  1. Can anyone share their experience with POE recently at Toronto Pearson Airport? I know that some people have notified the POE beforehand to inform that they were going to be crossing with their visa but wondering if anyone has done this for the airport? Also if there are any helpful tips I would greatly appreciate it. Travelling with a baby and would like to be as prepared and organized as possible.

Hey everyone, I've been reading here on VJ about questions they ask at the interview in Montreal. Question regarding: "have you ever been refused entry at the boarder?"

In march 2020 I tried to cross the land boarder. I didn't know at the time it was closed because of Covid,  and I was turned around. They never looked at my passport or any documents and I never entered the USA. I'm sure they have my car plates documented. Would  I have to disclose this if they asked me at the interview?

I would just be honest, but I doubt that it was noted as a denial at the border.

During my interview I was asked and I was honest and told them that in May 2020 I attempted to cross however was denied because I was deemed non-essential and a visitor. The Consulate Officer said that it was a “COVID attempt” and that they did not even document it and do not count those.

  3. Hi everyone!

For those who have recently been approved and received their immigrant visas and were tracking on CEAC, was there another status update after the one pictured below before you received notification that your passport was on its way back to you?

Just trying to estimate how long it will be until I receive mine back.

Congrats on your appointment. Did they ask for the 2019 tax transcript or did you just give it to them? Because I have the w2 and 1040 but not the transcript

Thank you! They actually asked me for it after I gave them the 1040 and W2. I’m not sure why because it’s not listed as a document to bring, I just happened to have it with me. I know not everyone has been asked for one.

I can’t help but worry ever since the Consulate said they don’t have my husband’s medical results. I really hope they keep the Consulate open and we don’t have to wait much longer for his visa to be issued. I also hope they don’t forget about him LOL. This process has me VERY on edge 99.9% of the time. For all my folks that had medical result delays, do you have any update on movement/visa being issued? I know there was a handful of us!

Unfortunately not. I keep checking my status on CEAC since my interview in hopes that the Consulate received my medical exam and it’ll say issued. I hope those of us awaiting the receipt of our medical exams hear good news very soon!

  6. Hi everyone, just following up from my previous post and providing details of my interview yesterday. Everyone who posted their experiences has been so helpful to me and I hope that mine can help out those who’s interviews are coming up as well.

My interview was scheduled for 8:00am. I stayed at the Hotel Birks the night before. The hotel was about a 7 minute walk to the Consulate and that too an easy one, down the same street. I arrived probably around just after 7:50am. The Consulate is located in the same building as an RBC and directly across the street from an Aritzia, Little Burgandy, and Michael Kors. There’s also two giant nutcrackers on the street right now which is helpful in locating the building. The doors to the Consulate were locked, but a Security Guard noticed me from inside and directed me to form a line up against the side of the building. He then proceeded to call me in about five mins later and checked my passport before directing me to go through Security. After security, I was directed to go to the first floor using the elevator and to go to windows 4, 5, or 6 when available.

When I arrived, there was one person sitting down and a couple of people at the windows. It’s important to note that if there’s other people sitting and no windows available, you have to note your turn and then approach one of the windows when it’s available. Many people who came in were unsure and there’s no sign indicating what to do. I also noticed that the security guard who sits near the waiting area was also not consistent in letting everyone know what to do when they arrived so many were confused.

I went up to a window when it was my turn and they asked for a passport and informed that I would be called up to provide my documents. Shortly after I was called up and asked to provide my address for where I will be living in the US and also my current address in Canada.

I also was asked to provide the following:

    - Original Birth Certificate (I had both long and short but was asked for long)

    - Original Marriage Certificate

    - Husband’s 2019 tax return (Form 1040), W-2, and tax transcript

    - One passport sized photo

    - Police Certificate

    - I-864 Form

*Both my Police Certificate and I-864 form were updated from the ones that I originally uploaded, I didn’t upload the new ones prior to the interview and just provided the individual with the updated ones

After waiting for some time, I was called up to a window for the interview. I was asked the following:

    - Who is the petitioner?

    - When and where did you meet your husband?

    - Details about our wedding (when, where, who attended)

    - What does your husband do for a living? Where does he work? Where is his work located?

    - What do you plan to do after you move? What work will you do?

    - Have you ever been arrested or charged?

    - Have you ever been denied entry to the US and/or turned around?

    - Where have you travelled to in the last five years?

As mentioned in my previous post, I was then informed that they did not receive my medical exam and that they weren’t able to approve me today. I was given a 221g form that stated “pending medical exam”. The individual who interviewed me asked to keep my passport as this was normal and that once the medical exam was received, they could issue the Visa and send my passport back to me.

I left the Consulate just before 9:30am. Hoping my medical exam is received soon!

  7. Hi everyone!

I was hoping to be more excited to write this post upon my return from my interview this morning, however I was denied and given a section 221g form as my medical exam is still pending to be received.

I had my medical exam with Dr. Zatzman on November 19th and received an e-mail on November 24th stating that it had been submitted to the eMedical system.

When I was interviewed today, I was told that it did not appear to be received. When I informed of when I received the e-mail confirming it was submitted, the individual checked again however said there did not appear to be anything. I was told that it wasn’t abnormal and that it could take some time for my medical exam to be received. They kept my passport and said that I would be informed via e-mail when it was on its way back to me.

I know that some on here had the same situation. Just wondering if anyone had the same happen for a similar length of time as me? I thought the Consulate would have received the exam a good amount of time prior to my interview today.

I’ll be writing a detailed post about the process and questions asked in a bit.

  8. Hi everyone! Congratulations to everyone who’s been approved and good luck to all those with interviews coming up!

My interview is coming up and I’m preparing for it. Everyone who has posted their experience at their interview has been so helpful in giving us an idea of what to expect!

My question to those who have been interviewed already, when you were asked how long you’ve stayed in the US and/or if you’ve ever overstayed in the US, were they referring to the amount of time you’ve stayed in the US in a single trip or in a year (calendar or rolling)?

A notary public can certify photocopies of original documents, yes.

No exactly the same scenario so take this information as it’s appropriate... I had to submit a “certified true copy” of my Canadian passport to submit with my taxes. I had it done at the closest Canadian embassy/consulate where I was abroad.

For that particular purpose, a notary public  wasn’t sufficient because the document had be validated by the issuing agency specifically. But that was a very specific requirement.

Also true. For IRS purposes, a certifying acceptance agent must verify and copy someone's non-US passport for submission with an ITIN application.

Thank you so much @Hawk Riders @wordsfromdani for the helpful information!

I have an appointment for my son’s American passport at the US Consulate in Toronto. My husband will not be able to attend and their website states that a certified copy of the ID is needed but doesn’t specify any additional details. I’ve tried contacting them as well.

I think I’m just going to go ahead with having my husband get a copy certified from a notary public and hope for the best!

  10. Hi everyone! I know this is off topic, but I’m hoping someone in this thread knows because I’m having a hard time finding out correct information.

Does anyone know how you can get a certified copy of an American Passport? The passport agency has an option to request passport records but not a certified copy. Is this something I can obtain from a notary public?
