I wandered into the Russian forum once and got kalashnikoved. They seem very prickly about people thinking they are taking advantage of the bootiful Ruski ladies by using economic levers. If more American ladies sought Ruski chaps then it would cure those perceptions, but somehow it doesn't seem to work like that. I am not casting nasturtiums, just naming a perception that everyone is acutely aware of and which I didn't invent.

I think Julien and Alex are gay. I'm allowed to have that opinion.
In all seriousness I did have some sympathy for Melissa a little while ago but now I think she deserves all she gets. She should dump her homosexual fiance and move on with her life. From everything I've read from her so far (here and her blog) he doesn't exactly seem to make her very happy.
ETA. If this were about you Maven things would be very different because you are my friend in real life. Melissa isn't.

Oh please. I like cute photos as much as the next girl, but Robin's (Trompe's) point is getting lost and twisted. She was referring to the sheer number of threads and making a comparison between two posters' propensity (at different times) to post high levels of new topics. She never brought content into the mix. I'm sorry if that's too difficult for people to understand. Furthermore, I hardly believe it is Robin who has "followers" that are jumping to her defence just because she got a couple of +1s -- just look how all of a sudden we have people defending poor Amby's honour from mean, mean Robin. Seriously, I think there's a mirror in your bathroom. Go have a look in it and report back on what you see.

The comment was about frequency, not content. I rarely even read off topic any more, so I don't even know what button I have inadvertently pushed.

I also mentioned Paul & Vanessa starting a lot of threads and compared it to someone who used to do it. It is a mere statement of fact but you seem hellbent on turning it into something else.

Calm down people! Amby used to start numerous threads - I remember logging in one morning and every single thread in OT had been started by her. Then I log in this morning and P&V has started practically every thread. It was an observation, that is all!

I don't go into OT that much anymore because I really don't need to read another iteration of the same threads about illegal immigration, Obama and what not, but is Paul & Vanessa the new Amby there? Every morning I have checked in there at least 1/3 of the threads have been started by him/her.

I think you are my VJ hero today, Johnny.
For the love of god, yes. The level of unabashed f^cktardedness seems to be rising on a nearly daily basis. Even if giving a "-1" gave pleasure only to the one who doled it out, it would be deeply satisfying.
Campaign to Bring Back the "-1" rating starts NOW.
Edit to add: And while we're at it, bring back rebeccajo, who I believe was a completely self-contained "-1" system unto herself.
Edit to add redux: Fixx0red atrocious grammar in the addendum; I got the case all wrong. Oh, the shame.

I read the divorce and effects forum a lot, and when someone new comes in there, the same q's are always asked. Of course, nothing new there, but the Q's are 'can I send him/her back?' 'can I get out of my affidavit of support' etc.
I know when peeps are filing for a fiance/spouse, they are all blinded by love and giddy, but I think this trend is showing that many enter into these things not knowing what they're signing up for legally. It's just a suggestion that a sticky be put somewhere - maybe in the K1, k3 section, to let people know, if all goes to sh!t, it's not a question of returning the merchandise with a 20% restocking fee.

You were wrong, I told you so, people who came along and read your incorrect info, would see in that same thread, relatively near by, that the information was incorrect. Since this isn't a board about immigration to Ireland, and in both cases your response was a tangent from the OP, I didn't go in to any further detail. For your information, and from your own link:
You can find further details about the application that is required from the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service.

I am a 100% firm believer in a marriage having joint accounts only. I absolutely do not want money hidden, or the inability to know what is going on is various accounts. We've discussed it and we will have an account here and in Scotland for when we go back on trips, or in case he has to go over for an emergency.

Exactly where did you get this information? It is categorically wrong. You would do well not to spread your misinformation around this board. A non-EU family member, wishing to remain in Ireland based on their family relationship to an EU Citizen must apply to the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service and furnish an application. This is a very similar application to one that someone would provide in the same circumstance in the UK.

Ewok, if we are going to keep the per-post moderating system, I'd like to suggest that you enable per-post moderation on moderators and organizers. If moderators are going to "take off their moderator hats" to participate in normal conversations, then I think it's only fair that their posts are subject to the same community moderation as everyone else's.
I personally would rather we just ditch the per-post moderating system, but if we're going to keep it then let's do it for everyone.

If you are sending and receiving immigration advice via pm, you are not only doing it wrong but you're exposing yourself to a lot of risk. The great thing about these forums is that if somebody puts something out there that's incorrect, it's very likely to be corrected by somebody else, often within minutes. If you get that same info via pm, then you lose that.
I agree that there are some pretty rude people out there who are rude for no other reason than to just be condescending jerks. (*cough*pushbrk*cough*) I don't know why this is, possibly they're trying to compensate for their own shortcomings.
Then there are those of us (and I include myself) who are rude to specific individuals for a number of different reasons. People handing out immigration advice who have no business handing out advice is one of my pet peeves, for instance, and it's been my experience that if you try to correct them nicely, they just keep doing what they're doing, often telling you to stfu. So rudeness seems to be the only thing that gets through to these people.
The other kind of person I don't mind being rude to is the type of person who judges somebody else's situation or relationship, rather than provide help. The "your fiancee was stupid and selfish for overstaying her visa for 30 days so you'll just have to live with the consequences" type crowd. These people deserve ridicule and scorn.
You also deserve ridicule and scorn if you ever once post a variation of "that's easy for you to say, your spouse is already in the states with you." Seriously, people who post that need to die of cancer in a fire. Because all it does is drive away the experts who have gone through this process and have sometimes years of experience that could be beneficial. Just because somebody went through this a year ago, 5 years ago, or whatever, doesn't mean they don't know what you're going through. Listen to their advice or not, but don't dismiss their experiences as irrelevant just because they're on the other side of the line.
Last point: sometimes people come across as rude when they don't mean to be. It's either just the way they are, or that they're skipping the niceties to get to their point. Emotions and attitude are hard to convey in text, even with VJ's cornucopia of emoticons. Give people the benefit of the doubt first, unless it's completely obvious.

First, let me just say that visually the new VJ is quite pleasing, very "web 2.0." Nice job, the hard work shows. The bugs are a little annoying right now (especially reading history not carrying over between computers) but I'm confident they'll be worked out in time.
The reputation system, however, is a terrible, terrible idea. All it's going to do is turn Visa Journey into a less fun version of Mafia Wars. The fact that you can only mod a certain number of posts per day won't stop anybody, but it *will* encourage cliques to mob-mod, as well as encourage sock puppet creation.
Please drop the reputation system. The good that comes from it will be completely overshadowed by the bad.

There is no TOS violation or anything even close in my post. It's not argumentative in the least. It is an explanation of the facts posted to assist any reader with interest in setting appropriate expectations. Your reply, on the other hand is off-topic and inappropriate as well as designed to upset, antagonize and instigate and argument that takes away from the personal enjoyment of the Service by others. As such your post, IMO, IS in violation of the TOS.
