Hi everyone! I have my interview coming on Monday, I think I'm prepared but I was trying to look for an aos interview checklist somewhere on this site just to make sure I have everything I need. Could someone link me? I'm adjusting from a K-1.
Good luck to everyone still waiting! ❤ I know I'm one of the lucky ones

That's awesome!! Congrats. Did you include your DS-3025 with your initial AOS package?
Hoping everything goes smoothly from this point forward!!
Yes I did, and I very stupidly sent the original and forgot to make a copy of it 😬 lol so I'm going to call the place that did my medical exam back in London to try and get a copy before my interview

Can’t help feeling slightly jealous and frustrated about the DC field office and Alexandria ASC being so slow. No biometrics appointment or nothing yet. No progress on my case since I got the NOAs. Patience is key... patience is key...
Good luck to you, I recognise I am extremely lucky to be getting my interview so soon, I wish everybody else strength and best wishes in their wait! ❤

This is great. Congrats and good luck! Have you applied for EAD/AP?
Thank you! And yeah I applied for EAD with my AOS packet and then applied for the AP a few weeks later.

Holy (removed) it says my I-485 case is ready for interview to be scheduled as of August 19th! I just had my biometrics appointment on August 13th. How long does it take to get an interview date normally?? I wasn't expecting anything any time soon, I'm going to have to read up on everything I need to do to prepare

Your name change document is your marriage certificate. You don't need to apply for the change at SSA. What happens is that most places will require you to update your SSN first before updating everywhere else. You can use your new name as soon as you got your marriage certificate.
So when you applied for SSN, they only used your married name for the SSN. Your married name won't be in the system until your EAD or green card is approved, so there's no way DHS can verify it.
Anyway, now you will need to wait for you EAD to apply for SSN again.
Yeah now that I know I can at least get health insurance I'm not too upset about having to wait for my SSN, still unfortunate tho, I wish I'd known about the maiden name thing earlier

That was the issue. You should've applied with your maiden name. Your married name isn't in any system, so DHS won't be able to verify your new name and that's why you never received anything.
Ah okay that kinda makes sense. Although I wouldn't have thought it would be an issue because I applied for the SSN with both new name and my maiden name (in pa you change name just by getting a new social security card under that name, so essentially I was applying for the name change as well as SSN), and all of my immigration documents I sent them had my maiden name so I would have thought DHS wouldn't have trouble verifying them. Oh well whatever happened I'll just have to wait now.

* Moved from AOS from K-1 Visas to SSNs forum *
It is evidence of your period of authorized stay. Your legal status ends at the 90 day mark still.
If DHS is unable to complete manual verification before 76 days from entry (90 days legal status - 14 days left of status required for the SSA to issue an SSN), you will need to wait for an EAD (or the green card itself if that comes first) to qualify for an SSN again.
Sure you can - an SSN is not required for insurance. It is actually explicitly prohibited by the ACA to require one.
That said, many times the staff may not be aware of this and you have to go hunting for somebody who knows how to input it into their system without an SSN. Sometimes they will use a placeholder SSN (like all 0s, all 9s, etc.) until you get your own SSN.
Well that's good that I can definitely get health insurance, thank you! 😄 Although, it is frustrating I can't get a social security number for now since I did apply in plenty if time before my I-94 expired, but oh well can't help the coronavirus delays, the insurance is the important thing.

I applied for the SSN three weeks after I arrived, we got married pretty much as soon as I arrived so that I could apply for my SSN with my new last name. It just took much longer than could have been expected because of the coronavirus and everything.

So I applied for my social security number back in early April pretty much as soon as I got my marriage certificate back from the court house. I applied under the immigrant not authorized to work category and provided my passport with K1 visa and admission stamp, my (at the time) current I-94 and even a page from the social security administration website stating that K1 immigrants are eligible for a social security number, because I've read that some of their employees don't know.
Despite all this, two weeks after I sent the application I got a letter saying that they sent my case to DHS for verification of my immigration status and it would take up to four weeks. Much more than 4 weeks went by and I didn't hear anything so I contacted the social security office and they said my case was still waiting for verification from DHS but my I-94 had just expired so I would now need to get new evidence of my legal immigrant status.
I just received my notice of receipt from my I-485 AOS application (finally, after a while month), so does this count as my proof of legal immigrant status now? Can I send this to the social security office to get a social security number? I can't find anything online specifically stating that.
I'm starting to freak out because I haven't been able to be enrolled on my husband's Tricare without a social security number so I've not had any health coverage this whole time and I have a chronic health condition so really need to see a doctor as soon as I can. I really can't wait until my EAD is approved. I did everything I could to make sure I got this social security number before my K1 admission expired and now I don't know what to do.

