jennylo87 got a reaction from OET in NVC Checklist for Same Item
It seems as if it was a mismatch of information.

The NVC supervisor I spoke with stated that the police certificate issued from Cyprus has a validity of only two months (if they knew this, it should be posted to the website?) and the issuing police authority confirmed this after the request for an updated document. This must trump what is listed on the website, if the document has a stated validity date, which has passed?  My husband also had a UK police certificate which was valid for the standard year...no issue there. A quick search indicates that Malaysian police certificates only have a validity of 6 months, it seems there are country-specific regulations. In any case, I thought it prudent to comply with the RFE. I already had an updated certificate at the embassy and cc was the following day.

I also advised my husband to get an updated certificate when he flew back to Cyprus for his interview to avoid any other 'expiration' complications (it would have been past the two months). He was approved on the spot. To OET, all the best with your journey. The Nicosia embassy was a breeze!

You do NOT become a public charge for accepting Medicaid. The proposed bill is NOT law. If it was to become law it would NOT be retro active. It does NOT include premium tax cradits. Oh Lord mass hysteria. It doesn't apply to ROC. Woman go have your baby in peace. I help pregnant immigrants get Medicaid every single day. I have NEVER heard of a sponsor being sued.

The forms might look daunting but they are really very simple. All they ask is questions to which you already know the answer (name, date of birth, address, when and where married, etc). It's not a Harvard admission exam. Take your time, read through all the instructions before answering and answer each question as it comes. Don't skip to another section before completing the current section. Ask questions here. Almost all of us got through it without a lawyer. Save the money for a car for your husband for when he arrives so he can go to work.

Btw this does not directly apply to you, OP, but I learned about this during the process and it is simply interesting and good to know. Intent alone is not grounds for denial, even for cases in which the USCIS officer suspects improper intent. In fraud investigations, they need to build a case that may include intent as one factor out of many. However if a couple is genuine and bonafide but the USCIS officer suspects the intending immigrant may have had preconceived intent to enter on a non-immigrant visa and then remain in the US to adjust status, that's not enough to outright deny them. Knowledge is power.

I think you’re gonna encounter a lot of problems with this co-sponsor. USCIS likes things simple and plain. If you’re getting financial support from someone who has a negative income is gonna be too complicated for them and they won’t approve it. Remember you’re dealing with USCIS here. You gotta pretend they’re 5 years old.

    Hi,

My then-boyfriend (now husband), went through the exact same process. I'm the USC- We met in Scotland, he's from Cyprus, which isn't part of the visa-wavier program, so he had to get a B1/B2 Visa. We met in the spring, and by the winter, he wanted to visit my family with me in NY, so we were only dating for a few months before he applied for the visa. He had to go to the London embassy- he did put my address (in New York), on the forms, and gave my parents contact info too. He was working in Scotland as a post-doc at the time, so I believe he brought his contract with him as well, and maybe even the lease to the apartment he was renting in Scotland.

I wasn't with him for the interview and it was a few years ago now, but, from what I remember him saying, he got called up to the window and he told the officer that he was visiting his girlfriend's family for Christmas for two weeks. I remember him saying the officer asked if he'd met them before, and he said yes, on Skype, which was true- we'd Skype call with them from Scotland. The officer kinda joked with him and said 'good luck!". And that was it- he was approved, his passport with the B1/B2 visa (multiple entries, good for 10 yrs), was mailed to our apartment in Scotland about a week after.

I'm sure you'll be fine! Good luck!

Yes, that's true. He's not really thinking about research anymore- he left a post-doc, partly because of the temporary nature of the work (2-3 yr contracts, constantly chasing the next one, etc).  If something lined up, maybe he'd take it? I work in higher ed, so he's also entertained the idea of getting a NYS teaching license from my job for free, to teach science. From my perspective, the civil service would be the more solid solution.

    Hi guys,

Hope my story helps someone and calms nerves! Never posted before, but I've been referencing this site for the past year, as my husband and I are nearing the end of our green card process. I'm the USC, my husband is a Cypriot national and we filed our i130 November of 2016. We have our NOA1, NOA2, payed all our fees, and are just waiting for our supporting docs to reach NVC. So, we are nearly at the finish line. My husband has a B1/B2 tourit visa, which he got when when first met (3 years ago), since Cyprus is not on the VWP. We've been living in Cyprus together for the past two years, and I just landed a job opportunity back here in New York. We figured we would fly together (we have a 18 month old who is also a USC) to New York and my husband would return for his interview at the embassy in Nicosia. I was worried sick reading some of the stories on VJ. When we flew, I took copies of everything- our NOA1, NOA2, a complete copy of our NVC package and my husband's return flight, which is booked for March 25th. All that worry for nothing- we were all directed to US entry line, since CBP was not very busy at all. I was about 2 or 3 people behind him, I was delayed a bit- it was a hassle scanning both my and my daughters passport and taking out photo at the kiosk. I watched my husband step up to the CBP officer expecting the worst. The officer asked one question- reason of the visit, to which my husband replied- visiting family. That was it! Visa stamped and given the standard 6 months. Not one question about our pending IV or anything. As soon as I seen the officer stamp his passport, a weight come off my shoulders. So, he's here until the end of July...very hopeful that we will have an interview before that.

Just to note- My husband got his B1/B2 visa in 2015. He's entered only two times since then, Christmas of 2015 and Christmas of 2016- only staying two weeks each...and always getting the maximum allowance of 6 months. So, it's his (and mine, as well), first time back since leaving January of 2016.
