  1. I had my N-400 interview today in the Fairfax, VA ("Washington D.C.") office, and took my wife with me. Upon entry you first go through a security checkpoint where they do not ask why you are there, so my wife and I just walked in. After that someone saw my binder with all information we have previously submitted, and asked "Interview?", and pointed us towards the elevator to the second floor. At the registration counter I showed my N-400 interview invitation and told the attendant that my I-751 is also still pending, so I brought my wife, and she replied "It's possible he will make it a combination interview then.". After only a few minutes the officer came to get me and my wife, and I explained that I brought my wife in case he would like to also go over the I-751 stuff, and he says "that would make sense, especially since she is here already and then we can take care of all that in one go". We first did the N-400 interview itself, going over the form, adjusting small things (our address was updated based on automated USPS system feedback), going through all the yes/no questions, and he asked me 6 questions which I all answered correctly (he asked me "Who is the father of our nation", "name one of the branches of government", "what happened at the constitutional convention", "what date are taxes due", and two others I forget..). I had to read a sentence (Who is Abraham Lincoln), and write "Lincoln was the president during the civil war". We then went on to the I-751 part, he asked some basic questions to my wife such as "how did you meet, how did you start dating, did he propose to you, why did you get married?", and then he asked me "when did you get married, why were you the one proposing". He asked if I wanted to add any other evidence, and I told him I had some additional pictures (13 printed on two letter pages), and he would add those to our file. He said we were approved for both I-751 and N-400, and that I'd receive a notice for the Oath of Allegiance ceremony very soon! I can't wait, finally done with all this bureaucratic red tape!

You might be having 2 in 1 interview, prepare for both. Good luck

That's what I'm hoping for. My wife is coming to my N-400 interview regardless (and wait in the car). If need be she can always be called in quickly.

I did get the 24-month extension letter for my green card (instead of the original 18 month letter)... it's something I guess! This didn't show up on my USCIS account though.

  4. My N-400 interview has been scheduled for Dec 21st, but no update on my I-751.. ugh! Reading the posts here I’m staying optimistic and hoping I receive the 10-year card in the mail soon, before the N-400 interview.

I also contact the call center twice about this, and what worked for me was simply saying “schedule interview”, to which the machine asked if it was for biometrics, infopass, or “your interview”, to which I answered “interview”. The first time I called it put me on a 3 minute hold, and the second time I got immediately connected without a hold (!!). Sadly, both times the people were not helpful, and wouldn’t put in a service request for a Tier 2… ugh!

  5. On Nov 16th my N-400 interview got scheduled for Dec 21st in the DC (Fairfax) office, yay! No word on the I-751 at all though, and two calls to the USCIS Contact Center didn’t do anything. I requested to be connected to a Tier 2 officer so they can give it a closer look but was refused, twice, since “they can’t do anything at this point unless your case is outside of the current processing time, which it is not”… the inefficiency at USCIS is baffling honestly. Scheduling the two interviews at the same time would save so much time for both them and us.

Perhaps contacting our congressperson to inquire about this, and review the “inefficiencies at USCIS”, may be the next option?

    Welp....

For me personally, good news.. I have a wedding to attend to in May next year back home in the Netherlands, but with the 18 month extension I'd have to try to get a stamp in my passport. At least with a 24-month letter I can just travel and not worry.

Of course I'd rather have both the extension AND naturalization done before that time, but being under one of the busiest offices around (Washington DC), I doubt that's going to happen any time soon.

Can somebody tell me what the hell lockbox saying here? I got this reply today

    Good day,

The Lockbox does not reprint receipt notices for I-751 petitions. If after 15 business days you have not yet received a receipt notice, you should contact the USCIS Contact Center by sending a request online or by calling (800) 375-5283 to initiate an inquiry with the Service Center, to request that they reissue the notice and to make any changes, if needed, to the address to ensure it will be successfully delivered.

It looks like they are sending you in circles.. The online guys tell you to email the lockbox, and lockbox tells you to contact the online guys 😕

Same here. I sent email and inquiry online after calling USCIS today. I've been emailing the lockbox once a week and no answer. My husband's GC expires on 24 this month. SMH

Ha, mine expires on the 24th as well! I believe his status is still fine even after expiration as long as you had filed I-751, the only thing is travel outside of the US won't be possible. "Luckily" we can't do that much with COVID right now anyway......

  9. The bad news on my side first: I also have not received the NOA yet, and I just put in a request for that and the automatic confirmation said I should hear something on July 8th. I have until July 24th until my GC expires.. I guess we'll see....! Some GOOD news though: on June 12th my fingerprints were added to my case, so I will likely not have to go and get my biometrics taken.. yay!

September filers here! I wonder if the I485 status was updated to 'Ready to be scheduled for an interview' (mine at 11/01/2017) does that mean I will not receive RFE in the future?

    Thanks!

Good question.. I *think* that this means you won't get an RFE, since the status doesn't change until the NBC completely checks your file. This doesn't mean that once it reaches your local field office that they will find something wrong with it... Ready through some older filing threads I suggest!