How did you go about applying for a SSN? Do you have an employment authorization EAD?
No EAD, I applied for the social security number under the immigrant not authorized to work category. I sent in my passport with my K-1 visa and admission stamp, a copy of my online I-94 admission certification, my marriage certificate and even a copy of the page on the social security administration website which specifies that K-1 visa holders are eligible for a social security number.
They sent me a letter a couple of weeks later saying they sent my case to DOS to verify my alien status and it might take an extra 4 weeks. Almost 7 weeks later I called the social security office because I still hadn't heard anything and they told me my case was still at DOS waiting to be verified but my I-94 had just expired so I wasn't eligible for a social security number anymore. I was pretty annoyed as I had sent them everything they needed to verify my legal alien status without them having to send it for verification but they still sent it and now it had taken so long my I-94 expired.
It is also the reason I took so long to send my AOS application because I was waiting to have my social security number so I could have health insurance and stuff for my declaration of self-sufficiency 🙄 so now I'm in a situation where I have no proof of legal status because my NOA from the AOS is taking so long

Yes it is possible. You should have been automatically enrolled by getting you into deers. If that's not the case call again and ask to speak to a supervisor. Sometimes you need to escalate it till you get somebody who knows how things get done
Thanks so much! I'll have my husband call them up and check again

Sent my packet 06/01/20, delivered 06/03/20, cheque finally cashed 06/26/20, still no texts but I'm hoping for something this week 🤞
I really need this NOA for my social security number, I applied for that back in early April and they took so long my I-94 expired (🙄) and now they won't give me an SSN until I have this NOA from the AOS. Sucks not having health insurance this whole time! Anyone been able to get enrolled on Tricare without an SSN? I feel like it should be possible but when we called the person said I can't enrol without it.

I've tried both of those...exactly as you have written...and I get nothing but a page that pops up explaining the various methods of contacting USCIS. Doesn't link me to any live chat...
Hmm strange, I just tried them again too and it's not giving the me live chat option now, maybe it only works certain hours?

Well I checked the status of the money order we send with our petition (received June 4th) and it hasn't been cashed yet...
Still no response from lockbox support either.. ughNothing for me either, on the online chat with an agent yesterday they said I had to wait 30 days and contact them again 🙄 still haven't gotten anything from lockbox support tho maybe they'll be more helpful

I'm curious...what did you ask Emma to get to an online rep?
The information I got from Emma just said to wait 30 days then email the lockbox...there was never any other contact information given. Please explain further....
You can just say "live chat" or "talk to agent" and Emma should put you right through, it worked for me when it was the very first thing I said

Hi Guys !
We sent our AOS package on the 2nd of June, it was received on the 4th.. but no NOA since then .. I am a bit worried so I wanted to check if anybody has been in that situation, is it normal? should we wait or call?
We sent a money order no check so I can't rely on that to see if it's being processed or not..
Thank you!!
LisaWe sent on June 1st and it was received June 3rd, still no NOA or money taken out so you're not the only one!

Based on the instructions if you had submitted proof of citizenship with the K1 process then you dont need to submit again. You can double check the instrucrions for the AOS if this is correct.
Thank you, I hope this is correct! I couldn't find where it said that in the instructions but hopefully!

Hello! 🇬🇧 lol, I hope we both hear soon! I'm worried I missed a couple of things and that might be messing it up 😰 I wonder how long I should wait before I try and contact them

Hey guys! I sent the application June 1st and USPS says it was delivered June 3rd, still no money taken out. I sent the EAD application with it but not the advance parole, I'm freaking out now because I only put two passport photos in, I totally missed where it said they need two passport photos for the EAD too? Is this going to mess me up?? ☹️
Oh man I've also just realised I forgot to put my husband's proof of US citizenship for the affidavit of support!😰 will those create an RFE?? Or could I just bring that stuff for the interview? Aw man I checked everything 5 times over before sending it but I still missed stuff I suck 😩

Hello all! I had my AOS interview on October 5th and eventually received my card October 31st!! I didn't get a definite approval at the interview so I had been waiting anxiously for weeks. Not sure when my approval notice arrived as I hadn't checked the mail in a few days so I just found it in there with the card lol, but it was dated October 23rd 😄 I finally got around to updating my timeline today, just moved house this weekend so it's been busy.
So excited!! I hope everyone else is seeing progress in their cases, things have been unduly difficult for many of you. Best wishes to all and good luck for your cases ❤
