It looks like from March 9 we don’t need to submit I-944. Is what is saying on the site :

On or after March 9, 2021, applicants and petitioners should not provide information required solely by the Public Charge Final Rule. That means that applicants for adjustment of status should not provide the Form I-944, Declaration of Self-Sufficiency, or any evidence or documentation required on that form with their Form I-485. Applicants and petitioners for extension of nonimmigrant stay and change of nonimmigrant status should not provide information related to the receipt of public benefits on Form I-129 (Part 6), Form I-129CW (Part 6), Form I-539 (Part 5), and Form I-539A (Part 3).

This is great news as well!  Should speed things up in theory.  And like someone else said, 1 less thing to get RFI.

Hey @Sarge2155 any idea when the SSN will be issued?  Does it come back with the Employment Authorization?  Or does it come separately? earlier or later?

Just trying to do taxes and we need that SSN to file jointly.  I can file an extension of course, but I'd like to know about when to expect the SSN.  I think by October for the Employment authorization should be reasonable.  But who knows.

Sorry, i should've googled first.  but now i can't edit my post.   https://www.ssa.gov/ssnvisa/ebe.html
"You should receive your SSN card no later than 7 business days after you receive your EAD from USCIS."

Any news from your end or anyone else’s on what’s happening in Seoul? I did the State Department tracker and it read “At NVC,” so I guess the embassy hasn’t requested it.

What do we do if they expire while sitting at NVC?

We had our interview and received the visa on Dec 7 or so, you can check my timeline.  We immediately came to the US and got married before Christmas.  Now we are getting things ready for Green Card application.

I believe anything sitting at NVC will automatically get extended, so it won't "expire".  There are other threads and guides that go into details of the process on this site.  Basically, you need a letter with a current date saying you 2 still intend to get married when you go for the interview.  IIRC.

    Good luck.

Are you not doing this in person? They will not keep your documents so the thought of that happening is not true. Best place to start is here.

Our SSA office in Portland  is closed for Covid and only open by appointment.   You have to call the office directly, get their fax # and fax copies of the documents to prove you have everything they require (properly filled out application for an original SS#, passport id page, Visa page in passport,  and I94 - proof of legal entry to US, that is stapled into his passport) and then they are supposed to call to set up an appointment.

We have just done this and waiting for their call.

Yes, we have to do it in person and we called to make an appointment.  They put us on the list.  It will be 30-40 days wait for an appointment.  They will call us to schedule at a later date.  😥 So no chance to get SSN before the wedding.  Hopefully not too much trouble afterwards.  Not much we can do I guess.

  6. We got the visa on Monday (technically it was ready last Saturday but they didn't let us know 😥 ), and flew out from Seoul that night!  We've been here now for a few days and still trying to get a new place and figure out wedding and other things.  So much to do so little time!  But we are so happy to have this big step completed!

We are also trying to figure out how to get a SSN without sending in their passports.

Has there been any new news on the seoul embassy on k-visas?  I am still waiting for the nvc to send mine out and they just told me that they arent sending any applications out until the embassies tell them that they are working routine visas.

I haven't heard anything about them starting routine visa processing, but we have our K1/K2 interview in a couple weeks.  Hoping it doesn't get cancelled or something weird.  Good luck

Do not sell your house, car or property, resign from your job or make non-refundable flight or other travel arrangements until you have received your immigrant visa. Most embassies have acknowledged this in thier P3 letter and/or their website. So, buyer beware.

When your visa is issued review it to be sure there isn't any spelling errors. If there is contact the Embassy for further instructions. Keep the "do not open" pouch in the plastic and stowed away in her carryon luggage. Luggage does get lost and without the "do not open" packet it will be a difficult problem for her at immigration once she arrives at her POE.

Thanks for the reminder!  Thankfully(Unfortunately?), I sold my house and put all my stuff in storage 18m ago and have been mostly living "on the road" for a while.  My fiancee calls me Storage Man!  haha. I'll be happy to finally get back to normal after all this!  *fingers crossed*

My case updated yesterday . Its sitting at the embassy since early March 2020. Waiting for k1 interview. I hope it is a good sign! Case hasnt updated since March and now September 💚 I had no interview canceled

My case updated also.  Let's means we will interview soon!  Ours has been sitting there since March as well and we never had an interview scheduled.

I was able to book an interview for next week!!  YAY!!!

We have much to accomplish by then, but we are ready!!  It's going to be a whirlwind getting there - a 20 hour flight with 3 stops...ugh!  But I'm able to get there in time to join him for our interview!

Now to get the right Covid test - in time for the travel to be approved...  Jamaica requires the PCR test and it's not easily available here in Portland.

Does anyone else have to deal with testing and quarantining upon arrival?

Good luck to you both!  Yes, we will need to quarantine in Korea for 14 nights once we arrive so we are waiting to see when interviews begin, but also don't want them to schedule too soon.  ha.  We will go back regardless in a month and we will need to get the PCR test 72 hours before our flight as well.  I'm hoping they will let me self-quarantine with my fiancee instead of requiring me to stay at a government quarantine like most foreigners have to do.

I couldn't help but notice that you answered your own question within your post. The 90 days starts AFTER you arrive in the US not before. I concur with DOS that CR-1/IR-1 should have priority over K-1's as they are already a family. I understand your emotions but I as a realist find it easier to make this entire process much more palatable if I let the process play out.

I agree that spouse visas (CR-1/IR-1) should take precedence.  But not students.  While I understand why they restarted student visas (most likely because the school year was starting again), I would argue that now K visas should take precedence since the students are not US citizens.  Whereas the petitioner of the K visa is a citizen of the US and one would think Embassies would prioritize their own citizens first.  🤷‍♂️  oh well.  we just will wait

  12. After a few back and forth emails of them request information, Case Number, petitioner name, etc. we got the standard automated message again.

"blah, blah, when we begin normal visa processing, blah blah". I'd like to reply that "hey, Korea has a good handle on Covid and you are doing normal student visa processing, how about sneak in a few K visas?"  But I'd rather not piss anyone off over there.  :)
