Hi all. I've spent a lot of time searching for answers for these questions, but haven't been able to find them in past topics.

I have some questions for anyone that has been through the IR1/CR1 NVC process requiring a Hong Kong police certificate. Unlike most police certificates, Hong Kong says that they mail it directly to the consulate/NVC for you. Therefore, what should we include for this part when submitting our IV application/civil documents on CEAC? Just our receipt from the HK Police? Will NVC know to not expect our HK police certificate to be attached? Or do we need to mention it?

Additionally, in order to receive a HK Police Certificate, the website (https://hk.usconsulate.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/related-information/police-clearances-hk-mo/) says the applicant needs "the original and a photocopy (for each applicant) of the letter from NVC which contains his/her name and the checklist of documents necessary for obtaining a visa (the one that references the need for police certificates)"  Is the NOA2 and NVC welcome letter good enough to meet this requirement, or is another, more specific letter from NVC required?

    Thanks in advance.

    Best,

    Smoothsailing

Print a copy of the e-mail from NVC with the case number, location of interview, and the need for PCC. Send/bring it with you if you request HKPCC in person.

In my case, I used a third party so I had to make a cover letter for that.

Once you get the receipt, upload it on your CEAC account under HK PCC and write a note beside it. Tell them that it is HK’s policy that they will send it straight to the US consulate where you will have your interview. Not all officers reviewing cases know about this. I did this too. Our lawyer uploaded without explanation and it was rejected and we got delayed for additional 3weeks. I then wrote a long note beside it and was accepted.

I requested mine Feb 2019 and had my interview in Montreal Nov 2019.

  2. You will need a police check from RCMP if you are planning to have your interview in CANADA.

    Ok, thanks!

When I was in Canada last I was there for 362 days before I left for the US, which makes that I technically don't have to get Canadian police checks since the requirement is police checks for countries where you have resided for at least a year since turning sixteen.

Now, if I go there to wait the K1 out, does that add to the the 362 days (so does that make me have to get a Canadian police check), or are police checks only necessary for instances where you were in a foreign country for a year at a time?

What was your status here in Canada for that 362 days?

Tourists are only allowed 6mos? Were you on student visa or temporary work?

I was on your side until I read this comment. You are quite right that there’s no need to get a 30-year mortgage at 45 if you live in a perfectly adequate place, etc.

You are not doing her a favor by bringing her here. I do hate that arrogant attitude from the USCs who seem to think that we foreign spouses should be eternally grateful and indebted to you because you “rescued” us from our home lands and “gifted” us a better life. Ridiculous. She sounds like she is very self-sufficient with her own career. She owes you nothing. If this is a genuine marriage then bringing her here is just as much for your benefit as it is hers.

Its almost as bad as the immigrants that say “I gave up everything to come here for him/her”. No, you did not. You made a life change that you BOTH wanted and so that you could BOTH live with the person you love. You do it for yourself as much as you do it for the other.

Shes probably better off without you if that’s your attitude.

Sounds to me that you live in the old ages and she is better off without you. You're 45 and you act like a child. She is a strong independent woman and she doesn't need you. Stop thinking that you are saving her.

It’s pretty cliche, but I think more people need to adhere to the idea of marrying someone for who they are, not who you want them to be or see them becoming.

If you think it’s wrong of her to expect you to work with it being hard on your body, your should probably do some looking into how hard pregnancy and childbirth can be on your body. That’s absolutely not something to force on someone who is unwilling. Not to even mention the responsibility of having a child.

I don’t really blame her for not wanting to bring a new person into the world with someone who is willing to just cancel a visa after 2 years of marriage.

We got the SS card in 10 days and Green Card in about 3 weeks.  This was fast but may have been because we waited a few months to go through POE after receiving the visa and paid the fee upon receiving the visa. It may or may not have helped.

Hi! May I know what was your POE? We just got the visa but planning to enter POE March nxt yr. Shld we pay the GC now or is it too early? Thank you

Just to add what others have said, you will want to tell the CBP officer you are speaking with that you have been married for two years and are entitled to IR-1 status (have your marriage certificate handy).  If for some reason you do not receive the proper Green Card, you would then file an I-90 with no fee to have the correct card issued.

Hi @Ryan H I have a question regarding the payment of GC. We are aware that we can pay it before entering POE but what if I will be entering in March and the issuance of visa is Nov 20? Should  we pay the GC fee now, 4 months prior to my entry date? Is it too early? Thank you very much!

It took me a hot minute to realize what you mean by IL.

Does NVC not call it packet 4 anymore? (p4) because that's how our timelines are written on VJ and how it's traditionally been called.

I picked  up IL, CC, DQ from

members here last April when I signed up hahaha!

I was also confused about packets then.

I am not sure but I only received an e-mail for my interview and there is no part on the e-mail that says packet 4. I guess that’s why other members call it now interview letter (IL)?

I just got my passport back with visa yesterday and we also don’t have the sealed packet anymore for POE.

