legendqueue reacted to DGF in IR-1/CR-1 Montreal DQ'd private message group goes public
Sorry for the long post ahead, I wasn't able to access VJ all morning so I'm just catching up now!
Yay! I'm so glad we all have interviews on the same day! Even if we don't end up see each other in the waiting room it's going to be so comforting knowing that others from this group are going through the same thing at (roughly) the same time.
The first batch of ILs that went out after the last shut down were spread over two days so I really hope that that's the case this time too!
I'm going with Air Canada but that's mostly because I want to use up my points 🙃
WOOOOOOO!!! That's so exciting! Now we need @Japples and anyone else waiting who I've missed to get updates too!
It can take up to 24 hours. I haven't even tried yet but I'll let you know when I do!
Mine says in transit, excited for it to switch to at Montreal! Of note: I checked CEAC roughly 30 minutes after getting the IL and it still said at NVC.
Good luck Hawk Riders! You've done so much for this group with the spreadsheet and in general keeping us on track and I cannot wait to hear that you've been approved

Man reading this thread this morning has been an emotional JOURNEY. I had six pages to read so it was angry, sad, MAD, despair, TOTAL despair, oh a message from DGF OMG YAY HOLY MACKEREL, and then just smiles and for whatever reason kinda tearing up even though I don't know any of you.

I know everyone is having a stressful Friday - but I have great news! The Consulate just called me and my CR-1 visa has been issued! Since my medical expires on October 16 they called because they want me to pick it up in-person to eliminate any risk of me not receiving it in time. My interview was Wednesday and the visa issued.
I've told my husband this, but I actually feel really indifferent about having my visa coming now. I got to the point with all the uncertainty that I was not going to let these circumstances dictate my emotional state, rather than leaving something I had no control over make me miserable. Don't get me wrong, I'm incredibly grateful and have so much love and support for everyone in this group.

::looked at soapbox, considered getting up on it, reconsidered and returned said soapbox to closet::
I'll settle for reiteration of this:

I'm approved!!!
The whole process only took about 75 minutes. They asked for:
-birth certificate
-passport photos
-divorce decree
-marriage certificate
-police certificates (I had them for Canada, UK and UAE)
After the first window and taking biometrics, I was told to wait until I was called for the 'interview' portion.
Questions I was asked was:
-Where did you meet and when?
-How often did you see each other? (since he was in the US and you in Dubai?)
-When did you get married?
-What husband does for a living?
-Is this both of your first marriages?
-Current US address
Because my medical expires on October 16, he strongly advised me to pick up my visa in-person at the consulate, so I'll do that as soon as it's ready.
It was streamlined process all in all.

I'm so over this convoluted process. Them pushing the folks part of a lawsuit before all of us that have been patiently waiting for interviews for almost a year now just blows my mind. I'll stop writing now before I say what's really on my mind. 🤐

I think this is what you were referring to - it was posted today. There's not much new here aside from "loosening" the restrictions around who can visit a Canadian, which will now include "extended family members of Canadian citizens and Canadian permanent residents, including those in an exclusive dating relationship of at least one year and their dependent children, as well as adult children, grandchildren, siblings and grandparents can come to Canada." The same 14-day mandatory quarantine rules apply though.
Curious to know whether the US land borders will similarly follow suit sometime soon to allow spouses to visit.

Here is the updated version from today. I think that's what the person you replied to was meaning to post. TLDR is that the exemption coming north is expanded to include extended family, and there's some student exemptions. 14 day quarantine still applies.

I just read this and imagined the security guard outside taking his phone and drop-kicking it up to the 3rd floor window after he took the elevator up 😂

I have travelled a few times to go see my wife and all they asked was to see my marriage certificate and her passport copy. No issues whatsoever. They give you the whole Quarantine guidelines and questions of course but I have driven over about 3 times during all of this. Peace arch also.

Land borders have been and remain closed since March. The only cases I've heard of getting through are on compassionate grounds (e.g. medical/other family emergencies). Officers at land crossings have even told folks to try flying when they get denied entry at a land crossing. I've flown to Seattle from Vancouver since COVID began and have had no issue. Yes, it's definitely more expensive but it's the only option for folks who aren't experiencing an emergency. If you still want to try your luck at a land crossing, you can always call CBP to confirm and save yourself a possible trip to the land border.

This is amazingly hopeful and I hope you get some clarity soon. For now breathe, go for a walk, do whatever you can to get through this worst few hours and then you'll be able to look at things better when that awful static goes away. I know that feeling. I think we all do to some extent, here. And we're all with you.
