    Hi everyone,

Many apologies if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find it. I just completed my N400 + I751 combo interview on May 12th and the officer told me after my N400 that he noticed I had an I751 pending and said he doesn't have the file but could do the interview. My husband was waiting outside and I asked him if he wanted me to call him in and he said that wasn't necessary. So he completed my interview (what I'm doing, where we met, if we have kids etc) and then said that he has to put in a request for the I751 file to be sent to his office but I passed my N400 and I wouldn't get a green card. This is all fine, and the next day I got a notice from USCIS saying that they received a request to move my file but I haven't heard anything yet. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, do you know when you found out that your oath ceremony was scheduled? Thank you!

I went for N400 interview June 13 in Fort Myers FL and was approved except I-751 file was still sitting in Potomac.  Interviewing officer said he had already requested file and I could expect a letter within a few days scheduling the oath ceremony.  (It would have been same day if he had the I-751).   I kept checking online status and could see the file was sent and oath ceremony was to be scheduled. Received a phone call exactly one week later on June 20 advising that oath ceremony was today, June 26.  Also received letter in the mail confirming ceremony date and time.   Everything went very smoothly this morning and I received my naturalization certificate.

  2. Anyone getting this message when they log in to check case status?   I’ve been seeing that since yesterday for 2 cases that are already done and then my I-751 that is in progress.   The N400 case has a status of “actively being worked on”.

Your case status is unavailable at this time. We are working to get you accurate information as soon as possible.

Current as of today at 12:58 p.m.

Let us know how it goes!! Good luck!

I filed I-751 in Aug 2021 and after NOA, nothing.  Current status is “received”.   I filed N-400 online 2 weeks ago, received NOA and status is “being actively reviewed”.   Hopefully it pushes things along.    I recently saw a YouTube video from an attorney stating USCIS is looking at current cases to try and bang them out instead of dealing with back log!

  4. I have a question about completing the N 400 and reporting days spent outside of the US. It says to report all trips over 24 hours in the last five years, but I am wondering if it is based on the date when you got your green card and became a permanent US resident if you are seeking naturalization based on the three-year marriage rule? I lived in a border city between Canada and the US and made weekly trips back and forth while we were dating going back over the last five years, but that would be a lot of trips to list, so I’m thinking it’s actually going back the 3.5 years since I got my green card in November 2019. Any thoughts or experiences on this question?  Thanks.

  5. Will be filing the I-751 paperwork for Removal of Conditions in late August.   When we married in June 2019 I did not change my surname to my husbands but going to do so soon.  We have just been waiting for Social Security offices to start allowing in person appointments again to be able to make the change.  My question is this.  Does it make sense to do the name change at the same time as filing the I-751 paperwork so we are basically killing two birds with one stone, or is it better to file the I-751 and then after that is in progress file the name change.   I believe the cost will be the same no matter what because they are going to charge for the name change separately.  Any advice is greatly appreciated.  TIA!

I guess I’m just really anxious about the whole process.. I’m always thinking that the delay has something to do with the holidays.. Did you mail yours through USPS? Thank you

I used Fedex and sent it to the street address on the USCIS website.  There is no rhyme or reason why some things happen quickly or take forever.    And it’s a waste of time and energy to call unless 30 days has passed - learned that during K1 process.    And we never got a text - only notice was NOA in mail.   Online case status was never current - always a lag of a few days to over a week with every step.  Hope you get something soon!

    Hey all,

Had the interview today. It felt like it went okay but we weren't told if there was a decision made or not at the end. My wife missed one question that was asking for info about me but I don't think it was a big deal (she honestly just forgot!).

The thing that REALLY bothered me was that we submitted quite a bit of evidence with the original packet. Join bank account statement, two separate joint credit cards, joint tax return, and 15 or so photos of us. During the interview the lady asked if we had more proof and said something like "because you didn't submit very much"...

Apparently she only looked at the first pages of the bank statements and credit cards (the mail to: section only had my name) you had to look further through the statements to see that they were joint accounts. She thought they were just accounts in my  name. This really bothered me that someone who's job it is to review these documents could miss that all of these were joint accounts...

I really wish I didn't have anything to worry about but it seems like most people that are approved are told at the end of the interview.

We weren’t approved on the spot either When we were interviewed Nov 13 (Detroit).  She didn’t even look at the proof I provided.  I explained what I was giving her as I handed it to her piece by piece and I explained a few things. Then she asked if there was anything else we wanted to provide so she could make a decision.   Very vague about everything (but we think she was in training and was doing everything by the book because someone else was in room watching her and providing coaching - and she seemed nervous). So we left not knowing anything and had to wait about 9 days before status online changed to approved.  I got GC in mail Nov 29, so a little over 2 weeks after interview.   I Couldn’t even remember my step sons middle name, only knew his initial, or his birthday!!!  Probably nothing to worry about and you should hear soon.  Good luck!

