Hi guys. I used to have a different account MANY years ago when my wife was going through the CR-1 process back in 2011. I remember how much the members on these forums helped us through the process. In fact, we made some life long friends that we met on this very website!

But now I need more advice. My wife has her permanent resident greencard in the US. She's been here for almost 11 years. Her Colombian passport is expired but she wants to go see her mom and brothers in Colombia. The closest Colombian embassy to us is in Houston. She would have to fly there. To get a passport. BUT! I saw a comment on a thread here that someone said that because she is a Colombian citizen, she can enter Colombia with an expired passport, but she must get a new passport while in Colombia before she comes back to the USA. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or can someone point me in the right direction? I've tried doing google searches but most info I get is for dual-citizens and she is not. Thanks for the advice, amigos!

I am in the same boat. Can you tell me how your wife handled this situation? My husband needs to get to Honduras to see his mom who is sick as soon as possible, but his passport is expired.  Thank you

  2. I hope someone can help. I have called all the phone numbers to the Honduran Embasssy's in the U.S and none of them work. My husband's passport had just expired last month (Honduran passport). He needs to get back home to see his mom who is very ill and not doing well. Is there a way he can travel to Honduras and enter the United States with his expired passport (he has his green card which has been extended until 2025 as we wait for them to lift the restrictions). Does anyone know of a number I can call to talk to someone at an Embassy? He needs to see his mom as soon as possible and I just need help with getting him there, and being able to return home. Also, ID's have changed in Honduras and for him to renew his passport he has to apply for a new ID and he was told it would take weeks to months to get the new ID.

Thank you in advance for any help.

When your husband arrived in the US he got a passport stamp from the Customs and Border protection, right? The exit stamp from Honduras is irrelevant in this case. The entry stamp from when he went through passport control upon entry to the United states + the visa is what he needs. It should look like this. Does he have a stamp like this from the date when he entered on his CR1 visa?

    Yes he has this stamp

It is the correct stamp. The entry stamp looks exactly the same as no matter what visa you enter on. It's just the standard stamp. When I entered on my CR1 visa the border officer wrote my visa number on the stamp, right under the date. The important part is what says on the lower part on the CR1 visa: "Upon endorsement serves as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year."

You can only enter with a CR1 visa one time. Once you enter, the visa, in combination with the entry stamp, becomes a document proving that you have LPR (green card)-status. The visa, with the entry stamp, is all you need to prove your green card status. It's good for work, travel, getting a driver license or anything you can do with a green card, basically.

Thank you for your detailed explanation. It helped a lot. I sent a picture to the Human Resource department of the job my husband has interviewed for. They told me that my husband needs a stamp along with the part "Upon endorsement serves as a temporary 1-55....."   I am attaching the stamp my husband received and it is not the same one that my friend received. This stamp does not work for my husband to work. :(

  5. My husband entered into the U.S on Saturday, September 13th. His passport was stamped but I just found out it was not stamped with the stamp that allow for working.  Has this ever happened to anyone and any suggestions on how to fix this? He had a phone interview today for a job, but they can't continue with his employment due to not have the correct stamp to act as a temporary green card.

This OP's question is airline-specific.  The information required at booking would depend on your husband's choice of airline, although they would probably want his passport details too.

Thank you for your response. I was thinking it was airline specific, but I will contact the airline he will be flying on just to get clarification. Thanks again

  7. My husband and I just received an email from the Embassy in Honduras and it has left us confused. My initial thought is that it is a generic response, but wanted to reach out for any help in this matter.

    Here is our background.

    First interview - July 26th 2019

    First M.E. expired - January 14, 2020

    Second interview - February 20, 2020

Request for new M.E from Embassy - March 19, 2020

    New M.E sent to U.S Embassy August 4,  2020

    Case updated August 5, 2020

    Case updated August 6, 2020

Email sent to us August 6, 2020

Here is the email that was sent to us. My initial thought is that it is a generic response, but not sure. I am also not sure why they have not requested his police report since it also expired. I did contact them, letting them know we were confused, but we would resend the form. They were given the form at his first interview. Anyways, thank you for reading and giving me ideas about this.

Dear Mr. Alex Omar Pinto Caballero

Before your Immigrant Visa interview at the United States Embassy in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, it is important that you electronically resend Form DS-260. (attached instructions). Invoice your case ID is: .............................

On the day of your appointment you will need: 1 current passport size photograph, your passport.

When you have forwarded this form, please let us know via this email so we can provide you with an appointment date.

    Sincerely,

    Immigrant Visa Section

They are not doing interviews.  Most consulate are issuing visas when the backlogged applications are completed and approved

Are you saying the consulate will not even process visa's of applicants who have completed everything until they have caught up with all the applicant's during this time of not being opened?

