Well, this information is a lot more specific than most people get, so at least you know.

For ROC, take every piece of evidence physically coming in that indicates your shared life together, and throw it into a box.  Do the same thing digitally in a computer folder.  By ROC time, you'll have a smorgasbord of evidence to support the filing.

In addition (actually, before anything), shop for a lawyer who can draft wills, medical & financial powers of attorney, and similar estate documents.  These make superlative evidence for ROC, and they're even more crucial to have in "life."  Remember that if you move from one U.S. state to another, your Will may need to be redone.

Ok perfect. There is a SS office close to my house so we can go there this week. Preparing myself for that craziness and long wait. Haha. Yes, I was wanting his SS card before we leave to my mothers in the Panhandle for 2 weeks because the DMV in my hometown is super small and of course I know everyone. So wanted to take care of that while visiting there. So hopefully we will get the SS card before we leave on the 26th of August. Thank you so much for your kind help!

Yes, they have direct flights almost everyday from Liberia, Costa Rica to Austin. I chose that airport so he wouldn’t have to deal with the craziness in Houston. Lol

Indeed. Secondary inspection is like the cantina scene in the 1977 Star Wars movie. All kinds of strange and disturbing things there. Good decision, and ironically it added to your angst.

Agree.  Go fully prepared.  They don't cut you any slack at the Texas DPS.  I even had to take my 88 year old Mother twice for her ID a couple weeks ago because they are strict.

Smart lady!  Yes, depending on time of day, Houston IAH can be loco.  So many international arrivals come from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., for example.

As for the SSN, he has waited long enough.

    1. take him to SSA to get him an SS  card.

    2. After he has an SS card in hand, take him to DPS (if he lives in TX) to get a drivers license or state ID.

Perfect!!!   He was properly processed in.  Green Card and SS Cards should arrive within the next few weeks.

At some land ports, sometimes CBP agents serve double duty (customs & immigration).  This is the first that I'd heard about Austin's being an air port of entry, so maybe the CBP staff there is kept lean and efficient.

No it dies not happen always. Some primary inspectors are comfortable, competent, and authorized to process CR-1 visas.
That is what they would do in secondary too
    Bad and incorrect advice.

Nothing good comes from unneeded encounters with police.

Hey There! This has been very helpful. I just finished submitting my husband's documents to the NVC and I'm already stressing about how long before we get an appointment (we've been working on the process as a whole for almost 2 years ... I haven't been back to the States in 4 years and I'm ready to go!). Anyway, I see that you got an appointment about 2 months after you were approved — much better than I was thinking! My question is how long did it take the NVC to approve your paperwork after you submitted everything?

We were approved May 16 but do not have an interview date yet.
For your pre-interview is it just the applicant paperwork that needs to be presented, or also the petitioner? I’m just wondering about the need to present any original 1099s or W2s. I only have digital copies that I can print from here in CR. The rest are in the US.

Good luck with your pre-interview on Tuesday!