    Hi all,

I've tried to find an answer to my questions on this but my situation is a bit different so I thought I would consult some experts here :)

My spouse and I got married on Tuesday and sent I-485/I-765/I-131 packet on Thursday. I haven't changed my name yet and wanted to know if it is possible to send USCIS a name change update after submitting all of these forms, or should I wait for everything to be approved and only then change it...

In addition, I had previously stayed in the US on an A-2 visa and so I have a SSN. Should I go ahead and request the name change on SS despite sending all my AOS forms in my maiden name or just wait?

Thanks a lot for your help!

I consulted an attorney on this issue just before our marriage.  He recommended I keep my maiden name until AFTER I got my green card.  Then I could change it on everything all at once.  Just makes life a lot easier than having documents with two names, since some things like a drivers license you can’t get without the GC (at least that was my experience in Michigan).   They even asked what name I wanted on my green card at the AOS interview.  The IO said I could use my husbands last name since I planned on changing eventually but recommended staying with maiden name since I couldn’t change passport until I could return to Canada.  It costs $ to change name on GC but what’s another expense after so many fees already!😤

Hello! Have not been on for a bit been so busy with life. We just had our I485 adjustment of status interview.

    Questions asked.

    Why did we get married?

Why did we choose USA to live?

Basic questions about ourselves (birthdates, travel dates, any kids or past marriages, etc)

Lots of small talk. Whole process lasted about 12 minutes. Interviewer was very nice and made lots of little jokes.

Asked to see proof of living together and joint bank accounts and insurance. Also looked at our photos. All of them.

At the end she said everything looks good but they need to do standard checks and see if everything checks out in the computers. I asked if the interview was good and she said yes but standard procedures and we will get our answer soon by email.

But it just seems strange. No solid yes or no. No paper that some people seem to get saying review. No need of extra documents. Wondering if this is the norm.

Same thing happened to us in Detroit.  We think our interviewing officer was new because there was an observer in the room.  Seemed like she was doing everything by the book. At the end we mentioned we were hoping to have green card so I could return to Canada to see my family at Christmas and she said that shouldn’t be a problem but never gave us any indication of approval.  Interview was Nov 13, approval online was about 1 week later and had green card on Nov 29.

So I have a question, better to be safe
First, I got a notice from USPS that we have package from USCIS and is arriving today so hopefully that is EAD/AP combo card
My question is how soon can we use the card travel out of US? Is next week too soon?

Got my green card last Friday and went to Canada on Monday.   No issues at either border.    Returning to US scanned green card at reader before pulling up to customs officer booth.  he asked if we had anything to declare and that was it.  Easy and uneventful!

    Hello,  dear friends,

I wonder if anyone has info on this topic.  We had AOD interview on 11/20/19, all seemed to go decent and in good happy moods. Officer was young and nice. (office in Charlotte, NC). At the end she  said she can't make her  decision at the moment, she needs to look through  everything to  make sure all needed papers are there (I do have relatively long history of visas). She gave us paper that case is  pending and no other actions needed at this point and wait for mail within 120 days. I know it has been  just  few  days and it is kind of  common nowadays to not give  decision right in the moment and I just need to wait.

My question is - While it is pending (noone knows if it will take all 120 days)  - should I submit outside normal processing time” service request of my EAD that is now about 10 days outside  reviewed cases? Will it affect main decision or anything? Would they give it to me right now?

    Any opinions/experiences?

    Happy  upcoming Thanksgiving everyone!

Same thing happened to us in Detroit - interview was Nov 13.   We think case officer was in training because someone observed her and gave her direction at times.  All went well and at the end she said she needed to review case.   I mentioned I hoped to have my green card to go back to Canada at Christmas and she said that shouldn’t be a problem, but reminded us she had 120 days to review file.   On Nov 22 our case finally changed to approved.

Hi, hope someone can help me with this. I am trying to get online records of my fiancé arrival to the US ( I-94), but after entering all his info results come back as " no records found". I am very confused because when checking his history  records to port of entry results show the date and POE. my question is how soon after arrival to the US electronic form I-94 available online? Thank you

Same thing happened to me.  I just used the I-94 stamp in my passport and attached an explanation about not being able to get it online.  No issues with doing that and my green card was just approved last week.  So I think you’re safe to do it that way also.  Good luck.

You'll hopefully get it in no time. Ours went from Interview schedule to We sent your card in the mail.

