My NOA1 was received on April 20th, and I am still waiting for my NOA2. I keep being told to wait also, and that my case is "pending security checks". 

We waited 456 long days for NOA2. We still don’t know and won’t even know why our car was SO delayed...hang in there for now and try not to worry. We made ourselves crazy overthinking it all

My NOA1 is June 1st

and haven’t heard back anything yet. I do feel exactly the way you do, but we cannot do anything to push these people to do the job that we already paid for! 
 
Many quastions come to my mind, do these people have hearts ? Do they realize that our lives, happiness, major life decisions, future with our significant ones all in between their hands and all depend on their decision? 😔
Do they know that we struggle every single minute without our second half?

Today USCIS is closed, so unfortunately updates are unlikely. I don't understand why they can't have a bit more transparency to the process. 

Our NOA1 was Jun 6 and I've been watching one after another with NOA's after us get their NOA2 and I've been getting very frustrated.  I called USCIS and didn't accept their standard read-off-a-card responses.  I found out that our background checks were complete and now we're just waiting for an officer to review our package.  That's about all the info I could get, though.  I asked why they didn't take cases in chronological order and they told me I wouldn't understand how cases are distributed amongst the officers and I didn't press the issue because I didn't want some upset clerk to stash my application back at the bottom of the pile.  We're trying to be patient, but you're right, it's like sitting at a restaurant for hours while people who come in after you are getting their food and have already left while you're still staring at each other wondering why the gods have found you so unworthy.  

sometimes there is a delay (sometimes MAJOR) for no discernible reason. even for straight forward cases that are complete in their package submission.
 
I had my NOA2 in 175 days? including previous marriage, death of my ex, old criminal background, etc. we submitted all relevant and required paperwork, plus some.
 
We do have 40+ visits though. And see each other frequently, obviously.
 
no rhyme or reason for some delays. or for some approvals. it is what it is. sit tight.

That's what I've been thinking of. Whichever red flags may be there, will hardly affect approval of the petition itself as the requirements are very straightforward. Embassy is a different thing and they may have fun as they please. So at USCIS stage it is probably pure luck (prompt assignment to a workaholic and fast background check response). 

I think it's a factor of putting together an approvable petition and chance  My fact pattern is wildly different than yours (previous marriages, previous petitions, big age gap, minimal secondary evidence (ie. One photo)) approved in 172 days.  So what most people would describe as complicated, red flag items, simply doesn't affect a petitions approval.  Submit the required evidence and your petition will be approved.

I mean, I'd like to think we had an extremely straightforward case (no prior marriages, no criminal records, a 9 year age difference is nothing when it's early 40s and early 30s, three one-week meetings, met her family, Russia is not a high-fraud country, my surname is very uncommon) and we put together a good packet, but honestly chance had more than a little to do with it I'd guess.
 
Still, most May filers with timelines here do have NOA2 now, and a decent percentage of the rest have an RFE.

80% of processing time is dependent on who gets assigned to work your case. There are very good adjudicators, average adjudicators and poor performing adjudicators. The other 20% (and make up the cases with long delays) is due to wonky background checks and name matches. And yes, wonky is a technical term)))

This appears to be the most common reason for delays outside the norm

Unfortunately, you just need to be patient.

Huh?  Recent trend is 180 days +/-.  Mine was 173

We were 169 days (May 31 notice date; Nov 16 approval)

Thats so awesome. For all of us waiting remember next week is a holiday week and we should keep our expectation in order......   I have not been following April or May to see how many are still waiting.. 
 
its good to know at least one pile of applications from June are being processed.
