.
oh fantastic! i'll just knock the ds-156s out tonight then
thank you both!

DS156
DS156K
Confirmation of the DS160
I'm pretty sure that was it. I sent the DS230 part 1 with my packet 3
right. with packet 3 i sent the ds160 (online), checklist and ds230.
so all i have are the ds-156s and affadavit of support left to fill out then?

can anyone tell me which forms are required to take to the interview
(the ones required before they sent all the paperwork with p3)
thanks in advance.
-
hi folks.
so my fiancee and i were one of the last k-1ers to NOT be given the paperwork with our packet 3 to prepare and bring to the interview.
we are the old school, so to speak.
can someone tell me what paperwork is needed to complete our k-1?
we're just waiting for packet 4 and our interview date.
thanks in advance!
-
Evidence of Domicile is for the petitioner I'm assuming.
what does this mean? that i, as the petitioner, am not living in a box someplace but have a legit address?
-
they haven't given me ANY valuable information over the phone except, no, we don't have a date scheduled.
and i guess we are august filers. i kept saying we were july because that's when we sent the silly packet 3. which of course was the last day of july. on a friday. sigh. JUST GIMME A SIGN!
and i wish we didn't have more paperwork. shortly after us is when they implemented all the paperwork for the p3-ers. we still have to fill out the 156-k or whatever.
does anyone who did this old school know what's in packet 4 so i can just be done with it???
thanks, guys.

dont take me wrong .. i have nothing against spanish ...just that its very hard when people have a strong accent to understand something... and the language barrier from just french to english is just again harder if someone talk a 3rd language on top of it... no offense taken please...
i accept that. i see from your wording that you're probably french, proper. and didn't mean it maliciously. no offense taken.

So Varba called today and we have a date!.. except they can't tell us when... very strange, but they'll be mailing my packet 4 on October 18, which is a Sunday...
congrats you guys! although, you know...odd circumstances, but as long as you're getting your packet 4!
Bogartnoir... you were being funny, right? You're always so nice I didn't think you were making fun of 'delicate FRench ears'....I also wanted to ask you guys, as a CR1 person, how long was it supposed to take for a K1? I ahd heard that they were processed really, really fast. But just reading Peachy and Varba's timeline -- it looks like it'll be about 8-10 month processing time. If you had known it was going to be this long -- would you guys have done it differently?
I'm just curious and trying to wile away the Friday afternoon before a long weekend afternoon at work...
LGG
sarcasm and lots of eyerolls.
i really don't appreciate it when someone insults my mother-tongue, frankly, whilst calling their french ears "delicate". rather snotty.
-
Called too...nothing new for me and the lady was talking too much Spanish to my poor french ears...
i didn't really understood anything but she explained Montreal have delay blah blah blah...
calling again tomorrow to see if i can get a good easy to understand person....
SPEAKING too much spanish. and i doubt she was speaking spanish at all. and i'm sorry my horrible coarse language was insulting to your delicate "french ears"

maybe i'm the only one who feels kind of bad for the people working there. it's pretty much a thankless job.
i mean, don't get me wrong. i'd REAAALLLLY like grant to get his visa asap, but when you deal with bureaucracy you can be certain to be disappointed everytime.
and any time i write to montreal they've always been really nice and calming to me
(especially when i was freaking out the time g got turned away from the border & forgot to put it on the paperwork).
they're just doing their job under pressure and with even less help. so i feel for them.
except for that angry lady. up hers! B)
-
just email them i think
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG
So Wes just checked his email, and they said a letter has just been sent and our date is Nov 23rd!! Crappy that its so far away but yay!
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!
CONGRATS!
you have plenty of time to be thoroughly excited and prepare! you've also given the rest of us hope!!!
GOOD LUCK!
-
Yeah, the lady with bad english (I got her too) said that to me on the phone.
At least we know if we don't have an interview by November we can start bugging them directly
peachey, when you start ripping them a new one, do let us know because i'm certainly looking forward to my turn!
-
as long as you follow the guides, you guys are going to be absolutely fine. vj is an awesome place and no one will steer you wrong.
good luck.
-
Uh...I know Dome got hers around the beginning of september for a date at the end of september. Not sure if she was the last one though
GAH! that's cutting it way too close!
i'm july, too, btw! late july...but july nonetheless!!!
-
i'm going with my fiancee to the interview so i need time to prepare.
i'm one of those people that needs a lot of time to plan anything so i'm hoping we hear weeks and weeks and weeks in advance.
-
not a bloody thing.
(as you may have suspected)
are we thinking november/december at this point, july people?

The number for DOS is 202-663-1225. Dial that number then enter 1 and then 0 to speak to a live person. Everyone at DOS has been very friendly and helpful even if i was a pain in the butt callign twice a week for 5 weeks.
haha. you're just tenacious, that's all!
and THANKS!
-
does anyone have the montreal DOS phone number?
i need time here. i gotta know asap!!!
-
omg. now that our time is coming up- i'm TERRIFIED.
-
I called DOS today... got my interview date!!!! October 28 .. wooohoo =)
yes congratulations, but what does your timeline look like? when did you send back packet 3?
-
leftover pizza.
which i LOVE.
tomorrow i'll be more ambitious make a spicy pepper jack and ham quiche
-
"maybe i should explain...
my fiancee is the canadian/beneficiary.
i am the petitioner and i already have a co-sponsor.
but as the person coming to the united states- will it look bad for him to be receiving welfare?
we are waiting on packet 4.
Sure doesn't help!
Will he be getting welfare in the US?
You'd think someone applying for citizenship would no that isn't possible...
CANADIAN welfare. not welfare from the united states...
-
You are a real worrier bogatnoir!
Whether he's on EI, or if he's receiving social assistance is irrelevant. He won't be on either once he gets the visa anyway and he won't be collecting "welfare" once he's in the U.S. either, as you, and your co-sponsor will be supporting him until he can work. Stop worrying!
carla,
a: i AM crazy
and b: i will be on the verge of a heart attack until visa is in hand!!!

well no. he'll be getting a job and my parent's will support us until he gets on his feet here.
correct - they don't care if he received UI in Canada - his Cdn income (of whatever description) doesn't figure into things - you have no worries. They only want to know that you have the means to support him when he moves to the US
thank you! and thanks everyone else who has been so kind to answer!!!

no i don't think i do need to lighten up. if i went out in blackface or gave myself yellow skin with squinty eyes- people would be outraged. or i HOPE people would be outraged. racist constructs have no place in this society now. let me give you a tip- if you apologize in advance that something might be racist, while laughing at the notion (as if it could never be construed as insulting)- you're ACKNOWLEDGING something is insulting and is wrong. if you doubt me, why don't we move this thread to the mexican regional discussion forum and see how they react.
i know this won't stop anyone from reconsidering their costume, but it should.
and if you can't tell the difference between witches and mousekateers and AN ETHNIC GROUP then some of the people on this thread are more clueless than i originally thought. halloween is no excuse to bring out racial stereotypes. why am i having to explain this to adult people? jesus christ...
