    Interview experience..

I applied together with my wife afer 5yrs and 3months as green card holders and we both got same date and time of interview.we arrived around 8.45am for a 9am interview.passed through the security and properly checked in.at exactly 8.55am,my number was called and went with my 3yrs old son to meet with IO.The man was not friendly, very strict and professional.after confirming my name, date of birth and address, the first question was why are you here and why do you want to be a citizen?.I was somehow surprised but answered.he then asked who was Abraham Lincoln and later asked me to write my answer on the pad in from of me.
He later rushed through the other five questions and the yes and no part of the application.
Apart from my green card he asked,he didn't ask of any other documents or asked any strange questions.
He later handled a paper to me without making any comment and had to quickly read where it was marked to be sure what was marked.
I asked him when the oath was likely to take place and he asked me if I have an impending trip which I answered yes.he said I should not worry that it's going to be soon.
The whole interview took 7mins and my spouse own took 10mins.
We left the building few minutes thereafter and before we got home, status already changed to you attended your interview and after an hour later, status changed to we approved your application.
The following morning, status changed to we scheduled your oath ceremony.

    Naturalization ceremony day...

The ceremony was scheduled for 10.30am at st Paul river center and parking was very easy.
The presiding judge announced that we were 830 new citizens from 91 countries appearing for the oath and at around 11am,we formally became an America citizen.
The whole ceremony lasted around 45mins.

    Total completion time was 6months,17days.

Ten years fighting for this moment guys, it's so exciting. I submitted my application Jan, 25th and did fingerprinting yesterday. It says on the USCIS my target is 13 months. Hopfully with dumping some cases to Portland and Yakima, it can be faster. I will keep you updated. It's very good thread to see the most recent updates from everyone around.

Yes, I cancelled a trip to Argentina in June 2020. I was going to visit my baby niece and at the same time, teach a graduate class at the University of Buenos Aires but I am scared to death to leave and not be able to come back.

ITS ALL DONE!!!!   Oath Ceremony today at the US Federal Courthouse, (50 new citizens from 20 countries) very impressed with the organization, professionalism and genuine congratulations from the judge, USCIS staff, Court staff and all who participated.

Could never have done this without Visa Journey, thanks to all who answered questions and special thanks to the people who put together all the information in the guides.  We followed these line by line, to the letter, never used an attorney or agency, did it all ourselves according to the information on this site in 5 years, 5 months.  AGAIN THANKS TO ALL!

It's almost a year to the date i got my citizenship and just had to stop by this thread. It's funny how i was always on here hoping, lurking and freaking out with every post lol... now it's just but a memory. Life is funny that way. Glad to see most, if not all have gotten their citizenship.

For anyone still in this journey, please know that yours will come and go and all the worrying, what-ifs and random panicking will be long gone. Wishing everyone the best of luck in their respective journeys and thanks to this forum for making my life bearable for that entire process.

Update: Both my I751 and N400 got approved yesterday, a little over two weeks since my N400 interview. The oath ceremony notice already posted online for 2/25, which is less than 2 weeks away! That was a lot shorter than I thought I'd have to wait for everything to get resolved. I was mentally prepared to wait it out until the summer.

Looking back at everything, I'd say that my case was pretty straight forward. Just a few traffic citations and lost my green card, but no crimes, no divorces or anything like that. The only weird thing was that my biometrics for the I751 never came even after a year after filing. Once I filed the N400, everything else moved fairly quickly; biometrics was scheduled right away within the same month. Interview got scheduled 7 months later. The online personalized estimated case completion time was pretty accurate. Mine says completion March 2020.

I relied a lot on VisaJourney's immigration timeline to compare other applicants in my same area. Based on a few applicants who had filed their N400 a few months before me, I was able to estimate when I would get an interview, which I estimated to be either Dec 2019 or Jan 2020, so it was pretty spot on. It helped me a lot with my bouts of impatience regarding my case. The last few months of this process felt painfully slow and agonizing and I'm just so happy to put this all aside and never have to deal with USCIS again! Also very excited to finally be able to vote

Yes, it is very frustrating. In my case, IO only asked to see my GC and told me to bring it to oath ceremony. I was told that the status will update overnight. Now I am wondering if the person who was supposed to approve me decided to go on a last-minute vacation or something.

We filed on June 29th. Nothing yet. (Orlando office).

I'm so bitter about this whole process right now.  We have hit every single delay from the outset of our K1. My daughter was 12 when we started the K1 process and turns 18 next week. So I'll literally miss having her get her citizenship through me but a matter of a few weeks. What really burns me is seeing that late September filers (as well as all July and August filers on VJ) at the same local office have already had their interview and/or oath.  My husband thinks I'm kidding, but there is nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise. There is some note on our file that was put there by some disgruntled employee during our K1 process.  We have consistently been 2-3 months behind the rest of our respective groups of filers at every single stage of this journey.

I'm sorry about the negativity. I'm just so exhausted of constantly having our lives in pending and every time we think the end is in sight, there's more time added to it. There is nobody else I can tell except you guys because nobody gets it.

We've been looking forward to this for years and when hubby asked me at breakfast if I'm excited, I told him no.  It's just another reminder that there's a little division courtesy of USCIS, in our family, yet again. More waiting for daughter's now 5 year window, I have to tell her that she does NOT get to vote like all her friends now that she's turning 18 and we have more expense, suspense, paperwork. I'm just so over this.

Thank you for listening.  I'm totally fine if you all want to tell me to stop being negative. I'm #*&%ing exhausted from this all and the only thing I care about is that I used this opportunity to finally correct a typo on my name on my birth certificate so that I don't have complications everytime I sign something and present my ID.

Attended interview today at San Antonio field office. Any electronics or electrical chargers/headphones in the bags will have to be taken out at the entrance check-point.

At the check-in the reception area did a quick index finger scan and a photo was taken.

Appointment was for 7:45am but it took about an hour for them to have me interviewed. I guess everyone if given a single appointment time early in the morning and then they go through the interviews which may or may not happen at the appointed time. I had a very pleasant interviewing officer who scanned the room and pointed at me instead of calling my number so I figured he had looked at my various photos and studied my file in-depth.

My conversation with him was mostly about different places that I had lived in the USA. We both agreed that San Francisco was a very nice city with great food etc. He asked me only for my greencard as the only document he wanted to see. He mentioned the length of time that I had been in the US  as something he noticed reading my file. I was also afforded the sacred sight of my immigration file which was sitting on the table and which now had been thickened to over a foot and a half.

    Questions:
1: How do Americans participate in their democracy?
2: Name one branch of the government?
3: Name two political parties in the usa?
4: What's the political party of the President? (Here the interviewing officer showed a bit skepticism on the linkage between the two entities mentioned in the question)

I somehow can't remember the other two questions. I then went through the writing and speaking part of the test and I had to reaffirm my answers from the N400 form.

At the conclusion, I was handed a form with the box for approval checked. The IO mentioned that he is approving my application and I should get a notice for oath taking in the mail and with that I was done. It took about 45 minutes. The actual interview took about ten minutes and the rest was just small-talk.

I think San Antonio office has put in a good work-flow in place with this new location. It is a big improvement on their previous location. The environment is very relaxed and the staff is very nice (as in smiling a lot) and professional.

There are a few fast food restaurants within the block. There is major roadside construction going on 281 HWY so you might want to keep that in mind while driving there.