My husband has been told he could still renew his medical exam and send it via cargo. I was under the impression they would still be able to issue the visa, since he does not need another interview.

Since the interview is completed and the consulate simply needs the updated medical to issue the visa, why wait?

I know for a fact that Honduras is working with two airlines to help immigrants fly to the United States. I just do not know if the Embassy is issuing Visa's right now. I really believe my husband would have been here by now if it wasn't for the lockdown.

I'd wait until getting anew medical until the consulates reopen before getting new medical and police reports so that he would have the maximum amount of time to travel.

That is a good point. I was told that people are still working at the Embassy in Honduras, but not scheduling interviews.  Do you know of a site that would be able to give me more information on this?

    Thank you

We're in the same boat as everyone, we received a case number for the K-1 on 3/11 and are just waiting to see if anything ships out on the 31st.  Like everyone else, we sit and wait.....I don't believe any flights are moving until May from Australia at this point.  Of course, everything is fluid and subject to change.  Exercising patience and trust in the lord.  Thx again to the many knowledgeable folks on this site that provide guidance and support!

Yes, definitely exercising patience and trusting in God through all of this. Has Australian boarders closed as well?

  12. The Embassy emailed my husband and I on Thursday March 19th in regards to needing his new medical exam to continue processing his case. We believe we are in the very close to getting his visa, but now my husband can not travel to San Pedro Sula to get his new medical exams done. Also, the Honduras borders are closed and no one can leave. We did get an e-mail regarding the Embassy not holding any interviews or appointments. We were so excited that the Embassy has requested his new medical exams (first ones expired), but now we are back into the waiting due to the Coronavirus. My heart goes out to everyone this is affecting.

    Hello everyone.

So i had my interview on the 8th of January. It went generally well, but the interviewer told me i would have to provide an additional document (attestation of birth). he told me that after i provided it, my visa would be issued and that it would take about 2 weeks. He gave me back my passport, a document request form and a nd told me i would have to resubmit  both of them, along with the requested document, in order to get my visa.

He also gave me the uscis immigrant fee form and the printout with information on domestic violence.

I obtained the requested document in 48hrs, but when i tried to submit, i was told that they had not requested for my passport on the request form. They refused to accept my passport, as a result.

When i tried to log in to ceac website some days later, i discovered i had been placed in administrative processing.

It has now been three months.

The recent change in language on the ceac website was confusing as i thought i had been refused. To be frank, i'm still not sure what the current situation is.

Does anyone else have any insight or perhaps a similar experience?

We are from Honduras, so different Country but pretty much the same experience. I wish I could give you a magic answer, but this seems to happen often. People go to their interview, get a pamphlet on on Domestic Violence, get a  221(g) form and told to submit documents so they can review the case, to then only be in AP for months with no more information.

My husband has had two interviews with 2 221(g) forms, mind you the last form did not request any information, ONLY said you are in AP until further notice. His last interview which was 3 weeks ago, the lady didn't even give him a form or anything, only said watch for your mail we will send you more information.

Like I said, I feel we are in similar situations, but there is no rhyme or  reason and definitely no way to contact anyone or get answers and I wish I had better information for you. I am sorry you are experiencing this. Hope you get answers and please keep us posted.

I have  been in AP since Oct 2019 after submitting the requested tax document for joint sponsor.  Check status a few minutes ago to see it has changed to refused.

It is a relief to read other people are experiencing this.

    But what does this mean?

It is basically the Embassy changing the wording from Administrative Processing to Refused. Technically if anyone was in AP than they are refused until the process is complete. Your application for the visa is still being worked on. That is my understanding from watching a video from an attorney and reading other posts.

What Embassy are filing through? That is sad that they have kept you in AP since October even after submitting the documents they requested.

My wife case had 5 updates since our last interview 1/29 it was showing refused since November 2019.

Did the Embassy say why it is refused? Are they waiting on more documents? The Embassy has not told my husband anything as to why he has not been approved yet for his visa, or why they have not asked him to send in a new medical exam due to his expiring.

  16. Yes, also AP to Refused. My husband had his second interview 2 weeks ago and they said they would send him more information and we still have not received anything. I was hoping this was a step forward to getting his visa, but it sounds like it was a glitch. Please continue posting new information if you receive anything from the Embassy.

  17. Sounds like it is a glitch. I was not able to log onto my husband's case for a few moments, then when I did it said Refused. Everyone I have talked with has experienced the same thing.  This process is so nerve wrecking, then to think they are having glitches does not help. Please...if anyone hears anything from the Embassy either phone, mail or email can we keep each other posted? I still hope this status change means being with my husband sooner.
