Well, that medical experience was something else.
I'll post a full thing later about it.
you had a bad experience? :\ most people have an easy time of it.
-
i've asked him to buy just ONE pair of semi-nice shoes. you know? in case we go someplace nice or he has a job interview (here's hoping?)
no dice.
funnily enough he IS wearing his converse when we get married, which i find adorable and whimsical.
-
i'll be the one wearing black. lots and lots of black.
as for g? i'm still picking out what he should wear. but probably nice jeans, and a nice sweater over a button down shirt.
and his converse. because he refuses to buy any other type of shoe for some reason.

I have the full packet 3 from Montreal scanned, but I am not sure how I send it to you to be posted. It is in pdf format. It includes the check list (not checked or signed) and all the other instructions as well. It is the full 10 pages.
Ashen and I actually went through the whole package last night and got it all updated for Montreal on the wiki if you guys want to take a look. We included the full medical packet as well under the medical heading so now people can truly see what all you get from MTL.
you are too awesome!

just doing some last minutes stuff-
i see that people have had trouble because they lack enough evidence for proof of domicile.
what can i bring besides my water bill and copy of my apartment lease to show proof?
(this is for a k-1, btw. i dont even know if this is necessary- i'm just trying to cover my ash)
thanks!

for some reason searching for affidavit of support form took me to an old uscis form from 2006 that needed to be notarized.
the i-134 form i have is from 10.30.08 and does not require this extra step.
what to do, what to do?

you are gentlepeople and scholars!
i'll bump this up from time to time as we get closer to the interviews!
-
someone who is smarter and more together than me please begin/add to the list here.
-
we're staying at the residence inn.
about a 14 minute walk to the consulate according to google maps...
free breakfast and the rooms are nice and clean and have a kitchenette.
no reports of bedbugs (THEE most important consideration!)

we got our packet 4 today!
and...it's just a little letter. :|
was hoping for a DETAILED list of what to bring, but they like making this as ridiculous as possible, so i'm going with my first instinct to smoke the hell out of them with every last thing we ever sent/are to bring 3 times over.

congrats you guys!

no more perks and rewards! i'm in debt as it is!

Back when Jimmy Carter was president, there was an outbreak of swine flu in the US. Ol' Jimmy really pushed for everyone to get vaccinated. Problem was, thousands and thousands of people had severely adverse side effects, and became very ill and some dead. Ol' Jimmy really had egg on his face. Personally, I am not going to get the H1N1 shot, but will get a regular flu shot. Keep the immunity strong, and try to avoid hanging out with the pre-school and elementary school crowd. If I was a teach, then I would get the shot. Cheers.

hmmm. not so much according to this.

I don't really have an option either way. I hate needles and I've never found the regular flu shot to be effective, so I wouldn't get it for myself, but if I had a child? That would be a much harder decision. I suppose people have been getting vaccinated for years with a lot of questionable additives put into the serum and we're all ok. I still only have 2 eyes!
Unfortunately its too late for my little sister! She is feeling much better now and will probably be back in school by the middle of the week. Apparently it is slowly spreading around her high school and at least a dozen kids now have it, and probably even more than have not been diagnosed or sent to see a doctor. The worst part of it, from what she has told me, is the high fevers. Apparently she wasn't able to sleep much through the weekend and kept waking up feeling like she was on fire. Fortunately she is a healthy girl and it doesn't seem to have hit her as hard as some other unfortunate kids.
two eyes? is that normal after getting the vaccine? ;p

hahahah yeah, I was reading about the chicken pox vaccine before I got it last week, and apparently parents used to bring their kids over to the house of a kid who got chicken pox, hoping that their kids would catch it from them, and thus become immune once it was gone.
this is all i have to say about that:
jeezus.

two quick links of interest for you guys:
http://scienceblogs.com/effectmeasure/
some great and interesting information here...
"CDC is again warning parents not to send your children to a swine flu party. The idea is to provide them with immunity, like used to be done with chickenpox parties." #######?!
http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/features...u-get-swine-flu
10 things to do BEFORE you get swine flu.
all terrific things to consider doing now.

i notice that quite a few of the links people post regarding the h1n1 flu shot are on the verge of conspiracy theory. there's healthy skepticism and then there's outright hysteria. and that doesn't help anyone.
ask your doctor questions. get the right information.
i follow a couple of science blogs. people in the field who know the right questions to ask and aren't about scaring people.
the ingredients in ANY vaccine are not attractive. but they work, and mostly without incident.
i got the regular flu vaccine. when everyone who is at a risk (and wishes to) gets their h1n1 vaccine and they have less of a shortage, i will probably get mine.
(my father is a scientist and a doctor and he is getting the h1n1 shot. he trusts his colleagues, and i trust him implicitly)

Hmm quick question and sorry for that long list.
WHAT? do NOT apologize for that list that's EXACTLY the kind of thing i was looking for. so thanks! holy cow...

i really want a thread that has all the paperwork and everything and more so that i'm COMPLETELY ready. because at this point i'm scared and anxious and worried and freaked out that i'll miss the ONE THING they're gonna want.
I was just wondering, for CR 1 visa, everything was asked to be submitted through mail. I.e. Birth certs, marriage certs, Affidavit of Support, fees, criminal check etc. Wasn't that the case for K1 visas? Or do you have to take all that at the interview?
some copies of those things were mailed, but most everything else needs to be taken to the interview. which is why we're all freaking out!

hah... it's funny this topic came up. I actually recorded an 'instructional video' last year... it's on youtube... for my non-Canadian friends who could NOT wrap their heads around the concept of milk in a bag. lol
I think milk in a jug or carton actually would have more contaminants near the openings than milk from the bag would. No one ever touches the snipped part. There's no folding or closing attempts, yet jug lids or the carton folding parts are constantly touched. ick.
I don't drink much milk (somewhat intolerant), so I don't actually buy the milk in a bag, but the absence of it will just be added to the list of things that make U.S. stores seem weird to me. lol
that sounds fun! are you shy about posting the link?
-
Being trained in microbiology, my imagination just went wild with all the possible organisms that can grow the moment you snip a whole in the bag to pour. Not to mention the cross contamination from touching the opened bag in attempts of "folding it" to "close".
dude, this is what i'm saying. but everyone has survived thus far! and i'm a hypochondriac (already mentioned and noted, i'm sure)

i'm not coping at all. i go from "ehh" to having a goddamned aneurysm.
