So what are you coming back for? You’ve no job here, your marriage is as good as over. You can divorce him from overseas, you don’t need to be physically present in the US.

Yes, legally you are still married but the marriage is over except for the official paperwork.

i don’t understand why you are coming back to live under the same roof as the person who has been abusing you.

You heard wrong.  It simply does not matter, you can take whatever route is cheapest.  In our case, back then, we did a round trip ticket since it was cheaper, we set the return date out six months (the longest span the airline would allow), and when it neared that date, we canceled the return leg.  Now of course we lost a little, but we were able to use the credit for a future flight.

    Good Luck!

This is why you need to read and research as much as you can.  Marriage to a USC alone confers no immigration benefit.  Now is the time to grow up a bit and do the hard work required to get what you want.  Even if this means long periods of separation, working 2-3 jobs, scrimping and saving, going without, etc.

US immigration is expensive (have you looked at the fees?) and very time-consuming.  Stick around here on VJ and you will begin to get the information and advice you need to make it work.

Much better to contact a Lawyer than ask a friend not familiar with the issues.

A much better solution would just be to not marry someone who you don't trust to not falsify abuse.

You really need to learn to listen to advice this time.
We understand you don't want her in your life. People are making recommendations to help you.  I highly suggest that you listen this time.  I dont even know why you're waiting to file the divorce.  The sooner you get your seperation recorded the better.  Find a new apartment. Give notice and move asap.  Stop trying to get her evicted and just leave.

I am not as experienced or as Knowledgeable as many who have responded to you and i say this with all humility and encouragement for your case hoping it goes well. To your original question, do you have hope? Yes you do. They returned your passport but ASKED you to submit more documents. Meaning you have a chance. Focus on providing the information that was asked of you. You can't send anything to NVC at this point as they forwarded your case to the Consulate so If you want to add extra's like bank statements and all that to show your petitioner has what it takes to prove you won't be a public charge, you could send that along with the new I-864 you submit. But remember, the CO has no obligation to consider those as they asked for 2 specific things based on what you stated - joint sponsor and WHY they decided to sponsor. The one thing I have learned from this site is - trying to prove your case to us (members of VJ) will change nothing. We  understand and feel your anguish. And i say this because you keep reiterating that "she is rich". We may not know her financial situation and she may as well be secretly be a millionaire. But none of us here asked for the I-864 and as a result none of us will be reviewing the documents. Focus on what it is you have been asked, do everything to get the right documents within the short window you have as time now is playing against you. We all respond because we want to be of help! Do what others have suggested

Is it worth it to keep the guy around? Having a spouse threaten their partner with a knife, and he's only been in this country for a short time, would have me wanting a quick deportation!

Yup, I would say the doctor is off by a month in his count as 6 months would be November.     I wouldn't stress over the by the doctor in his "count" ...

Here is a link to info for the immigrant visa process.   Under the required documents tab is a link to the embassy checklist, make sure to complete all 5 steps (STEP 5 is the documents requirements checklist)
