  1. For them when you guys are married means you can’t apply for SSN at their office but.... until you got your marriage license signed by the court to present for them it’s not their business and they can’t even check this.  Even if you would be married already  his immigrant status won’t change till you apply for AOS. So I strongly recommend waiting 35 or even more days and getting the SSN card ASAP. 😎 I just got mine in my maiden name and later changed/refreshed the last name during an appointment where I present marriage license.

Hi, I read your message. So you are sure that can't expedite processing if case at NVC? I sent request through online form on state.gov and they answered that we should wait till embassy contact us. I actually didn't understand is request approved or denied. Try to search some info about this.

So your K-1 got approved by USCIS and was sent to NVC? Yeah well from the research I did back when I was dealing with my visa you can’t expedite K1 stage at NVC, mainly because it’s just being there short time (a moth lol) to be sent to the embassy. I think only spousal visas can get expedited at NVC because they actually keep them there for a while for processing (but I never dig into it to much so I don’t want to write any wrong info).

From my experience I was only able to expedite K-1 only at USCIS. You can contact embassy once you have the NVC case number but they won’t be able to help you much except for maybe booking an earlier date for an interview, which you already have to have your medical cleared up before.

Does anyone have experience with expedite requests for K1’s? (Or any visa if there’s no difference!) My fiancée and I are going to make a request on grounds of financial hardship for the petitioner.

Do we just send an email to the email address quoted on the NVC website, along with relevant supporting documentation as attachments, quoting our NVC case number?

The case is currently held up at NVC like all K1’s, and we are filing at the London embassy. I know that our chances of success are slim given what we have read, but any tips/pointers would be great, thanks.

I didn’t read the all the replies but you can’t email anything to USCIS. Expedite request is only possible if visa is still processing and awaiting approval. You call USCIS and make an expedite request, if not denied they will provide you with fax number for additional documentation. If K-1 is already approved and waiting to be transferred to an embassy I’m not sure if you can do anything, we had to wait a full month and couldn’t expedite the process itself. I just secured my medical date super early, that helped a bit.

Just wanna ask if you guys were able to expedite your k1 visa? My fiance is in the navy, and he will get a new duty station soon, all expedite letters are done and ready to send, do you guys have any idea where to send it via email? california service center. thank you!

We successfully expedited my K1, there is no way to send any documentation via email. First you need to call USCIS asking for expedition and explaining your case. Then after getting your expedite request number is waiting.. After evaluation they might deny it or ask for additional documentation. They will provide fax number for it.

Did they ask you for a return ticket upon your return to the US? I have two separate tickets (one way tickets) flying to Asia for July and flying back to the US in Aug 2019. I wonder if it will be an issue....

I had my round trip itinerary with me but as I said before they didn’t want anything upon my return, neither departure from US. When you go outside US border US immigration doesn’t care. They ask questions when you return ;)

They only problem I encountered was on my return trip, trouble with online check in bcs airline wanted my green card or visa number. I have chosen visa and typed AP number, explained this in a bag drop point and they knew what I’m talking about. So not a big deal

Is it safe to travel with AP ? I still don’t feel good about go out of the U.S with my AP..

It is. I used it in December and I had no problems. Had basic documents like marriage certificate and AOS NOA1 with me but they didn’t even ask for any evidence at the airport (JFK). They just verified my passport and AP card in the systems which took them less than 10 minutes and we were good to go. Only negative thing is you have to go through non USA residents lines which took forever as always.

  7. If you use K-1 you will live with him sooner but you will be unemployed minimum 6 months till you get your work permit, also unable to leave US. Considering he has no income I wouldn’t recommend it. K-1 is a little bit faster than spousal visa and exept  waiting time is more troublesome (waiting for work permit/travel permit and another huge waiting time for green card).

  8. If you know the criteria you also know expediting is free. It won’t hurt to try, especially if you have proof of his health and financial situation. Petitioner calls, explain the reason for expediting and if they will consider your request seriously they should ask for additional documents. Usually they try to make a decision within 30 days. You will see an expedite request status on https://egov.uscis.gov under your K-1 number case history.

When you said "looking over paperwork with the couple together", are you saying, normally the couple won't get separated?  If that's what you meant, that is not necessarily true. My lawyer had told me in advance that almost all couples my lawyer had seen in his clients got separated in this USCIS. It is located in Louisville Kentucky.

When I got there, I saw 4-5 couples ahead of us, and they all got separated too! Always the US spouse got called in first, and then after 10-20 min, the international spouse got called in.

In general couples with more complicated situations seek lawyer help regarding AOS so I’m not surprised most of your lawyer clients got separated during interview.

But thanks for sharing your experience and GL! It will be alright :)

Hey, guys! today, finally, after 5 months my case status has changed to "My case is ready to be scheduled for an interview". What do you think how long it will take? If it is going to take another 5 months? LA office!

Hard to say I would check recent timelines for your local office to have a general idea how long to wait for an interview. I have my case ready to be scheduled for interview since June 18thand not expecting this to change till May/ June next year ;)