I have heard experience from a friend that their green card took about 6 months after the interview (it's a security thing because the spouse is Libyan) but the weird thing was that they issued the green card with the interview date (two days before their two year wedding anniversary), so now they got a conditional green card, not the permanent. Very weird!

Status just changed today advising card is being produced.   Wasn’t so much worried about getting approved but was concerned that everyone else was getting theirs so quickly!

  14. Hoping someone out there cZn ease my mind on an issue.  We went to AOS interview last Wednesday (Nov 13) in Detroit.  Went very well and we have a very straightforward case so no reason to be concerned.  Case officer appeared to be new and in training as she was being observed by another case officer who was guiding her at times during the interview.  She said she would be reviewing our file and that we should hear something in 30 days. At the end of the interview  I mentioned I was hoping to be able to return to Canada for Christmas and she said that shouldn’t be a problem.  The online case status has been the same since last Thursday - interview completed and case under review.    Getting nervous because most people see their status change to approved with hours or a day or two after the interview.  Nothing in the mail as of today either.  Did anyone else experience a delay in approval?   Or receive green card in mail without online status changing first?

  15. AOS interview was this morning in Detroit at 10:30.   We arrived at 10:15, checked in and after about 5 minutes I had to go to a counter and provide my passport and appointment letter.   Clerk entered some info into computer, took my photo and checked my fingerprints to confirm it was me.  (Appeared that if you arrive too early they won’t check you in at reception- it is not a first come first serve situation but rather based on your appointment time.  They told the gentleman in front of us that he was too early and to sit in the outer waiting room and come back to reception in 15 minutes.). We went to a different waiting area and waited about 45 minutes to be called.  There were a lot of people there for interviews.  NOTE:  don’t take your phone in or turn it off and leave it in your pocket.  Several people had their phones on in the waiting room and were told to turn them off.
Let me preface the interview experience by stating our case was very straightforward with no RFE, issues or red flags - about as easy a file to process that they could ever wish for!  Also, it appeared that our case officer may have been in training as there was another case officer in the room who was monitoring the interview and offered some instruction to the interviewing officer during the interview (most of the time she was reviewing someone else’s file while she appeared to listen with 1 ear.)  Both women were friendly and very pleasant to deal with.  My husband and I were in the room together the entire time and never separated for questioning.  She basically went through the I-485 page by page confirming all the details.  The longest part of the interview was when she asked all the questions with respect to ties to organizations, do you intend to ...... while in the US, have you ever illicited or engaged in prostitution , etc..   She asked how long we had known each other (didn’t ask how we met, how often we saw each other, how and when we were engaged, or anything else pertaining to our relationship).  Asked when and where we got married (didn’t ask anything about meeting each other’s families, how often we saw them ,etc.).   Basically asked very little personal questions about the relationship.   Didn’t ask for proof of the validity of the marriage, just asked if there was anything we wanted to give her to support our case so I handed her all the paperwork dealing with joint bank accounts, medical benefits, etc., and photos.   At the end she said she would be reviewing the file and quoted the worst case scenario timelines as far as finding out if we were approved.  When my husband said we were hoping I had the green card before Christmas so I could see my family in Canada, she said oh, that shouldn’t be a problem.   So our impression was that she did everything by the book because she was in training (she seemed more on edge than we were) and didn’t want to/or couldn’t provide any other information.    So I will be checking the case status often and will update my timeline once it changes.  All in all, interview was no big deal.   We were in and out in 1.75 hours.

I'm having a last minute meltdown....my appointment is on Thursday & my attorney has given me a list of things to gather, mostly down to my unusual(& totally awful) set of circumstances....but am I missing something-what would I normally be needing to take with me in terms of documentation etc, is there a checklist somewhere please? I can't find one anywhere & I'm losing my mind!

It’s all the same docs you sent with your I-485.   Birth certificates for both, previous marriage (death and divorce if applicable) certificates, current marriage certificate, proof you are a legit married couple - pics, both names on accounts, mortgage, rental agreement, utilities, etc.   Proof of US citizens residency, including their passport.  Affidavit of support.  Absolutely nothing you haven’t already submitted.  Take originals with you if possible along with copy of everything.    Our interview is Wednesday.  Good luck!

Interesting... That's the same thing that's happening to us!! We applied for my husband SSN a few days before our wedding and we've had no luck with getting the status to verify. I know this may not help you, but I'm kind of glad to know that it wasn't just us!

I tried to open bank account in my name at husbands bank and they won’t do it until I have green card. I have a SSN that I got as soon as we were married on June 13th.   Still wasn’t enough.
