Curious to ask, which option did you guys select and had success with? For us, I suppose being closer to a family member or members applies best, but U.S. job (take a new job or job transfer) may also apply. I just don't want to enter the family option if that would mean the move was voluntary and hence the EI claim may be denied?

What is your visa? I came on a spousal Visa the only answer that applied was to be closer to family (family reunification is absolutely acceptable) I qualified for 36 weeks of EI when I got here with no problems.

Answer truthfully as to why you are moving...that will depend on your visa catagory.

  2. Question for those of you who have successfully applied for EI after moving...what happens if you get a job and then lose hours or are laid off? Can you restart your claim or is it done as soon as you start working a certain amount of hours?

I cant seem to find an answer to this when I google and I have never been on EI before so I have no idea how that scenario works...

Thanks in advance for any info or advice :)

May I ask where you checked this please? Is it on the same page where we paid the immigrant fees?

@Hadarah it’s encouraging that you were able to get your SSN card in your married name. Does your visa have your married name on it?

It’s so annoying they would only issue my visa in my maiden name even though my passport has both... I’d like my marriage to be recognised here 😒 and not have to go by a different name than the one I’ve been using for over 2 years.

    https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

use the reciept number that was given when you paid the green card fee (mine started with IOE)

Hey everyone. I crossed on October 10th and still haven’t received my SSN. Pretty sure they lost my application, it seems to happen frequently. So I just sent in my own application to my local office along with my passport 😬 let’s pray for its safe return.

My passport has both my maiden and married names on it because I’m French. It shows as “name: (maiden name), spouse: (married name)“. However my visa was issued in my maiden name only.

The agent from the social security office I talked to on the phone said they could issue my SSN card in my married name so I sent in my marriage certificate... I’m skeptical that they’ll be able to do that since my GC will be in my maiden name but fingers crossed. I’ll let you guys know in case it’d be of interest to anyone!

I’m sorry there has been no new ILs recently, I’m thinking of you all. Stay strong 🙏🏻

I crossed over on the 17th and don't have mine yet either, but was able to make an appointment at my local office for this coming Thursday to submit an application. Hopefully that will get things rolling! On a side note, my green card status changed to in production on Saturday so it should be here soon :)

Hopefully they will send yours back with your married name.

Thanks! My medical expires on Sep 5. Emailed montreal regarding the medical and they said it is valid for 7 months. They said just to attend the interview and they will review medical validity then. Are you or anyone retaking medical?

My interview has been rescheduled for Sept 9. My medical expires Sept  25 (with the 1 month extension) so we have decided to redo the medical before my interview because 16 days to get my passport back and move is really cutting it close with the postal delays lately.

Might be a waste of money but its one less thing to stress over at this point.

I would only be going down there for about 3 weeks. Would that be enough time to get the marriage license and do a quick courthouse wedding? We're not sure how to get the license or how long it takes. And where would we go to get it?

Every state is different...for Wisconsin it was 5 business days and because he had lived there less than 30 days and I wasn't a resident of that state we had to get the licence at the county clerks office in the county we were getting married in. (We chose a small winery in a different county than he lived instead of a courthouse wedding) Once I found out where to go, I called to see what I needed to bring as far as ID for when we applied.

A quick Google search for the state you plan on marrying in should give you an idea of how long the wait for the licence is. You will also want to see how long to get the marriage certificate back after as you will need it to change your name on all your documents at home.

    Hope that helps!

That would be our plan my plan as well.

K1 seemed like a good idea but thinking about letting that expire and going for the CR1 instead to avoid waiting for adjustment of status.

One more question... did you take his last name? If so, when we fill out the I-130 I'm assuming in would put that name and then have my Canadian Passport redone with the name change?

    Yes. That's exactly what I did 😊

I'm from Canada and my fiance is from the US. Can we get married in the US and then file for the CR1 or do we need to get married outside of the US in order to file for a CR1?

(Yes, we know about the K1 option but I would like to be able to work when I go to the US without waiting 8 months)

Yes you can. I married my Husband in Wisconsin in 2018 and then returned to Canada while our paperwork processed.

How were you able to file 3 days later? It took us 12 weeks just to get the marriage certificate.

Sorry...it was 4 days later. We picked up our marriage certificate on the Monday after the wedding and he mailed the paperwork on Tuesday after my flight left to come back to Canada.

  10. The waiting process is extremely difficult. I am also Canadian moving to the US to be with my husband...We got married in August of 2018, filed 3 days later (Aug 21 2018) and are still waiting for our interview date in Montreal. We are hoping for a March interview but realistically after looking at the stats from last month it likely wont be until April. Luckily as Canadians we are able to visit throughout the process (no guarantees but I have not had any issues at the border so far) so that helps. Prepare yourself for the waiting and the goodbyes after each visit...they just get harder and harder as the process moves along.  It will test your relationship but just remember that all of the waiting will be worth it in the end!

I'm filling out the DS-260 for my husband and am under the Work/Education/Training section, Putting in his previous work and education. I fill out most of the information and then I click "Add Another" and then this screen comes up. I've filled in the same info at least 5 times and each time this screen comes up when i click "Add Another" see attachement.

Anybody else had this? It is driving me absolutely nuts. How do I get around this? 1532636380_Screenshot2019-10-29at7_58_56PM.thumb.png.fb48d534fb63d24fcc6b0224243fd4ae.png

this happened to me several times last week. I was ready to throw my computer across the room! I ended up switching browsers (from google chrome to internet explorer) and then was able to complete the form.

Where were you able to find them? He filled out a form and the lady told him they would try to find them, but chances are there wouldn't be record that far back.

Yes, I just phoned the public health unit where I grew up and asked for the records department.  The lady asked me a few questions to verify I was who I said I was (birthdate, maiden name, cities I have lived in over the years) and then said she had everything up until 2004 and asked if I wanted to pick them up or have it mailed. Super easy!

I also called the one where I am now for my most recent tetanus info...same process.

Good luck to her getting the records if she doesn't already have them somewhere at home. Mine was told that records are only kept for so long...he was born in 72 and chances are he won't be able to get records from that far back. But as I said, he was told that he would be able to get vaccinated at his medical interview if anything is questionable...it will just cost extra.

I was also told that I may not be able to get mine as I was born in 1973 but they were still on file.

  14. Also...she can get a titer test for varicella, it will show whether she has had chickenpox and has the antibodies in her system, she can ask for this test from her doctor.

I just had this conversation with the nurse practitioner at my doctors office last month...hope that helps :)

  15. Just yesterday I phoned the public health unit in both the city I live in now (for my most recent tetanus shot info) and the town I grew up in (for all of my childhood vaccinations) to get my immunization records. In both cases they just verified my identity with a couple of questions and said 'OK I've located your records, would you like to pick them up or would you like them mailed?'

I'm not sure where your fiancé is located, but if she is in Ontario the public health department should have her vaccination records on file and it shouldn't be an issue for her to obtain them.
