  1. Hey! I'm at a loss..

We filed for AOS on July 10, it's been stuck on "Case Is Ready To Be Scheduled For An Interview" since August 22.

We filed for EAD separately (cause we are stupid) on October 09. It's been stuck on "Fingerprint Review Was Completed" since October 15.

I sent an e-request over a month ago asking about an update, because it's been over 6 months for both the AOS and the EAD. It said expect a response by april 26. Still no response.

I called the hotline and all it says is to send an e-request..

What else can I do? :( It's been so long, I haven't worked in over a year and I'm falling apart.

Do you mean you did not file EAD? Or that you didn't try to expedite EAD.

If you didn't file at all you can still file, sure. You may have to pay a fee, but actually I think even if you don't file concurrently with AOS that you may get away with no filing fee, if you attach AOS NOA1... Look into it. EAD definitely worth getting.

Yeah, we didn't file it, because we thought it was another $400!! Now we realized that that's not the case.. 😕 so we'll file it on monday. Can't believe we wasted 3 months of me not working, ugh! Thanks for your reply!

  3. So... after months of not looking at the forums and / or processing times I had a peek at the current AOS processing times.. 😨 they‘re currently processing october of last year?! That is almost a year ago.. we thought the wait would only be 4-5 months so we didn‘t file for an expedited work permit.. but this way I can‘t work for another year or so, right?! What do I do now? Can I still file for an early work permit or is it too late? Should I just wait for another year? Damn I didn‘t think this process could get any worse after finally arriving in the US..

  4. There is no "right" outcome here. Whether you lie or are honest, both things have their pros and cons.

If you are honest and say you have smoked before, you might risk getting denied. They don't drug test unless you state that you have a history with drugs. They usually only test for TBC and syphilis.

Lying is obviously kinda illegal and morally incorrect. Also if it DOES come out somehow in the end you are probably facinga ban. It's your decision whether you want to be truthful or stay silent about it.

Medical isn't as bad as people say in the USA. Once you're married, you can get put on your spouses coverage. Maybe there's a small copay but the insurance will normally cover between 80-100% of everything else.

It might not be "as bad as people say", but it's still really bad compared to what I'm used to.. I can just go see a doctor for free when I'm sick and I get xrays etc for free. Meanwhile my fiance had to pay $1100 from her insurance savings when she had to get an xray :/

As I said, it depends on what you are trying to measure.  You can't refute the fact that I presented.....which was the number of people living in the US who were not born here.

Idk I never said the fact isn't true, I said I agree with randomstairs that it's meaningless. A human can carry 263kg (which is a world record by the way). An ant can carry up to 10 grams. According to your logic, it's more impressive that a human can carry 263kg, because THE NUMBER is bigger. But I disagree. An ant can carry up to 50 times its own body weight. Could a human carry a medium-sized van? I don't think so.

While it's a fact, that number wise most immigrants live in the US, I disagree that that's impressive or relevant. The US has 14% of immigrants. While other places in the world have 50%, 60%, 70% and more immigrants. THAT I think is a lot. So let's just agree to disagree.

You can manipulate numbers any way you wish.  However, the fact is that there have been more people to immigrate to the US than any other country....by far.

It's not manipulating. If you do it per capita, the numbers are way different.

If you think the United States is every immigrant's dream, reconsider. Sure, in absolute numbers, the U.S. is home to the most foreign-born people — 45.7 million in 2013.

But relatively, it's upper-midpack as an immigrant nation. It ranks 65th worldwide in terms of percentage of population that is foreign-born, according to the U.N. report "Trends in International Migrant Stock."