    Here is mine:

The National Visa Center (NVC) completed its processing of your immigrant visa application and forwarded it to the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General, where an immigrant visa interview has been scheduled. Appointment information is located at the bottom of this email.

    Important Information:
You submitted forms and supporting documents to the NVC in electronic form. You must present the original forms and documents for review by the consular officer during your interview.

Please promptly read and follow all Interview Preparation Instructions located on the Department of State's web site at: https://nvc.state.gov/interview.

Important information regarding the required medical appointment is also listed on this site. Failure to promptly follow all instructions provided on this site will result in your immigrant visa being refused at the initial interview.

You should present this letter upon arrival at the Embassy/Consulate General.

Those members of your family, named below, must appear at the Embassy/Consulate General on the appointment date.

What To Do if You Cannot Keep the Appointment:
Some Embassies/Consulates General reschedule interview appointments themselves; others utilize an outside service provider to reschedule appointments. To determine the proper procedure for rescheduling your interview appointment, please go to the Department of State's web site at: https://nvc.state.gov/interview, under "Step 2", select your interview location from the dropdown and click "Download PDF" and follow your Embassy/Consulate General's instructions listed under "Contact Information" on the right.

    Reminders:

    • Read and follow all interview instructions located at https://nvc.state.gov/interview.
    • Bring this letter to your medical examination because the panel physician may need to review it before performing the examination.
    • If a sponsor filed an I-864 (Affidavit of Support) AND provided the NVC with proof of an IRS Federal Income Tax Extension in lieu of a Federal Income Tax Return, you must upload this to CEAC or bring the sponsor's most recent Federal Income Tax Return to the visa interview.
    • Failure to present all necessary documents to the Consular Officer will result in your immigrant visa being refused at the initial interview.

    Questions:
The National Visa Center has completed its processing of this case and any further inquiries should be addressed to the U.S. Embassy, Consulate General, or Diplomatic Mission listed below. When communicating with the Embassy/Consulate General by e-mail, letter, or fax, always refer to your name and case number exactly as they appear.

Nice, how was your interview ? Was it in Montreal? How long did u wait to get the interview? So many questions! Sorry !

    Yes. Montreal CR1/IR1.

The interview is quick and easy. Just verifying things on documents you submitted and details about you and spouse. If you go to Canadian consulate reviews, you will read other applicants experience.

Over 5 months from documentary qualified (June 3) to interview day (Nov 18)

It's safe.  Immigrating after your 2nd wedding anniversary is a smart idea.  2 days is fine.

You can delay the entry without a problem. With the K1, you also get 6 months to enter after the date it is issued. My husband didn't enter until 5 months and 28 days later (2 days before expiration). No issue.

Was Toronto Pearson your POE? Thank you so much!

  12. I’ve read it before that CR1/2yr or IR1/10 yr GC is based on the date of US entry and not the date of visa issuance.

I would like to ask here to make sure this is correct.

    Marriage - March 18, 2018.

If our visa is issued today Nov 20, 2019, it will be valid until May of 2020.

Second wedding anniv will be in less than four months. With the length of ROC processing time, my husband and I are thinking to enter POE March 20, 2020 which is two days after our second wedding anniv.

    Is this safe?

Will I be questioned at POE (probably Toronto Pearson)  for delaying my entry?

Is two days after second wedding anniversary enough or shld we make it at least 5 days after?  Thank you so much everyone!

Hello! My interview is scheduled for this Thursday at Montreal. On the US government website it states that

"- A signed Affidavit of Support from your petitioner and any additional financial sponsors who submitted a Form I-864 on behalf of your visa application.  Applicants may bring photocopies and scanned versions of signed Forms I-864 and associated documents. (Please note that the form must still be signed; typed names and electronic signatures will not be accepted.)"

However, the email I received from the NVC stated "-You submitted forms and supporting documents to the NVC in electronic form. You must present the original forms and documents for review by the consular officer during your interview."

The problem is I have no idea where the originals are unfortunately and now only have the scanned copies with the signatures, the ones i submitted online. I am super nervous! Do you think this is enough? The gov website vs the email I received from the NVC is a bit contradictory and confusing so I'm freaking out. If anyone can help or has any knowledge on the matter, please let me know!

I had my interview last Monday and they did not take my AOS (original and copy) signed by my husband. Another applicant on that same day told me they did not take his AOS as well. But I suggest you print the scanned copies and bring to your interview just in case.

I had my interview today and visa was approved and issued 3 hours after my interview!

    Good luck everybody!

@Kartineecartoons@KartineeKartoons you are the next dear! 💃

Yay congratulations! Thank you but we are delayed again! Can you believe it? After almost 5months of wait,  Im supposed to have it on Friday Nov 8 but we received an email last week saying we have to be rescheduled because they are moving location. Lol! Guess they decided to move the whole embassy 1 week before our scheduled interview. It’s not a funny joke. Montreal is a disaster. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤓
