Hello all!
We had our AOS interview on 8/6/2020. We were told at the interview that we had been approved and should receive the green card at the end of Aug. I have checked the case status online and it still states that our interview has been scheduled. I understand with everything going on with Covid and USPS that things are delayed. Anyone know how long it is taking to get the green card? Thank you!

The shutdown does not affect the visa process because USCIS is funded by visa fees.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) made clear in its official statement that the shutdown “does not affect USCIS’s fee-funded activities. Our offices will remain open, and all individuals should attend interviews and appointments as scheduled.”

Yes, technically he's a legal alien allowed to work. Meaning he COULD get an EAD based on his status, even though it's a useless path.
Some non-immigrant statuses CANNOT get an EAD, they are the legal aliens not allowed to work.
Thank you! I went with allowed to work.

For the form he has to fill out:
Legal alien allowed to work
Thank you. I have been looking on other posts and it says the same.

Unless he has a valid EAD, then he is not eligible to work legally. The note you quoted about K1s should be clarified to say that a K1 is a legal alien eligible to apply for work authorization like @JFH mentioned. I would check the not allowed to work box, but in the end, I don't thin it will matter as the SSC alone does not authorize a K1 immigrant to work legally.
Good Luck!
Thank you!

I am not worried about having the actual work permit for him right now. I am only worried that I am checking the right box to on the Social Security application.

My fiance is going down to the Social Security office today to apply for his SS#. I am reading through the information that needs to be filled out and I am slightly confused. In section 5 on citizenship it has non-immigrant allowed to work and non-immigrant not allowed to work. I would assume this is not able to work as we are on a K1 visa.
This is where I get confused.
They tell you to print out and take the RM 10211.530 to take with you as some SS agents don't understand that K1 can apply for a visa. On this page it says under K1 "Legal alien allowed to work"
I don't want to send him down there with incorrect paperwork and cause a delay. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I reading it wrong?
Thanks in advanced for any help, just want to make sure we are doing it right!

Are you looking for the closest airport? Heathrow is closest airport but I am not sure if that is your actual question.

You should have received your LND number by now. If you are wanting to move forward in your case, I would call NVC and get your number. We got our NOA2 on 10/02/18 and had our interview done on 11/19/2018 for London. My fiance is now in the states and we were only about two months before you. I would call and check. We never received anything from NVC. I honestly wouldn't wait on a letter or email. Just call and get your LND#. Good Luck!

If you don't wait there is a good chance he will not be in the system and it will take even longer to process. Your best bet is to wait. I have even read recently that people are having to wait longer than 2 weeks. My fiance moved Dec 11th and we have not gone yet. We will probably wait for the holidays to be over just in case.

You can have free tax transcripts sent to you from the IRS using this link https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript
We did not include w-2's just the tax transcripts and they were fine for us.
Takes about 3 business days for them in the mail or you can try the online option.

Discussions about how long can not be sensibly commented upon without knowing why a B is needed.
I didn't ask on a timeline but thanks.

During the last government shutdown in 2013, the impact for most customers of USCIS was minimal. Naturalization interviews, citizenship ceremonies and most of the other day-to-day work of the agency continued as normal. That is because USCIS is a fee-based agency. Its funding is not dependent on annual appropriations from Congress. The exception is E-Verify, the component of USCIS that checks the work eligibility of employees being hired by U.S. employers. According to USCIS, more than 500,000 employers currently use the system. E-Verify depends on annual appropriations and therefore would be unable to operate if there were a lapse in funding.

I wouldn’t mess around with this. If you want him at your wedding I’d apply ASAP. If it’s a error on the esta he will still need a b2 because it’s a denial. Looks like the processing time is 2-3 months. You also have the option of going to Belfast.
Fingers crossed for you.
Thank you! He has started his DS-160 and has spoke to someone at the Embassy already. The time crunch is on and with the holidays I may need you to cross your toes too!

Do you know if he ever overstayed on ESTA in the past?
He has not had an overstay. We will apply for the B2 and keep our fingers crossed. Thanks for all the help.

I am not sure why it was denied. We are going to video chat with him later to make sure it was not an error on his paperwork.

My soon to be father in law just received notice that his ESTA has been denied for him to come to our wedding in the United States. Are there any other options for us? Thanks!

Well that makes me worry a bit!
