My ROC changed to "Card is being produced" on Jan 22nd (last Monday) and "Approved" on Jan 23rd. My status hasn't yet updated with the mailing details, but among those who were approved at the same time, neither has anyone else's (yes, I've been checking). They're probably doing them in batches and I expect to hear something by the end of the week, if AOS was any indication.

As others have said, with your expired GC and the extension letter, you're fine. I know you're excited to get the new card - I am too! - but just chill, it'll happen soon.

Oh good, so we have very similar dates of approval - please keep me updated when (if) you get the Card was Produced status update. I'll do the same.

Even if the card didn't arrive, you could travel with an expired Green Card along with a valid extension letter.  You are a legal resident.  No worries.

The airlines will allow you to board.  CBP will allow you to enter the US.  They will not deny entry to a legal resident.

    Thanks!

Thinking about it some more: the language in the letter is standardized, so it's very possible that it's there to deter people who just got approved for their initial 2-year card from traveling before they receive it (read: traveling with no green card whatsoever).

I'm also starting to think that an ADIT stamp functions the same as expired card+extension letter.

  3. I’m probably overreacting, indeed. I just didn’t expect to see this language in the approval notice.

The reason for my freak out is because I expected the status to change from Approved to Card was produced in just a few days (that’s what a couple of websites indicated) but it has been a week already.

I’m not overly concerned about airlines/boarding.

Travel is scheduled for March 1, so yes I do have a reasonable window in which the card should arrive (unless I’m very unlucky).

yes, I have informed delivery turned on and I’m watching it like a hawk. But first I expect to see the change in status to Card was Produced.

  4. It just seems like the complications with USCIS just never end... My I-751 had been pending since Sept 2021 until last week when it was finally approved! Great news, right? Case status changed from We Ordered Your New Card to Case Was Approved....but it hasn't changed to Card was produced yet. It's been a week.

Here is the kicker - I have international travel planned in early March. I figured it was pretty safe to travel with my expired card and the 4-year extension letter. But the approval notice explicitly says "You should not travel outside the United States until you receive your new Green Card, as you may have difficulty entering the United States"....blah blah blah...make an appointment for a I-551 stamp.

I know this is standard language, and I wonder if I could still just use my expired card and 4-year extension letter in lieu of the I-551 stamp (assuming the worst - that the new card does not arrive in time).

    Two questions:

    1) Has anyone faced a similar situation?

    2) People who have been recently approved (in the past month) - have you received your new cards yet? How long did it take for the status to change to Card Produced, and how long until the card actually arrived?

    Thanks!

Yes, I have a website that has been showing they are either approving or transferring a ton of cases per day.  In the latest report from January 10th-11th, they approved 178 and transferred 133.  I can confirm it does appear most of it is April and May 2021 with August and October 2022 being one of the higher ones being processed there after - probably because of N400 filings, even though I have seen some of those that were approvals without an N400 application.

Does this website happen to show you data for SRC?

    Thanks!

So, ours was a little weird.  It's like they forgot to enter my wife's application but entered daughter's.  Sent us NOA for daughter right away.  She had a 2131750XXX number.  After 3 weeks, they finally entered receipt of wife's application and gave her receipt number 2190293XXX.  They also gave daughter another receipt number in the 219 range.  Daughter's receipt that got approved was the 213 number, so mother was just dragged along I guess since they process them together?

Anywho, as you can see, there's no way to tell how they're doing it.   Hopefully you won't be much longer!

Thanks! Yeah, it's either that, or I'm about 1000 numbers down the line.

Got notice of card production for mother and daughter last night.  Applied 8/13/2021.  No N400 applied for.  No interview.

    29 months.

Good luck to those still waiting.

Great news! Congrats! I'm SRC filer from Sept 2021, so hopefully my turn comes soon. Was your number 2190304xxx or 2190305xxx (4 or 5, that's all I'm curious about)?

Print the Carrier Information Guide to show to airline staff if they're confused. Also, always call for manager, many of them are trained better than others on their team.

Airlines pay a lot of $$$$ if they make a mistake boarding somebody who's not eligible to enter the US. That's why they sometimes erroneously deny people not to take a risk of financial loss.

Well...save a PDF of it on your phone. Who wants to walk around with 90+ pages printed ;)

Republic of Korea (Inchon).  They specifically said they wouldn't take the extension letter if the date on the card was expired.  The embassy subsequently told me that was incorrect, but that really doesn't help.

(I just made another post about that ..)

This is incredibly frustrating. Who ever thought that it was a good idea to deputize airline employees as U.S. immigration officials? I have upcoming international travel in a couple of months and will be traveling with the expired GC and i-797 extension. I hope I don't run into issues, and if I do that I would be able to argue successfully (since the letter LITERALLY says that it extends the applicant's ability to work and travel).

  10. Hi all. Getting ready to file my N-400 online. Getting into the address section reminded me that for a period of 9 months I had two residences - I had my primary residence with my spouse, but I also had a second residence in a different town (same state) because of my work. I was spending Thursday through Monday at my primary residence, and only on Tuesday and Wednesday stayed at my secondary. I listed both of them when I initially filed the paper i-485 and at the interview it never came up as a problem. So far, the online application only throws a Warning that I have overlapping dates, but not an actual Error, so I think I will still be able to submit it with the overlapping dates.

But what happens if at the end it does give me an error? Seems unwise to not list the secondary address because I had already listed it in the i-485 years ago. Maybe omit the secondary address but upload an additional PDF with a short explanation of what happened?

Has anyone dealt with a situation like this?

That's the thing, we are so close that an N400 at this point might be contra productive at this time

That's my logic too. I'm a Sept 2021 filer and I'm getting very close to the official estimate of 27.5 months...I've decided to wait (im)patiently for a little longer.

I also considered something else: if it weren't for VisaJourney, there would be no discussion of WoM or N-400 speeding up the process. We have anecdotal evidence. I tell myself that I'm following the official process. After all, no one from USCIS has stated "we won't touch your I-751 until you submit N-400." Not that they would ever say that out loud.

Congratulations!!! I heard it's not uncommon to see some pending status for I-751 even months after oath. I wouldn't pay attention to online status anymore.

I should know this probably...after the oath and becoming a citizen, does your Alien number remain active and is it ever used for anything? Or is it truly the end of the line of the immigration journey?

Since January of this year I've been tracking 25 cases from the previous year, starting at 2190150000, which were filed in ~April 2021.  There has been limited movement on the 22 cases for i-751 in that span, 8 now show approval, most recently on August 23 2023.

And even so, there is no way of knowing how many of those approvals are without a concurrent N400.

  15. One more factor to consider: if you do file N400, current estimates (depending on field office), you will be looking at around ~7-9 months. What if you get your combo interview in May? Upon approval, the interviewing officer will take your green card away. Now you can't travel until you get a U.S. passport, which could take another month or two (if not more, since you have to get all the documents proving your citizenship first). You will miss your sibling's wedding because you will be stuck in the US.

How likely is for this to happen right before your travel? I reckon about as likely as getting the i-751 denied while abroad.
