I think it’s very possible that it would result in more refusals at time of GC interview, since the petitioner couldn’t possibly support them all on an average wage, especially if entry to them came without EAD.. i foresee a lot of financial hardship

I am curious about this too. I have seen more than one poster here who has filed petitions for upwards of a dozen family members (parents and many siblings). The siblings also have spouses and children. Will these “temporary visas” allow them to work? Without the public charge rule in place I foresee dozens of family members arriving on day one without adequate housing, lack of financial support. This will lead to people living in overcrowded conditions and place a strain on resources such as schools and medical care.

I have four siblings, all married, and between them they have 9 minor children. That’s 17 people. Does he seriously think it’s right for the country and for the immigrants to add 17 people to a 3-bed 2-bath home, in an area of higher-than-average unemployment and without verifying that I even make enough to feed them all?

Actually yeah they have. It's was routinely around 9-12 months even as far back as 2013. So the addition of more petitions and a pandemic has only made the timeline longer. Also the N400 is dependent on your local office for example down here in Raleigh is around 6 months while up there in NYC it is much longer than that.

Don't assume that your case is the same thing as everyone else's. Also don't complain about how long your AOS took when you did a I130/485 at the same time.

The public charge rule has always been on the books even before Trump

Not sure how trumps the cause of people with PD’s as far back as 2010 not yet having their GC but ok... did it occur to you that each year more and more people are applying for immigration benefits and that that might be one reason as to why things have slowed....  what about the fact that USCIS isn’t actually a government run service that it’s paid for by applicant and that congress (not trump) refused to provide them with covid financial relief in addition to stopping them from increasing fees that would of helped them keep staff and/or hire more staff to help with processing applications? Nope, just trumps fault 🙄

I just wish for Biden/Harris presidency actually comes up with an effective immigration reform plan and actually execute it for everyone, dreamers, undocumented immigrants, asylum seekers and fix the USCIS slow down, which came to be with Trump, he was the cause of this ridiculous wait times. Never in the history of immigration processes, did a i485 take 18 months or n400 24 months...EVER. I  be am very hopeful of the new presidency and we also need to understand it’ll take time to try and mend the brokenness Trump is leaving behind 🙏🏽 I have very strong hope for the country I love and left everything behind for 🙏🏽

Yeah, but many sponsors have multiple petitions that could potentially come due at different times depending on when i130 was submitted e.g. parents and siblings ... if all of a sudden they all get the ok to come live in the country that’s a significant financial commitment if these people are still awaiting GC or EAD... and if they’re given EAD that’s a massive influx of people into the job market... the other scary thing is if or not Biden is for letting new immigrant or whatever they’ll be classed as on to public benefits since public charge will be killed off under him... now the tax payers are supporting them

While these things sound good...they amount to window dressing when the core issue remains that USCIS fails in conducting the most basic functions of thier mission each and every day.

There’s an awful lot of approved I-130 petitions out there without gc issuance (millions) .... that’s a massive influx of migrants with no public charge rules attached... some people have severely petitions pending gc how the heck petitioners meant to financially support them in them while waiting gc..... EAD? Lots of completion for jobs at a time when many Americans hurting

I think it’s long overdue, it simple immigration isn’t a right. People need to be prepared for the cost and don’t expect the host country foot the bill. If you want to be mad at anyone be mad at the people who caused this issue, if you moving a family member and don’t factor in their age, you pocket and ability to provide for them in an emergency you should be held responsible.

Wow I’m done- there’s no reasoning with some people and I’ll leave out my choice set of words. This post was created because someone felt it was wrong to finally enforce an enforceable document; pretty laughable to get upset with.  As a petitioner, you knew this was required to bring your family member over and if you couldn’t/wouldn’t/won’t abide by it then don’t sign it. There are two countries in every international relationship; so there is always another choice if you don’t want to abide by US immigration rules; no one is stuck.

I still don't see your point. They can collect unemployment benefits like everyone else . Husbands the immigrant and he lost his job. I'm the American and am the essential employee. My husband isn't collecting welfare because he lost his job. I have a responsibility to provide for him because I signed the contract. It's funny people only have an issue with it now that it's being enforced. If you can get away with breaking the law when it's not enforced you will but when you break the law and get caught people now have an issue.

It targets those that have broken the law. Plain and simple. Don't sign a contract if you can't agree to the terms.

Based on your thinking then you'd be fine with "tons of US citizens" AND tons of immigrants on disability for fake reasons. There needs to be a line drawn somewhere. Immigration isn't perfect, nothing in life is perfect but people need to be held accountable. Don't sign a contact if you aren't willing to agree to the terms of it. You have no one to blame but yourself.
May I ask why did you and your spouse decide NOT to immigrate to Lebanon?

Based on this and previous posts you seem to be the one uninformed. You need to look at facts and not others opinions and put your opinion aside to review the facts. US citizens can petition family members much easier than the majority of the rest of the world can. Immigration anywhere is not a right it is a privilege that comes with stipulations such as the petitioner making sure they immigrant can supported by the petitioner, not the entire US population.  Yes, it will be harder for some than others to bring certain family members here. But again, why should I have to support someone you CHOSE to bring to this country? Should there be no requirements for immigration and whomever wants to come to the US is entitled? I mean there has to be guidelines to follow and not everyone will like them but you will never find 100% consensus for anything in life.

I have already prepared for unexpected concerns...My wife will NEVER have to ask for public assistance..........as should other sponsors should prepare.    Why should my wife take money out of the pocket of other taxpayers?

The American taxpayer should not be responsible for paying for what you "want".......If you sign an I-864, then YOU are responsible.  Not other taxpayers.

Wrong again.  It is not required that anyone agrees to be a sponsor.  It is completely voluntary.  I can think of a handful of people I'd be willing to do this for.

I am firm on my opinion that enforcing the I-864 is a good thing for taxpayers.  I see no reason to "rethink" my opinion.  If you disagree, OK.   Anyone who signs an I-864 without knowing the consequences is not a wise person.
