Hi
Where do you guys are getting your SSN?
I have requested mine with DS-260 application.
Does it come with green card? Is there any way I can get it faster? (Agent at Seattle POE told me I may wait up until 1 year)
Many thanks
Dom
I got mine with in 2 weeks and it was a holiday too

The primary reason people are given DS5535 is because their name matches (perhaps only vaguely) with someone on their “bad guy list.” My theory is one of the reasons they ask for resumes is when that bad guy you match with has a technical education/ work history. They maybe want to check for similarities to ensure you are not the same person.
Nice job with the spreadsheet @Danii!
If the name matches a bad guy then the finger prints they collect won’t match and should clear that up. That would only take like 2 week to run it. Also for the resume that’s really strange never heard of that before or maybe they just said resume and really mean work history :s

I must say this was the easiest Poe crossing ever!!! We pulled up to the peace bridge with a 20 foot uhaul only one car in front of us. We handed our passport and the man at the window was like ok so one American and one immigrating with a giant smile. Told us I just need a stamp and the pull into any parking spot and head into door 2. We got inside and was called up to the window and was only now asked my new address. They took my photo and finger prints and said I was good to go. We made a really nice list and no one checked it and didn’t even check my uhaul... now the hard part was I had my hammy and reptiles with me so I kinda made them take the paper work for that. Sadly the fws wasn’t in so it took about 10 mins for them to sort out that. If you are bringing over any exotic pets make sure to just double check what all you need bc in some cases you may need a permit to import them. It still doesn’t feel real yet feel like I need to head back to Canada in a week like normal. Ps kinda sad they didn’t even look at my importing paper work we work so hard to do lol but I think he saw the giant folder and as like yeah they filled it out lol.

Well my husband and my journey is now at an end we crossed the peace bridge and all went smooth took about 30 mins only bc I had reprisals and a hamster.

Left the consulate and informed my spouse of the new on the phone moments ago - CO said “my visa has been APPROVED!”
I was definitely happy when I heard it but broke down when I saw my husband on video chat. Such a relief. Still a little giddy from it.
@Sharma Ali very sorry about the DS-5535… it’s so weird how they are issuing that on such a frequent and seemingly random basis. I somehow dodged the bullet (I was half expecting it today). I just hope everyone gets their approvals soon. No one deserves to be kept apart from their spouse….
I will leave a more detailed description of my experience later…
For everyone yet to interview @alphabetagamma good luck. And thanks everyone for all your good wishes. This community has been so supportive, and I am truly touched reading all the messages from you all…
Gratz!!! So glad everything went well. Are you planning to be home for the holidays?

So with that history as said before you may need a note from ur dr. If you have been clear no issues ect for 12 months one year you are good to go. “Applicants treated or hospitalized for psychiatric or mental illness or alcohol or drug abuse must present written certification including the diagnosis, duration of treatment rendered, and prognosis.” if you went to the hospital ur dr has all the past records on file. The very worst case thing that can happen is the dr may want you to go see there shrink. If you want to really dive into the background of it, it’s all on the cdc website all the steps the drs need to take ect. I mean depression is on that list too lol and I’m sure most of us waiting 3 plus years have all been threw that.

Yeah, there are people here trying to encourage others to fill WOM as soon as possible. This is a big mistake, I believe, as it comes at great cost to the applicant, does not increase the odds of success and, who knows, might even lower them for some unforeseen reason (e.g., an insolent bureaucrat pressed to make a decision will prejudice their decision for reasons of pettiness, etc). In my view, it should be used as the last resort. There is not even a good reason to believe that a court will agree one’s case passes the test after only being in administrative processing for, say, two months.
Truth if they are waiting on info from another source and it taking longer then normal and you file a wom they have what is it 30 days to respond ect if they can’t get there info that will pass you in that time from you will be denied. A wom was file for cases over seas and won only because they refused to do interview during covid also one regarding k1 visas. If a lawyer is pushing for you to file a wom they just want the money and don’t have ur best interest in mind. That being said if you been sitting in limbo for a year well filing may be an option. I think I heard of a few case way back on the day when a bunch of ppl didn’t get there i130 approved bc there was a flood at the office and paper work got lost/damaged and they filed for and expedite. But after putting on my thinking cap I think I know why so many ppl are getting the denied. They normally run background checks ect before ur interview. These past few month montreal upped the amount of interviews so they may have did quick background check to get ppl into the interview how ever there’s a flag requesting more info and to do the checks after. That way the can “clear the backlog” if they ran the full reports then they would still be months behind waiting for reports to come in.

I seen a lot of talk of wom these are very costly and I seen one lawyer talk about them in a honest sense. When you put threw a wom as they said they get x amount of days to make a choice. That lawyer said in a lot of cases it leads to flat out denials. If it a case where u are stuck in limbo and already have ur visa issued just haven’t gotten it that’s ok but when a choice needs to be made you have a 50/50 draw.

Just want to double check.... once I cross at Poe how long until I can return back to canada to visit? Sadly my mom was told today they are selling her rental and has 60 days to move.. she has lung cancer and needs all the help packing ect. I’m booked to move on the 16th of this month so I’m wondering if I could maybe fly back to canada for a week or so next month to help out.

If you have a td bank account you can open and American account get better transfer rates and a us debit card only down side is if u went to transfer money U wood need someone in Canada to approve it but that would only be 50$. But if you do a bank draft do it In is funds bc you may get hit with crazy fees from us banks
-
Speak to ur bank to see what options you have.... just make an apt with them.

When I had my interview on the 8th I over heard lots of ppl was like every other person not have there medical in. I was almost one of them but I know my dr office had to fax mine in.

I also got my passport back yesterday at 3:42 pm
my baby and I crossed the border at 5:50pm in Champlain New York. There was no one in line. I was out of secondary at 6:20
i suggest you look online at CBP border wait times, it tells you what it looks like depending on POE.
good luckI’m going to have my hamster and reprisals in the car so I’m worried about them being stuck in the uhaul for a long time... cold isn’t a good thing for them

Good luck to everyone waiting on their ILs!
We’re getting ready for the move to the US. I’m so jealous of those that can just get up and move right after they receive their passports!
We’re still trying to figure out the logistics.
- does the US allow mattresses to be imported? I know that Canada requires the incoming mattress to be cleaned and fumigated with a certificate but I haven’t been able to find anything for mattresses going into the US.
- are we allowed to leave the US after entering? How long do we have to wait before traveling back to Canada?
- is anyone moving with a moving company? Any good recommendations?
Thanks in advance!Mattresses are good to go from what I saw.. upack is ur best bet fornprice wise. Or uhaul if ur ok with driving

I can't comment specifically about your question, but my understanding is that you never get double taxed for Canada USA taxes because of tax treaties.
That said, tax rules are different between USA and Canada and there are a number of nuances that show up when you cross the border for resident purposes. One example that I learned after I moved to USA (I was previously there on H1B) is your TFSA is no longer able to grow tax free while you are in USA. I learned that one the hard way as I first moved after the stock market had a big dip, meaning that my TFSA was at a relatively lower value when I entered the USA. When the markets recovered, and my TFSA returned to it's pre crash value, it was seen as a taxable increase. So while my TFSA was truly back to zero change, it came with a big tax bill.
I don’t have one of those lol. So safe there
