Finally!!!
P055UM replied to Noname93's topic in Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion
Congrats! -
A two year work history requirement is common but by no means ubiquitous. I would recommend shopping around, look at local credit unions, talk to realtors etc etc. Admittedly I don’t have a commission job but was included on the mortgage with less than six months work history. Hopefully you will be able to find a loan officer who understands your situation and can make exceptions or knows which avenues to follow. Good luck!

Medical Insurance for K1 Fiance
P055UM replied to thonati's topic in Moving to the US and Your New Life In America
Ugh as far as I know there isn’t really a good option. It is a very niche marketplace and small set of consumers. Granted I haven’t researched it in a couple years. Obamacare is out. Travel insurance is lighting money on fire. Back in 2021 I bought some short term coverage through Loomis but honestly I am extremely glad I never tried to use it because who knows if it would’ve paid. Short answer is the best way to get health insurance is to get married. If you decide to wait on getting married then that is up to you, but you at least know the risk you are taking (not to mention longer to get green card/papers etc etc) Good luck! -
Driver's License Limited Validity on CR-1
P055UM replied to Tony Wong's topic in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
Not in AZ but posed a similar question to the WI DMV a few months ago. Answer: - renew before I-751, get a new license valid to end of green card (in my case added like six weeks as my DL expired on my birthday) - renew after I-751 get an eight (yes! Eight!) year license I did the latter and got an eight year license, which is curiously valid well beyond my extension letter. I would recommend you file I-751 at the beginning of your window and then renew with the extension letter - they are coming pretty quick, mine was like two or three weeks back in Feb this year. -
I used Wise. Easy interface and low fees. Comes with a debit card too, as well as the ability to convert into a tonne of other currencies if ever needed. As for the UK residency part of closing accounts, I think many members here still maintain theirs. It’s not like they ask when you leave, and it is necessary for tying up loose ends etc

Does your phone run an eSIM? Better yet does it run two esims? Personally I wouldn’t rely on Mint in the UK - I am a Mint customer and have never got the data to work when I am abroad. Your mileage may vary as I am pretty rural in the UK. If you can run an eSIM, I’d recommend Gigsky or Nomad for data only roaming esims. Both me and my wife have used those when abroad. I don’t know how their cost compares to Mint. Or if you can run two esims, get yourself a GiffGaff eSIM when you are back. Easily enough data for a £10 top up. This is what I do now.

Use Of Advance Parole Whilst AOS
P055UM replied to Cisse913's topic in Working & Traveling During US Immigration
I wouldn’t worry. AP is a valid document to travel with. The risk of anything going wrong is low, and anything weird that did happen would be fixable. FYI: AP can take a long time to arrive after filing. Hopefully yours will be quick. -

All good advice above. Maybe check your local credit union too. I was able to get a ‘secured’ credit card. Basically you lodge cash with the bank and they extend you a credit card with a limit equal to the cash you lodged. I was able to do this with no income of my own. Another great way to build credit

I don't have a specific answer, but you're going to need to look at the laws of that state that you are planning on living in. Gambling is regulated at a state level and the laws in the US are therefore a patchwork. Remember, if you decide to keep them, interest earned will be taxable in the US even though it isn't in the UK. I imagine that you would also need to report them on your FBAR return each year.

Thanks, I was leaning this way. The other thing in my mind was upsetting someone having to scan in like 100 pages of Amex fee statements. I guess you can’t win either way!- 134 replies
